Ask for bail in gold.
I'm 50-50 on the validity of the charge, but it's 100% amusing.
I'm in the UK this week and asked a table of (Brit) colleagues how one could be a socialist and stay in $3k suites and fly first. They looked at me like I was barmy (to be fair, they do that a lot) and said "He's a FRENCH socialist."_XC
Yes, given the large number of false rape charges, one has to be skeptical. Although, it seems DSK has a record of grabbing/harassing women.
"I'm 50-50 on the validity of the charge, but it's 100% amusing."IDK, this hotel was charging him $3,000 a night, so I'm thinking they are probably pretty careful about the people - including housekeepers - they employ.
Part of the trouble is that there shouldn't be a modern rape charge at all.Make it assault, which is what it is.
Carefully screened maids can be greedy too. Or have 2nd thoughts after "bad sex".
All the prosecutor had to say is "Roman Polanski."
Too bad Dominique Strauss-Kahn does not have a furlough week so he can focus on this matter.
Well, it makes sense. How could one be a bigger flight risk? That's a very good point and one I'm surprised one of we commentariate didn't think of in the other thread. Still, it does give "IMF head" a whole new meaning, eh, eh? Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink....
Carefully screened maids can be greedy too. Or have 2nd thoughts after "bad sex".Sure they can. I'm just saying I don't think this is a 50-50 situation here. They guy has a history and a sense of socialist entitlement ($3,00 a night?)that probably boggles the mind.
How can you trust a guy who calls himself Dominique?Wasn't Dominique the Singing Nun?Or somebody?
The Singing Nuns(1963) sing that Dominique should repent.
Oh la la! Sexual advances by wealthy Frenchmen in $3,000 a night hotel rooms? I'm in the wrong business!Titus, can I borrow your chambermaid outfit? Thanks!
They had better arrange for conjugal visits so that this lust maniac doesn't hurt any jailers. Or put him in a cell with Bernie Madoff and let them work in the prison printing press room.
"Wasn't Dominique the Singing Nun?"You think the nun was singing about herself?
I'm 50-50 on the validity of the charge, but it's 100% amusing.50-50? And I'm thinking Shouting Thomas is near to 0-100.And, oh, by the way, about 20% of Americans believe bin Laden is still alive, about 30% believe President Obama wasn't born in the United States, and something like 70% of Americans believe there was some sort of greater conspiracy regarding the assassination of President Kennedy.Sometimes I despair of people.
Three words:Crystal Gayle Mangum.
Sometimes I despair of people. If you truly want to despair of people, work in HR or manage a group of people just a couple rungs up from the bottom of the employable ladder. Every scam, every victim card, every excuse is played ad infinitum.
Three words:Crystal Gayle Mangum.Which I identified as a likely fraudster within 24 hours--many people did.Logic and evidence, though, played a part.
Logic and evidence, though, played a part. Are you suggesting that 88 faculty members at Duke were sans logic? (gasp)
Are you suggesting that 88 faculty members at Duke were sans logic? (gasp)Goodness, no. The followed the logic of groupthink and victimhood to the letter.
(The Crypto Jew)I share the “disbelief” in the story, not so much the skepticism. I simply cannot believe this happened, HOWEVER,:1) I cannot believe a sitting POTUS would have an affair with a womyn his daughters age, and have strange sex acts performed in the Oval Office…2) I cannot believe that a POTUS candidate would:a. have an extensive affair with an aide,b. and then father a child on this paramour,c. have his chief aide take the fall for him, d. and then use campaign money to hush it up,e. and face Federal charges for that…3) I cannot believe a US Senator had an affair and used money to pay off/hush up the affair, leading to his resignation or indictment (Ensign)…I cannot believe any of these things, but they DID HAPPEN, so whilst I cannot believe the head of the IMF behaved so stupidly, boorishly, and criminally I am forced to conclude that it is well within the realm of possibility.
I blame Pepe LePew. Everyone always thought it was so cute when he acted out like this.
Well, the NYPD worked fast! The plane didn't get to take off out of Kennedy. And, this DKS bum sat in a reserved first class seat! Must have tied to use his FRENCH CONNECTIONS. But he left his cell phone at the hotel.Even better, in France (so it's said in French), this bastard is called "the seducer."Man, do the french need lessons in comportment, or what? Was that song, "Dominique-ee, Dominique-ee" sung by nuns, a reference to "chimpanzee sex?"
