So this is Russert's last interview? Who is the last person he names?

It is Joe Biden:
Msnbc: Who do you have coming up on Meet the Press?

Russert: We’re going to talk big issues with a debate: Obama vs. McCain. Joe Biden will represent Barack Obama; Lindsey Graham will represent John McCain.

Msnbc: Do you think Lindsey Graham might be on the ticket with John McCain?

Russert: I think he’s on the list. South Carolina is a solid state, but McCain really likes his passion and his ability to be on the attack against the Democrats on these foreign policy issues. I think Biden is someone who’s very much on Obama’s list because of his wealth of foreign policy experience, his knowledge of the Iran and the Iraq. It’ll be interesting. They’re both coming into the studio. It could be an vice presidential audition. A Meet the Press audition, coming your way Sunday, on Meet the Press!
Meet the Press! But it was not to be Meet the Press for him. It was to be: Meet your Maker. Ah, Tim Russert. I'm going to miss that guy so much. I almost want Barack Obama to pick Joe Biden... and John McCain to pick Lindsey Graham... as a tribute to our great journalist Tim.

Imus had Russert on on June 5, but claimed it was cheesy to play the last-interview-you-had-with and he would never do it, when a similar situation came up with somebody.

I suspect a gender divide, akin to remembering anniversaries. Secret significance lurks everywhere, catching the unwary male all the time.

Tim Russert was the Gypo Nolan of the 21st century.

I think that snippet sums up Russert very well. He was the king of Beltway conventionalism, half-right about half the time.

In the particulars of this scenario, Biden does sound like a good pick for Obama. Probably, though, Althouse, you've never had to listen to him wax in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. If you had, you'd know never to pick him. He's in love with his own voice and fancies himself quite knowledgeable. It wouldn't be long until he steps in it spectacularly.

As for Graham: No. Way. He doesn't help carry a state (that won't be carried, anyway). He doesn't particularly help draw conservatives or centrists. He doesn't add economic heft.

Anyway, RIP.

I'm genuinely sorry for your loss and sadness. Would titling one of your soulful garden photos for him make a fitting tribute? "Beautiful decline?" Or would that be silly?

I'd been away from the media all day so I was like, "Tim Russert's retiring?" That seemed so strange since I could just see his hedgehog nose and warm gimlet eyes peering into the camera with curiosity and eagerness for next week's confrontation. What a pity!!

Let's note the context:

This interview was essentially an advertisement on MSNBC for a sister program, and Russert was hyping his show with malarkey.

You have to be good to make anyone think Sen. Biden would be worth getting up to see on a Sunday morning.

I hope Obama names Teller as his VP as a tribute to Marcel Marceau. After all the yakking and nagging he has to face with Michele every night, he is certainly due a little peace and quiet.

Tim Russert will be missed. Rest in Peace!

I hope McCain names a lumberjack as his VP as a tribute to Ken Kesey. After all the plasticity and fakeness he has to face with Cindy every night, he is certainly due something wooden and real.

Trooper York said...

The guy is 92 for crying out loud. He hasn't had wood for years. Viagra doesn't work for everybody. Why do think he's so angry all the time?

AJ Lynch said...

Trooper:

You are probably right - it's Cindy that wants the wood.

Trooper York said...

Well Johnnie wood if he could but he can't so he won't.

That's why he has that grey hair.

That's whats scaring the Iranians. They hear he has a hardon for them.
He must be pretty emotional. That can't be good ya know what I mean.

I didn't hear about it till later this evening. So sad - I did shed a tear. His relative youth evokes for me and many others, I would guess, people whom they loved and lost too soon.

Here's Russert's last interview --

Fox is talking to Gerry Seib, of the Wall Street Journal, who was one of the last people to see Mr. Russert. He’s saying that he and John Harwood, of CNBC and The New York Times, were being interviewed by Mr. Russert about their new book. Mr. Seib said he noticed that Mr. Russert seemed a little tired, but added that he and Mr. Harwood left the interview saying to each other that Mr. Russert’s was “one of the best” they had done.

So that'll be the great unreleased "Meet the Press" episode -- airing it would probably be ghoulish.

I hope Mccain names a pharmacist to his VP to keep his drug addicted wife calm.

One wife inherited a brewery. The other one born into low to middle class in the south side of Chicago who actually got herself out of there.

