RFK Jr. would give women full control over the decision to have an abortion — "even if it's full term."

I think his feet were supposed to be off camera. I don't like seeing his stocking feet in this context. It's too serious, too deadly.

How can RFK Jr. be so concerned about the vaccine cocktail given to infants and young children, which is probably connected to the autism spike, but still be all for full term abortion which in basically infanticide.

Published pro-choice statistics show the main reasons for these late term abortions ARE NOT for the health of the mother, or that the infant is unviable.

This is a total copout on his part. A woman can choose to terminate a pregnancy up to 16 weeks. That's reasonable. A woman does not have the moral right to abort and viable infant in the final trimester, nor throw and infant off a cliff like the ancient Greeks.

What a disappointment. And yeah, hanging out in stocking feet, while casually approving of infanticide is a bit disturbing.

America will continue to decline until it gives up on the stupid fantasy that women are infallible. Nobody is infallible.

"It's up to the woman" is a Pontius Pilate hand washing cop out on full term abortion. "I didn't decide to kill the viable infant...SHE DID". It provides plausible deniability. Like voting for RJK Jr. in he general election.

"I didn't say I was pro-infanticide, I just said a woman should be allowed to choose if she wants to commit it."

Pilate: "I didn't choose to release Barabbas, the Jews did."

I'm glad he did this. More shaving off Biden votes, and more distance from Trump/MAGA.

By bowing to the infallibility of liberal women, RFK Jr. just presented himself as a total...PUSSY.

Why? Nine months is "too deadly" but three is not so deadly?

Abortion anytime for any reason is what the prog argument demands. Women's autonomy rules, babies be damned.

Next question: why stop at birth? Let's ask Peter Singer.

What if a woman thinks she wants to be a mother until the child is 4 or so? Then realizes her body is being controlled by an always needy other person who demands time and resources? Why should she be required to submit?

What if she really wants to go on a vacation to Detroit and Puerto Rico?

Why should politicians have control over a woman's body even after birth? That sounds like a kind of enforced slavery when it's not in keeping with a woman's adapting sense of self and goals.

Inga said...

Even up to full term? This just goes to show that this man is not presidential material. Does he think he will get Democrats votes if he says such a thing? If so he displays extremely poor judgment.

“Even if full term” is extreme…. Babies are born prematurely all the time and survive just fine. Why not arrange for that, along with adoption? Full term abortion in this day and age truly is heinous, imho. It seems to be more about power than healthcare. No middle ground allowed. Sorry to hear this from him.

“That is a brutally extreme position”

Of course he supports 9 month abortions. That stance essentially limits the damage he can do to Trump. 9 month abortions, are essentially indistinguishable from infanticide for much of the population. We are talking minutes of surgery in an emergency C Section between that to-be-aborted fetus and normal babyhood. At or nearing 9 months, they aren’t even considered premies. It’s an extreme position, but probably shared with FJB. Why do so many good Roman Catholics, like Biden, Pelosi, Kennedy, support infanticide?

Gusty Winds said...

"Most doctors schedule an ultrasound at around 18 to 21 weeks, but the sex may be determined by ultrasound as early as 14 weeks."

Hey liberal women. If you don't like the sex of the fetus is it moral to abort after week 14, 18, or, 21 for that reason alone? I'm sure it's done, but not often admitted.

Or, is your group like the Corleone Family, defining your own morality as you go? You know, like Michael attending a baptism, while having his enemies killed under the moral guise of "it's just business."

Are men not allowed to ask the morality of 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions? Michael Corleone didn't let his wife as about his business either.

I still think there is a possibility that they replace Biden with RFK and this would still fit in that paradigm.

Michelle Dulak Thomson said...

Paddy O, you ought to read Philip Dick's short story, "The Pre-Persons." In this world, abortion is available up to age 12, or the development of higher math skills. Parents can call for their kids to be picked up by the "abortion truck" at any time before that age, whereupon they're housed in cages for a month and (if not "adopted") then snuffed.

hawkeyedjb said...

"Why does any Presidential candidate talk about abortion?" Because it is a winning issue among young women, maybe THE ONLY issue for a lot of them.