Yep, the whole "no one that smart, could be that stupid" defense has been proven wrong again and again.
The coq has a history, including at least one incident where he assaulted a young journalist in much the same way described in the current case.Crystal Gayle Mangum had a history too; drug-abusing stripper/hooker with a record of making/retracting assault accusations.I'm giving the maid the benefit of the doubt until more is known about her history.
After the Polanski situation there's probably a whole lot of judges who will think more than twice about bail or other release for wealthy, well-connected European nationals charged with crimes of this nature.
Let's All Sing!
I really don't understand something.IF his attorneys have the evidence he was at lunch...R the NYC cops incompetents because they didn't investigate fast enuf? Y would he still be held?
Perhaps neither Dominique nor his daughter remembered their luncheon until his lawyers were able to recover their memories, as well as those of the staff at La Grenouille.I deeply regret that Johnnie Cochran isn't around to serve as Dominique's lawyer. That would be a hell of a trial.
DNA typically does not lie. One day Man-Bear-Pig will be captured.
Bernard Debre, a member of the centre right UMP and a representative for the city of Paris in the French National Assembly even said DSK had already abused various employees at the Sofitel New York. Debre presented no evidence to substantiate his claims.Unsubstantiated claim from someone who hates him, but I am wondering what liability the hotel has if the DSK attack and this claim are verified.
Good Job Dominique.. Get it UP
Let me make the case of bond. 1.) The lawyers talk was that the bond was going to be a million; triple it, back it up with his house in DC and cash or third party custody with a bunch of toney New Yorkers. Have the wife cosign it (she is part American). 2.) Put an ankle bracelet on him to monitor his movements. 3.) Put him on house arrest. He can not leave DC or NYC. 4.) He is not Roman Polanski who escaped after sentencing, 5.) This is a man who heretofore has held one of the highest positions in international finance.6.) The police have his passport and he will not leave the country to hide in France. 7.) This is bad crime which presumably will be tried and there appears to be the possibility of a defense. Keeping the man in jail for a year or more is wrong. 8.) I sense a modicum of crowd mentality, or Francophobia, and one would hope that it might be otherwise. Prediction: the denial of bond will be appealed and overturned.
(The Crypto Jew) 7.) This is bad crime which presumably will be tried and there appears to be the possibility of a defense. Keeping the man in jail for a year or more is wrong. Tell Bubba, Enrique, and Lemonghello that, I believe they are in the cell next to Strauss-Kahn at Rykers….of course they don’t have a hi-priced lawyer and deep pockets.
And the only thing I'm thinking about is what a tin cup and harmonica arrangement of thishttp://youtu.be/cKGnw4LkZFEmight sound like.
Les droits de cuissage (the rights to a underling's inner thighs) is the only right that the French uphold. I don't know if this was ever an actual manorial right but it seems to be what they think about the Polanski case, and no doubt this would also fall into that category.
Kirby, don't forget Frederic Mitterand (the current minister of culture).http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederic_Mitterand#Mitterrand.27s_autobiographical_novel_The_Bad_LifeFrance is in the midst of a huge pedophilia witch hunt among the lower levels of the bureaucracy. It's kind of ironic that their minister of culture survives and that the Premiere "Dame" defends the likes of Woody Allen or Roman Polanski.Am too tired to get into the French Appreciation of the Beauty of African Women (as have been seeing left and right in the French rags the past day or two).
Expatish asked "how one could be a socialist and stay in $3K suites…With the $3K suite you get first dibs at breakfast on the personal waffle maker.
I wouldn't grant bail to a rapist wanting to go to France, either, after they refuse to give us back that pervert Roman Polanski.
So...he's a socialist willing to have someone else (U.S. taxpayer) pay for his $3,000 per night hotel room, but the only tip for the maid is....HIS????Get your guns!!Start the revolution!!
It's kind of ironic that their minister of culture survives and that the Premiere "Dame" defends the likes of Woody Allen or Roman Polanski. While Woody Allen's relationships are perfect Jerry Springer material, he is neither a pedophile nor a rapist. Lumping him in with Polanski is unfair.
Fred4Pres said... All the prosecutor had to say is "Roman Polanski."That was my first (well, and only) reaction too.
