I'm just an old fuddy duddy, but I think "holidays" like Halloween, New Year's Eve, etc. were more fun when they were less organized. Its like what happens to kid's sports when adults get involved. Takes all the fun out.You know if you spend a few hundred bucks to attend a New Year's Eve party at some fancy hotel with a bunch of strangers, that's supposed to be a great time. Fourth of July was a blast when we all got our own fireworks and gathered in some open field , shot bottle rockets at eachother and shot cans up in the air with firecrackers. Now you have to attend the city sponsered display, dutifully parking a mile away and trudging in with your folding chairs to take your place.
"less organized"Well, we've had riots, with store windows broken, and $600,000 in expenses paid by the city...
Well I'm not advocating using these things as an excuse for stupidity. Chaos and rioting aren't my definition of fun. I believe its possible for people to act responsibly without being given guidance from the city (or whomever). That's just my experience, plenty of good times without any "adult supervision" and no one and nothing getting hurt. I understand the modern reality doesn't work like that. Our team won, so lets tear up the town.
I think it's a week from Saturday. Don't hurry the calendar into November just yet.
Man, what memories. . . .one year I just put a paper bag over my head and went as a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. I still have a t-shirt from Halloween 1978, I think. Maybe '79. My brother got it for me. I never wear it. I could probably sell it on eBay for big bucks. And yes, I still have a "F*** 'Em, Bucky" t-shirt, too.
My first and only Madison Halloween I went as one of Robert Palmer's back-up singers and my boyfriend at the time went as Phil Collins whom he greatly resembled. He looked so much like Phil that people were stopping and pointing in the street. There were rumours that year (85 I think) that MTV was going to be there filming. "Phil Collins" being in Madison just help fuel them.Interesting word verification today: ezswf. Sounds like it should be part of a personal ad...