Given a choice of 16 weeks, or unlimited abortion, or no abortion, most Americans would (I believe) choose 16 weeks. Republicans and Democrats seem determined to offer the extremes.

I may get my good citizen badge revoked for this, but I think abortion is the hill that Althouse would die on. I think this is the one issue that dominates her decision to not support Republican candidates. It does seem that of all the issues she brings up about law-fare, violations of due process, free speech, and the many other abuses promulgated by the Democrat party that she cannot muster enough outrage to vote in the very thumb-in-the-eye candidate that needs to be voted on and by extension the party that needs to be elected to demonstrate to the Democrat party that their attempts at using politics, media, courts, and the other institutions to denigrate and punish about half the country needs to be curtailed. But instead she prefers to vote for a very hard-line lefty.

Althouse holds much of her voting activity close to the vest, so I am a little surprised the let the cat out this soon. In the past I felt that her main reasons were for civility, but seems no longer the over-arching motivation since a strong Democratic party, unhindered because of a lack of solid rebuke by the public, would continue to push an un-civil agenda.

Now, I don't think she holds the Kennedy position on abortion, but that is far more palatable than a ban than a restriction of anything less than 15 weeks (though her target might be higher, not sure on that point.)

Thus a protest vote for Kennedy is much more logical than a protest vote for Trump.

it's Important to remember, that democrats think that people are Property.
Since a baby is Property; the owner (the mom), can do ANYTHING she wants with that Property.
This is EXACTLY the same reasoning that democrats used in 1860..

Serious Question: wouldn't (shouldn't? (couldn't?)) the 13th amendment apply to this issue?
If Not... WHY NOT??

WHY is it "okay" for a Property Owner to terminate another human being?
in Iowa, you can't evict someone in the winter, because they might freeze to death
in Iowa, you can't even cut off utilities in the winter, because it's TOO COLD
BUT; in Iowa, you can evict a person from your womb.. Just because you want to.
Where is the 13th Amendment now? I guess laws don't apply to women

The way you have a "full term" abortion or any late term abortion is basically that you give birth but the abortionist kills the baby in some way just before you begin labor. Some times it's a saline injection which sort of shrivels up the baby like someone dying of thirst or sometimes it's a nail in the baby's head as it descends the birth canal. And sometimes the babies survive it all. Then it's illegal to kill them but if the abortionist puts the baby aside on a cold metal table and doesn't clear its nasal passages then the mom can pretty much count on her baby suffocating and giving no further trouble.
This is a pretty brutal way to behave and it goes on because people turn their heads and refuse to know or to think about what they know. A Presidential candidate can advocate for this because people refuse to acknowledge what he is saying he wants to allow.
The unborn child is a human person from the moment of conception but a majority does not understand this. We prolifers have a job of persuasion to do to stop all abortions. However, right now a majority understands that late term abortions are wrong though they would like to think about something else. By appealing to this majority to institute a ban on abortions after 15 weeks, we could stop the most brutal part of the abortion industry. I think this is worth doing and I was happy to see a Presidential candidate is advocating for such a ban.

He continues the political game of riling abortion opponents and demanding abortion supporter's votes, rather than proposing anything that both sides will understand as a good-faith proposal, rather than saying anything that one side won't dismiss as not just wrong but horribly evil. This isn't just political opportunism, it is political fantasy revenge porn.

Texas will go blue this election or next due to Republican legislators pandering to the local evangelical nutcases and limiting legal abortion to 6 weeks from conception, with onerous civil penalties for even helping someone else abridge that limit. Texas will be blue sooner rather than later over this one issue, after only 30 years of Republicans in charge, just as Texas turned red over concealed carry in the 1990s after 50+ years of Democrats running the show.

So I guess while pushing for states to loosen up suddenly tight abortion laws, this jackdoodle has decided why not go a mile past any sensible limit, proposing abortion on demand up to birth. He deserves to get fewer votes than Jeb Bush or Kamala Harris in the primaries for this idiocy alone.

Just fine, if you want to achieve absolutely nothing.

"I think his feet were supposed to be off camera. I don't like seeing his stocking feet in this context. It's too serious, too deadly."

