In all first aid lessons on The Heimlich Maneuver or any other first aid treatment for choking you ask the person apparently choking- "Are you choking?" If they answer yes- they're not choking. Simple abs easy to understand. There may be something obstructing their breathing, and first aid treatment for choking could conceivably make it worse. 911, get medics there if it's obvious something is wrong.

Likewise, if someone is shouting "I can't breathe!", and is repeating it continuously, they're breathing. If there appears to be a problem, call for medics- as Derek Chauvin did. There are a host of possibilities of why breathing might be difficult. Asthma, allergic reaction, some types of injuries, or, as was the case, a drug overdose causing the lungs to fill with fluid. The OD causes the user to drown in his own body fluids. Nothing bystanders OR police can do. Not much the medics can do unless they can rapidly figure out what's happening. And their arrival was apparently delayed by the mob.

Simple, quick, easy to understand. If they're talking, they're not choking, and they are breathing. They may be in distress, but that's a whole other matter. And if they were violent they may need to be restrained regardless of their distress.

Sometimes if you're rescuing a non-swimmer who is panicking you have to basically coldcock them so you both make it back to safety.; 4/28/24, 7:03 PM

In Florida, no less. All caught on Winn-Dixie's parking lot cameras. The deputy tracks down the miscreant at his house and proceeds to haul him off to the pokey while his poor wife is standing by, clearly not happy with his performance. Sweet.

The case is a tax funded political contribution to Joe Biden. That is the only way the so-called "mistakes" make any sense.

Trump is lucky there is no video nor audio of the trial for the Biden campaign to cherry-pick.

Howard said...: Good morning from zero dark thirty. Hints of spring around New England. The buds are popping and the bugs buzzing. Finally did an open water swim in wetsuit on Saturday. 54°F, bald eagle was flying over head the entire time. I always get the feeling of being sized up by them.

Not only will no one will remember any of us a short while after we go west, no one will eventually remember the United States of America, let alone Donald Trump or Sleepy Creepy Joe.

We thought of life by analogy with a journey, a pilgrimage, which had a serious purpose at the end, and the thing was to get to that end, success or whatever it is, maybe heaven after you’re dead. But we missed the point the whole way along. It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing or to dance while the music was being played.

Mike of Snoqualmie said...: My wife's 75th birthday was last Friday. To celebrate, we stayed in Seattle for the weekend at the Silver Cloud Inn, right next to T-Mobile Park. We had tickets for Friday in the new luxury seating area called the Press Club. The Press Club area is the lower deck of the press boxes, now converted into dining and seating. All you can eat buffet, all you can drink booze and great viewing seats (3 rows, 6 sections, about 360 seats). Our seats were the first row, 4th section, so we had great views of pitcher/home plate.

The Silver Cloud upgraded our room to a corner suite, overlooking Royal Brougham and 1st Ave, and the Left Field Entrance to the ball park.

The Mariners beat the AZ Diamondbacks on Friday and Saturday, but lost to them on Sunday.

Pam had a wonderful birthday celebration this last weekend. We'll be returning to the SC again when we have another three-day ticket package.; 4/29/24, 7:53 AM

I finally spread the seed on about a 1/4-acre on Friday, after about a year's effort of removing rocks. Our soil is the result of the last glacier advance, called glacial till. It's rocks of all sizes, from pebbles to boulders a few feet in size.

Removing the larger rocks isn't too hard, though some of them require using the tractor to dig them up. It's all of the smaller rocks and pebbles that are difficult to remove because they're so numerous. I had to hand rake them into piles, then sift them with a 1/2-in sieve, dump the rocks into the tractor's bucket and then move them into yet another rock pile.

The clean soil mounds up, and has to be spread around. Using the tractor's box grader spreads the soil, but also digs up more rocks. I still have to remove these additional rocks, but that won't take too long, once the rain stops.; 4/29/24, 8:43 AM

His argument is literally that it’s not true Biden pays the rent because it’s actually Biden’s administration rather than Biden himself.
