"Jamaal Bowman was a Democratic Trump. Now he’s gone. It’s an encouraging sign that there is a critical mass on the left who can say: Stop."

That's the headline at WaPo... for a column by Dana Milbank.

This is the story of two New York demagogues. Both men have a history of bigotry, bullying, law breaking, promoting bogus conspiracy theories, engaging in obscene public rants and playing the martyr.

One, embraced by the Republican Party, became president and may well become president again. The other, kept at arm’s length by the Democratic Party, was dumped by Democratic voters in a congressional primary Tuesday night.

Obscene? Milbank notes that Trump has been saying "bullshit," "shitty," "scum," and "son of a bitch," whereas Bowman just had a rally where he said "We are going to show fucking AIPAC the power of the motherfucking South Bronx! … We’re going to show them who the fuck we are!"

ADDED: I would think the biggest problem with "We are going to show fucking AIPAC the power of the motherfucking South Bronx" is that Bowman's district is the north Bronx (along with the southern half of Westchester County).

Didn’t Biden use the term “son of a bitch” when describing his billion dollar shakedown of the Ukrainians over Burisma?

These columnists truly need to start seeing therapists. They are so filled with TDS that all thoughts they have in their liberal heads are wrapped around Trump. He is in their heads 24 hours a day. One would hate to live life that way. Trump is a politician and a showman. I believe he did a great job as president before COVID and better than any D would have done after COVID. Trump will get my vote in November, but this obsession with him by WP is truly scary.

Tie the NYT article to this one. Biden really can't afford the rainbow coalition staying home, but "elite" reporters can't help barking. This is their party, now the dirt people better get back into line!

I don't think it's going to work out nearly as well as they hope.

Perspective taking. Children must learn empathy and to "walk in another person's shoes."

Between age 4 and 8, normal/average children learn that they are not the center of the universe. Sadly, many politicians and partisans never learn empathy or to see their own flaws. They are often charming psychopathic predators and hypocrites.

How many jobs did "democratic Trump" create? How many buildings did he build?

Why oh why do we never hear of Trump pulling a fire alarm like Bowaman?

But AOC won her primary with 82% of the vote.

The question is whether WaPo will survive to cover the November election?

Not scary, contemptible.

If today's journalists weren't near the snake shit bottom of the public trust, then it would be scary. However, Americans are generally much smarter and better balanced than the average j-school grad, hence the monumental level of distrust and contempt even the most left-leaning pollsters cannot disguise.

How did Bowman get to Congress in the first place? Where was this critical mass of moderate Democrats in 2020 and 2022 when he was selected in a primary, elected, and then re-elected? Did he change his views or policies in anyway?

Maybe bat-shit-crazy TDS isn't selling in the Democrat Party anymore.

Milbank is as obtuse a 'columnist' as I've read or listened to over the years. On a team of bungling, brain-numbing, party loyalists who populate the staff at WaPo, he is among the least impressive thinkers. I don't care that he went to Yale. He's just not very bright. This is not a very bright comparison. What it is, is leftover, very tedious and boring TDS.

He needs to get out more. Leave the northeast corridor and breathe in the fresh air of independent thought. It is so utterly tedious at this point to keep reading issues with other people that they have to try to compare to Trump.

The story is Bowman should have never been near the Capitol in the first place. But, between his shouting matches with other Congresspeople to get on camera, his pulling the fire alarm to try to cut off a vote, his loud and boisterous antisemitism, he was finally thrown out. EVEN NEW YORKERS COULD NOT STAND HIM ANY LONGER, except for AOC, of course- that arbiter of good taste.

This has nothing to do with Trump and everything to do with the sick and awful people that now populate the Democratic Party. As a columnist in Washington DC, you would think even a Dana Milbank could notice it.

Bowman lost because he wore shorts at that last rally.

It takes a certain type of talent to produce and host a top-rated show for a decade or more on network television. Few can do it. Few have the success Trump had achieved long before running for office. None of his peers in business or entertainment achieved the level of cultural icon Trump was: mentioned in scores of rap and hip hop songs, cameos in movies, and more.

Yet when the day comes that his mortal journey ends we all know the NYT headline will say “Conspiracy Theorist and Failed President Dies.”

LOL He was kept at arms length, except the Dem Leader tried to save his butt last minute and no one said anything bad about him until he offended Jewish people.

Now imagine the column Milbank would have written about Bowman if Bowman had won last night. I guarantee you Milbank would have been singing the praises of Bowman this morning in that hypothetical outcome.

Bowman's district isn't as favorable to him as AOC's is to her- it includes too many white Democrats from Westchester County. It is solidly blue but not yet completely off the deep end crazy.

Did Milbank raise any of these points about Bowman prior to his losing the primary? Was truth spoken to power, or does Milbank only kick 'em when they're down?

