Remember, practice makes perfect.
Be careful taking off skis on hills. A friend of mine fell about two hundred feet down an evil pitch when he thought he could walk out of a tough spot. The bottom of those shoes are plastic, no?Anyway, congratulations on evident progress at a great sport. You are a good sport to press onwards.
It does, Allen, and I must say that Althouse has impressed me greatly even trying to do cross country. Me? I'd be the snow bunny in the other pretty white ski jacket waiting for them at the cafe down the road.
The path in the second photo is so inviting. Makes you want to smoke some ganja and then follow it wherever it leads...
Don't often comment about word verifications anymore. Nor will I on this one but to :OLOL ok, sorry...no other comment for now.
Does Wisconsin have groundhogs? If they came out today the shadows would be everywhere.
Lovely photos. Reminded me of a beautiful video I saw recently on Vimeo, "Sweden in midwinter".http://www.vimeo.com/8677818
Got rime? Just got off the phone with my mother- she says Madison got a lot of rime today.
Never thought I'd say this, but ....Althouse = Jock(And a very fashionably attired one, if previous skiing photos are any indication.)
Or should that be Joquette?
Very pretty. You're lucky you live someplace where the snow stays like that for more than 12 hours. Think back to your childhood and you know what I mean.El Pollo Real said... Got rime? "Better not, since it's your mom."Plus, it's hard to rhyme Nantucket with hoarfrost.
@Meade- But "hoarfrost" does rhyme with "salad tossed"!
OK, so duh, me. Exactly what kind of rime was your momma talking about, chicklit?
A Colloquy"Is there any quiet like the quiet of a winter day?""Ah shadup, you pompous ass!"
Penny wrote:Exactly what kind of rime was your momma talking about, chicklit? The hard kind Penny.
Indian Lake at middayDon't look now but there are a bunch of trees growing out of your lake.
Ricardo wrote:Althouse = JockWouldn't it be more accurate to say Althouse got jock? :)
So which kind of rime was it in Madison today-hard or soft?Inquiring minds want to know.
Neither, El Pollo. It was advection. And that almost rhymes with "seduction."
I know an old lady named CoakleyWho saw an open seat and thought "For me?"She was ice-cold with hoarfrostAnd shouldda had her cases tossedSo the Bay Staters said "Here's the job, Brownie"
I had to take my skis off and walk some of the hillier places, but I got to see how much fun I could have if I built up my skills.Good.. contrary to preposterous reports we are going to continue to have snowfall for a long long time to come.
That's one hoary dead plant Meade-what is it?
Queen You-Know-Who's Lace.
Ha! Meade made me look!
Does Wisconsin have groundhogs?Oh boy, yes and how.
In the north, it's such a pleasure to see that the sun is getting stronger and the days are getting longer. Starting today, sunset is after 5:00 p.m. in the Twin Cities. Sure, there's a lot more winter left, but sunshine makes it much more bearable.
You take a bus marked "Lakewood Drive"And you keep on ridin' till you're out of the cityWhere the air is fine with the sweet smell of pines and the country side's prettyAnd you'll see daffodils peepin' over the hills or a honey lovin' mama bearJust take a left at the bridge go down to Quakertown RidgeAnd in a minute you're there...At Indian Lake you'll be able to mate the way the Indians do.VW: porkmove -- no comment

My sister, who lives in Salt Lake, says it's positively ghastly in the valley once the sky closes in; you have to drive up into the mountains to see some glowing ball in the sky.
It was a treat to see the sun out in so much force here in Madison, today. And Althouse, it's also a treat to see you enjoying your jock side, so. Who knew?
Former Law Student beat me to it. Here's the whole lyric. Note, in the printed lyric you can "make" like Indians do, not "mate." But then, the Cowsills were always so naughty, they were probably trying to get one past the censors. Althouse needs to get an ice axe.Meanwhile, just how dumb is this Instapundit post? Rank it on a scale from 1 to 10. For reference points, ssume these guys are a four and the tea partiers are a two (being generous).
Lonewacko...Are you also against death for rodents? Accept that you are a Man and rise up and kill and eat the animals and keep their fur too. We wing nuts demand rational thought uncontrolled by kindergarten level panthiesm.
I don't you to go to Indian Lake Whore. Did you see the little chapel at the top of the hill?OK, boots on the ground here fellow republicans.Went out for tofu and sprouts for dindin at an out of the way very expensive cafe in Cambridge...it was fab.Next up, the movie An Education playing at an inclusive indie movie theater nestled in Kendall Square. Other movies playing there Some gay one with Colin Firth, Broken Embraces, Something about a White Ribbon, The Last Station and The Road. All fab and very indie. Thanks so much, make it a great night.
My dad's dogs humped Donna Shalala and her dyke girlfriend's dog at Indian Lake.
@Titus I blogged the chapel back here. I'd forgotten that it was at Indian Lake.
@John Stodder I played that song on LaLa at the breakfast table as we hatched the plan to go to Indian Lake.BTW, I always thought the Cowsills were singing "At Indian Lake we'll be able to mate the way the Indians do." And I thought it was racist.
"The White Ribbon" won a Golden Globe... foreign film. Sophia Loren gave out the award.
"An Education" was at Sundance for a while. We almost went.
So, do I want to take my teenage daughter to see An Education? I read the synopsis on wikipedia, but that doesn't help me predict the potential awkwardness.
Tomorrow. HUGE. Going to bed early to be able to pull an all-nighter with you peeps on Tuesday. Night ya'll!Cheers,Victoria
The girl in An Education is 16 going on 17 and involved with a much older man. Peter Saarsgard-or something like that. The actress playing the girl is absolutely lovely. It is set in 1961 and she is a younger version, but not as fab, as Audrey Hephurn. If I had a daughter I don't know if I would take her to see it.It is funny, smart, pretty and well worth seeing. One of the best movies I saw this year.
I just watched the trailer and I have a daughter. I wouldn't take her to see it only because it looks terrible, tedious, and boring.
I always thought the Cowsills were singing "At Indian Lake we'll be able to mate the way the Indians do." And I thought it was racist. On the Cowsills' website, I almost went into sugar shock but I found the lyric, and it's "make." I guess, as in "make like an Indian." War dances, peace pipes, wampum, what have you. It's still kind of racist if you think about it. Re: An Education, Meade said: I wouldn't take her to see it only because it looks terrible, tedious, and boring. It isn't any of those things. It's funny, surprising, poignant and not boring for a second. If your daughter is over 16, it's fine. Network TV shows have about the same amount of sex. This is more about a girl who is lured into a circle of wicked people because of her yearning to grow up and be sophisticated. Which, in London in 1961, meant speaking French, smoking, and listening to Mel Torme. There are a couple of interesting twists, and some thrillingly funny acting by the reliable as ever Alfred Molina and Emma Thompson. The woman who plays the girl is exceptional. See it if for no other reason than to catch a rising star. She could be huge. Of course, her name escapes me right now. But two years from now we'll all know her name.
John Stodder, thanks. That's kinda what I needed to hear. Sounds like it will be a good movie for us -- if we catch it in the theater. I'm looking for something to cut the Twilight treacle.
In following the link back to the 2005 post on the chapel at Indian Lake, I was surprised.I saw two different visions revealed. One by the builder, in the creation of this unusual chapel The other by the sole commenter, who 5 years after the post is now the "lucky guy" he envisioned.Vision is a strange phenomena. It's the ability to see, but also the the ability to see beyond current reality, using imagination, or what biblical writers refer to as, "the eyes of the heart".