Once society accepts deadly brutality, we can hardly complain that people become inured to it and treat it casually. Do we think that Nazi and communist officials in Germany, the Soviet Union, and China always put on their full dress uniforms when signing off on the death of millions?

Does formal attire demonstrate moral seriousness? Are we suppose to believe that officials or politicians in formal attire are showing us that they struggled with their decisions? If so, then does casual attire indicate that the whole matter is no big deal to them and that they believe that the women making the decision about aborting a full-term baby should not worry their pretty little heads over what is really just a casual decision of no consequence?

Unfortunately, I think our society has reached the point where our ruling class is untroubled by even late-term abortion and find no need to dress up their support for it in the trappings of moral seriousness, however ragged those trappings are.

All this stuff with his brain shows up with his vocal distress. He has spasmodic dysphonia a rare neurological condition, in which an abnormality in the brain’s neural network results in involuntary spasms of the muscles that open or close the vocal cords. Damn that worm!

Then there is his permanent AFib condition which can bring on a stroke in a New York Minute. He has been hospitalized several times because of his heart problem, so this is serious. Hopefully, he is taking Eliquis but his strenuous exercise program cannot be helpful with his killer heart condition.

Althouse,

Shows he's honest. It was impolitic to take that position.

Impolitic? How so? That's the position of not just outliers like Kermit Gosnell, but of whole state governments. Former Virginia Governor Ralph Northam spoke about this some years back, saying that in the case of a woman going into labor where the infant was unwanted, the infant would be "made comfortable," and could be resuscitated if the parents wanted it to be.

Now we all know by this point that "comfort care" means, in practice, that the infant is shoved into a supply closet until it can be safely assumed dead. This is just not how you treat someone who is an obvious "person" and a US citizen. Every opportunity must be given the child to live, and at this point the parents' wishes don't come into it at all. It was out of their hands the instant the baby was out of the mother's body. Of course, there may be associated medical expenses. But them's the breaks, yes?

FWIW, I remember seeing, ca. 30 years ago, a report that an abortion provider had attempted to abort a late-second-trimester infant; he succeeded in tearing off one of the kid's arms, but the baby was then born alive. Obviously, the soi-disant mother was suing. Whether it was for the maiming of the child or for its being alive at all was, for the moment, unclear.

There is a fundamental problem with full term abortion, and that is the love of Democrats for their neverending culture wars -- not to mention the support they get from otherwise sensible people like Ann Althouse.

What we saw in Virginia when Democrat Ralph Northam was governor was a proposal to extend full term abortion rights to post partum "abortion" for babies born alive. With Democrats in control the proposal didn't fail by much.

Why stop at full term? Why not one month after birth? Why not up to a year after birth? The Democrat's motto.: "Kill the children. And Jews, too!"

"RFK Jr. is a Democrat plant. A radical left liberal who's been put in place in order to help Crooked Joe Biden, the worst president in the history of the United States, get re-elected. A lot of people think junior is a conservative. He's not. By the way, he said the other night that vaccines are fine. For those of you who want to vote because you think he's an anti-vaxxer, he's not really an anti-vaxxer. That's only his political moment. So, RFK's views on vaccines are fake, as is everything else about his candidacy.”

Some statements from Trump on a video he posted on Truth Social

Just heard a clip of one of Biden's incompetent economic bureaucratics.
Astonishing & frighting economic cluelessness.

I'd rather have and "anti-vaxxer!" than a complete liar like Joe biden.

Are we voting for Forced VACCINE Nazis now? Not only is Biden a crook and a liar in every direction - he and his thugs would like to force people to take unproven jabs. Loyalists are cool with it.

What happened to pretending they're changing children's sexes with surgery? Are they over that now?

"you ought to read Philip Dick's short story..."

I really do and will. The suggestion is timely as I'm really in this season of trying to find authors I've missed somehow over the years and I've not read his works.

Amazon has wonderful whole collections of older authors for very cheap. I just got Rafael Sabatini's collection (I read a few of his books 20 years ago...) and I see they have a collection of 34 PKD stories for 99 cents. The Pre-Persons isn't part of that one, but I'll hunt it down.

How to make every other statement you've ever made, every speech, every book, every social media post or ad, meaningless. All you need to do is show that you actually have so little regard for life, for the life of a baby, that you are fine with murdering babies out of convenience. That this is your version of standing for women's rights.