Trump aside, what does the actual Bowman rant say about the actual American left?

Bowman, a perfect representative of where the New Soviet Democratical Party happens to be, simply went over the cliff a bit too fast for the democratical's masters that be, so he had to go.

It's the mensheviks and the bolsheviks and a few individual operators all over again on Team Dem.

Ah...no. this is a flex by New York's Jewish community to get rid of one of their most despised shoe stones. As when ex SF DA Chesa Boudin was recalled, this wasn't SF "coming to it senses", but a flex by the ethic asian voters against Boudin for allowing hate crimes against them to go unpunished. New York's 16th congressional district might as well be part of Israel for all the influence a certain ethnicity has there and they weren't too happy when Bowman deposed incumbent Elliott Engle 2 years ago to begin with. And now this. Whoever replaces Bowman will be just as much of a s*** head but hopefully less offensive to the Jews and that's about it. All politics is local.

I blame the parents. It's all very well and good to host the We Believe and BLM lawn signs, but when your kid comes home from school or college beaten up and threatened, and the ass sucking Principal Skinners laugh in your face, Jewish parents aren't going to listen so much to good old auntie hippie.

Let's hope the Bowman voters stay home in November. Some people think NY is in play at the top of the ticket.

I don't, but you can never tell. This is not shaping up as a normal election. More and more speculation that Biden is going to be replaced. Which is going to cause all kinds of problems since he's already on some state ballots and their deadline has passed. Not all courts are as obliging as NJ courts.

Maybe, just maybe, the electors in the electoral college will actually have to make a choice this year.

"Jamaal Bowman was a Democratic Trump. Now he’s gone. It’s an encouraging sign that there is a critical mass on the left who can say: Stop."

There is only one reason Bowman lost.

Bowman is a vile human being.

But nobody should be happy that the lobbying group for a foreign power is the only way a member of congress can actually lose re-election.

There should be at least 500 new congresspeople and 95 new senators in 2024.

But we will be lucky to break 100 in both houses and most of those are traitor Republicans "retiring" to throw the house to democrats.

He was a darling. Then he lost. Now he's the left's Donald Trump.

There's a lesson in there.

Kept at arm's length by the party? I saw AOC leaping into his arms at that rally?

My progressive friends--when pressed about the likes of Jamaal--will concede that he was the Democrats Marjorie Taylor Greene. I don't thinkk the comparison was apt, but there you have it.

In what was supposedly the most expensive House of Representatives primary campaign in history, Bowman lost. A lot of Demnocrats paid good money to keep him in Congress; a lot of Democrats paid good money to get him out of Congress. Headline should read "Bowman Flushed".

The left had no interest in Bowman losing, but they're trying to salvage something from it by essentially saying, "Look, we retired our embarrassment, now it's your turn Republicans."

First of all, Bowman replaced Engel in 2020.

Latimer is a standard-issue NY liberal. Since I moved to Westchester, he has been in the County Legislature, then a State Senator, then the County Executive (defeating a relatively popular incumbent Republican despite being outspent 3-1).

I don't agree with him on, well, much of anything, but he's never been a "look-at-me" guy. He avoids the media and the limelight and grinds along, getting stuff done. In that sense, from my point of view, he worse (i.e, more effective) than Bowman, because he advances the "progressive" ball down the field without any fanfare. I want a-holes like Bowman out there as a representative Democrat, not quietly efficient policy wonks.

A canvasser came to my door yesterday morning, to "make sure" that I had gotten out to vote Latimer. I replied "I'm not a Democrat." She then said "actually, neither am I, but Bowman's got to go" and went on her way down the block.

mikee said...

Bowman was nothing compared with Jackson-Lee of Houston. Or Ilhan Omar. Or Feinstein, or Pelosi, for that matter. Or Hillary. To suggest that the Dems have cleansed or can cleanse their ranks of their most public horrors because this minor player lost his primary is akin to saying that Jason or Freddie will never return because of the way their last movies ended.

That's precisely the purpose of this column. And the only purpose. To which I would respond, "Fine. You caught up to our Santos. Keep going and let's talk."

Oh sure, Now you say that. Why didn't you say it before?

Because beyond ideology Millbank is a fanatical partisan for the Democrat Party. If a Republican was against Bowman, Milbank would vote for his "Trump".

And while being partisan is not unusual it's pathetic of Milbank to pretend he's not and play the both-sides-now game.

Now he’s gone. It’s an encouraging sign that there is a critical mass on the left who can say: Stop."
Great. In case Milbank hasn't noticed there are several other members of The Squad who are equally awful. Any similar comment on them? No?

Of course not. Die MSM, Die, and take Dana Milbank with you.