Going off on Michelle will likely backfire but if that is all you got go for it. I am sure it makes you feel better about yourself in some way. Kind of like when I get a really hot hog.

Trooper York said...

You know my original joke was more about teasing Althouse about her overemotional post, but you guys are real sensititive about Michele ain't ya. A sore spot so to speak.

titusbedtime said...

I actually don't have a really strong view of Michelle Obama one way or the other Trooper.

To be honest I am pretty indifferent. But I do think all of the recent crap from National Review and Weekly Standard and the rumor that she said a speech about whitey that no one can locate is not cool.

If it is then I guess we can rehash the fact the Cindy Mccain is a drug addict. Or is that off limits?

Now if you please, I have an outfit to pick out for Boston Pride tomorrow.

Brunch at 10:00
Parade at 12:00
Block Party 3-7
Corporate Apartment for nappy-7-10
Boat cruise in the Boston Harber-12-4
DJ-Junior Vasquez
Attendance: 500,000

The third largest pride festival in the US for those of you interested. Behind NYC and San Francisco. Even larger than LA's and Chicago's.

The largest in North America is Toronto for those of you that are curious.

Trooper York said...

Hey bust on Cindy all you want man. That's why we have free speech. This ain't Canada.

And if you get a chance to put Manny Rameriez on the disabled list, just pull on his dreads exta hark ok.

titusbedtime said...

Oh Trooper thank you for bringing up Manny Ramirez-love him and would love to pull on his dreads.

Unfortunately, they are in Cincinnatti-or however you spell it.

Also, it is a good thing because the Fenway Victory Gardens (which is the largest cruisy area in the world) is right next to Fenway and tomorrow the Gardens will be on fire.

See how I tied cruising and Gardens into this posting nicely. Some of the gardens actually look like the picture Althouse has up. Unfortunately, the morning after a weekend night the place looks like Edward Scissorhands was there (with all of the mos tramping around).

titusbedtime said...

Also, after you get blown and are hungry (which is usually the case) the Victory Gardens has a large selection of fresh produce that you can rip off right from someone's garden.

One late night, early morning I was swinging in someone's gardens love seat with my trick and we had fresh tomatoes and basil. It was very romantic for 5 minutes-at the most.

Also, this is a good way to save on the cost of groceries at the corner store.

Although, there is a lady, at the Fenway VICTORY Gardens who comes out every night and sits in her garden with a bullhorn and yells, "Stop Sucking Cock", "Put Your Cocks Away and Go Home". She also has a flashlight and runs around to inspect if the gays are having safe sex.

I love her. She is just looking out for my peeps.

WTF! She's meddling in people's love lives -- and notice only the gay fairy nancies, not with the Ellens.

Stop sucking cock indeed. Put a sock in it, lady!

reader_iam said...

Oh, whatever. No wonder the Tituses and Troopers of the world get on their high horses and gallop away. They know they're going to win, and that most others other will concede, in on way or another (for example, I in mine, and Victoria in another).

reader_iam said...

My comment just previous was not a rewrite of either or both the two deleted. The two deleted were separate, different comments.

reader_iam said...

And I deleted them not because of their point, but to make a different one, which I expect to be dismissed, but that's OK. (So it goes.) At least I bothered to try and make the points (in terms of what was in the deleted comments, and also in deleting them).

I quit watching the Sunday news(?) shows a long time ago. I think that Russert lied under oath during the Libby trial.

rhhardin said...

Doberman uninfluenced by the news of Russert's death, wants kong thrown.

Sincerity is why people like dogs.

On the internet nobody knows you're a dog, is far from true. People suspect it.

And until we quit beatifying these "journalists" with an agenda, we'll continue getting what we deserve...
Politicians who know they can manipulate how news is presented.

It's not a matter of winning or losing sweetie. This is a exhibition not a competition.

(That's the Barack Obama approved form of address now so don't get your back up. A huff is a terrible thing to waste).

blake said...

Troop-- Gypo Nolan? Who did Russert rat out?

Trooper York said...

His whole class man, white ethnic guys. Typical that you are the only one who got it.

blake said...

White ethnic guys?

Wait, you can be white AND ethnic?

I got the Gypo Nolan reference, yeah, but I must confess: I didn't really know who Tim Russert was. (Unlike RH, I do watch TV, but no talking heads except "Red Eye", and that hardly counts.)