There are many things RFK Jr has previously said that I could agree with. Many things he has said that I completely disagree with. But they are all second tier honorable mentions next to this massive hubristic mistake.

Killing a fully developed baby is about as low a standard of character as one could display. Nothing much more to say about RFK Jr. after this. And...I'm fine with that. I count Kennedys as they leave our stage. Yet there are always more following right behind them.

@Inga: Sounds like Trump is worried

Pfft. He’s thrilled. The more radical RFK is, the better, from his point of view. Do you really expect him to say nice things about the man, driving wavering Republicans towards him and Democrats away from him?

Like all leftists, Inga, you take Trump literally but not seriously. You need to take him seriously but not literally. You would have a much deeper understanding of what is about to happen in November.

Please. If you cannot read, that is your problem, not mine. Atrial fibrillation is a dangerous condition. Look for Kareem Abdul Jabbar's AFib warnings on TV.

As for 70-year-old Bobby, he does stressful workouts to maintain his impressive muscle structure which could bring on an Afib attack resulting in a stroke. Remember that he has spent time in the hospital because of his heart condition. One look at 75-year-old Kareem will tell you that he has slowed down - it is unlikely that he shoots hoops anymore.

At some point during gestation a zygote/fetus/infant must earn equal Constitutional protection under the 14th Amendment. Otherwise, the humanity and rights of any life depends upon the valuation of another person (mother or whatever). Why stop at full term? Give them a month or year or decade after the birth to see if they like the kid.

Evolutionary stance.
I'm so old I remember democrats were aghast at John Kerry's claim that American soldiers were "Baby Killers" in Vietnam. He even threw his military medals away!
He eventually has been seen with all his military medals proudly gleaming, so there's that.
Evolutionary.

In the interests of equality, give the kid a chance to see if he likes his mother. If not, kill the bitch!

We could use an altar of sorts in the state capitols dedicated to women's rights. Then we could require the aborted mass be incinerated there.
A celebration of rights, as American as the Fourth Of July.

It would be easier and safer to deliver the child than to kill a baby in the third trimester.

If the "choice" is to "not be pregnant," delivering the baby makes you not pregnant.

There are millions of Christians -- not Kennedy, obviously -- who would be happy to adopt unwanted babies and love them.

It's a kill-right. He's supporting a kill-right. And he's (implicitly) denying that men have anything to do with this horror show.

"It's your decision, it's none of my business, here's some money, get rid of our child."

That's a coercive and violent attitude for any man to take.

Saint Croix said...

Back in 1973, when liberals were fighting for abortion rights in Texas, they decided not to attack the criminal statute that punished partial-birth abortion with life in prison.

(See Roe v. Wade, first footnote).

So that's where he is. With Mao and Castro, far to the left of Roe v. Wade.

What protections does he have for newborns?

Nada.

What concern does he have for them? What love does he have?

Nada.

Althouse: "I think his feet were supposed to be off camera." No. The wierd atmospherics--the stocking feet, the cute lady interviewer with her feet tucked under her on the sofa--were entirely calculated. This was not intended to be an intellectual discussion. It was a crafted presentation. Somebody thought the socks were a good idea. I think he went shirtless once or twice too. Ugh. We just are not serious.

RigelDog said...

Hey liberal women. If you don't like the sex of the fetus is it moral to abort after week 14, 18, or, 21 for that reason alone? I'm sure it's done, but not often admitted. }}}}}

A friend of a friend, a female attorney in her early 30's who earns a good salary and has good extended family support, decided to leave her husband (he was admittedly a strange and emotionally abusive man) but she was already a few months pregnant with her second child (first was a daughter.) Then she had an abortion at 24 weeks---because it was a boy. This poor child had to die because he was male. It still shocks me to think about it.

RigelDog said...

In later term abortions, the baby MUST be delivered--you can't just suck it out like you can before 12 weeks. The baby does not need to be killed in the process of delivering her. The mother does not have to keep the baby after it is delivered live.

A woman may be entitled to be made un-pregnant. I don't think there's any moral basis for her (and, very importantly, not the father) to decree that a viable, delivered baby must be killed.
