I thought it was the French who were obsessed with Egyptians and the Germans were into Cowboys and Indians and the T.V. show "Dallas."
These Europeans should stick to their stereotypes; otherwise Americans who don't want to put a lot of effort into figuring out what they're up to might get confused. I know I am.
ann, you must have been running out of stuff to post, as this has been around for ages! ps: leute, wenn ihr's denn schon mit dem deutschen probieren müsst, dann doch bitte sehr richtig...
What is it about the seemingly harmless animated crocodile that drove Derve over the edge? Does Schnappi's little song have some secret power that affects susceptible minds?
What is it about the seemingly harmless animated crocodile that drove Derve completely over the edge? Does Schnappi's happy little song conceal some secret power to inflame susceptible minds?

Oh no, Schnappi's little ditty is one of those tunes that is totally maddening because you can't get it out of your head.
Chez Althouse, we laugh every time the chorus comes up.
Wenn ich das Wort Krokodil höre, erreiche ich bereits für mein Luger.
Althouse ist wie ein Kasten Schokoladen...
'Raus mit dir, Schnappi,Schnappi, Schnappi, Schnappi ... ACH!!!! Schnappi ist kein Krokodil. Schnappi ist ein Ohrworm!

Tim: It was just up on Metafilter yesterday, and I'd never seen it before. My standard here was that it made us laugh a lot.
Had to go hunt out a translation and also found that "schnappen" is slang-word, means actually to bite but without hurting.:
I am Schnappi, the little crocodile,
I live in Egypt, right next to the Nile,
first I lived in an egg,
but then shnapped my way free
chorus
Schni-schna-schnappi schnappi-schnappi-schnapp
.....
I am Schnappi the little crocodile
have sharp teeth and mighty many of them
I shnap what's there to shnap
I shnap and am good at it
chorus
I am Schnappi the little crocodile
I love to shnap, that's my favourite play
I sneak up to mum
and show her how well I shnap
chorus
I am Schnappi the little crocodile
I'm never tired of shnapping
I shnap daddy's leg
and then just fall asleep
chorus

Ann, you must be doing something right. It only took ten comments before a troll crawled out from under the network bridge!

Ha, that was great! I remember when the song came out a few years ago, but I'd never seen the video before.
Schnappi aß nicht die Fliege. Es muß eine amerikanische Fliege gewesen sein.
I don't think crocodiles eat flies...
[My German is a little rough, did Theo just say the samt thing?]
