"Trans activists often cite low regret rates for gender transition, along with low figures for detransition. But those studies..."

"... which often rely on self-reported cases to gender clinics, likely understate the actual numbers. None of the seven detransitioners I interviewed, for instance, even considered reporting back to the gender clinics that prescribed them medication they now consider to have been a mistake.... Garcia-Ryan is gay, but as a boy, he said, 'it was much less threatening to my psyche to think that I was a straight girl born into the wrong body — that I had a medical condition that could be tended to.' When he visited a clinic at 15, the clinician immediately affirmed he was female.... 'You’re made to believe these slogans,' he said. 'Evidence-based, lifesaving care, safe and effective, medically necessary, the science is settled — and none of that is evidence based.'... Garcia-Ryan, 32, is now the board president of Therapy First.... 'When a professional affirms a gender identity for a younger person, what they are doing is implementing a psychological intervention that narrows a person’s sense of self and closes off their options for considering what’s possible for them,' Garcia-Ryan told me...."

Homo-erotic Jesus and a grooming evil clinician only two posts apart.

Children have suffered sexual abuse by the hands of evil people claiming to represent Christ.

They also suffer life changing sexual abuse by "experts" who claim to represent science.

I well remember one of the arguments against the death penalty from the days when I was a Democrat. The argument was that if just one innocent person was wrongfully executed, it therefore immoral to have the death penalty at all.

Same deal with minors and this trans business. If one minor now regrets the transition, the moral choice is to ban all minors from surgery and drugs.

Luke Hein is a young woman who was mutilated, as a minor, and she has sued UNMC and Nebraska Medicine. I was talking to one of her lawyers just last night at Warren Buffett's favorite steakhouse.

UNMC will pay $10m to $15m to Luka Hein. And there will be many more.

I also learned that UNMC has been doing this for some period of time. Lots of plaintiffs.

Gender is sex-correlated attributes (e.g. sexual orientation). Gender transition occurs through surgical, medical, and psychiatric corruption. Not all colors in the transgender spectrum are equally unstable. Some are more profitable on a forward-looking basis than others. Think the AIDS transgendermic.

When Obama and Obamacare pushed transitions and gender changes into insurance plans, those who earn paychecks from medical treatment stood up and took notice. Obama literally, if inadvertently, funded a generation of predatory doctors. Obama created a nation of Josef Mengele clones.

Per Vanderbilt University:

“These are huge money makers.” A doctor assured staff that the hospital would profit greatly from transition treatments. She listed figures of tens of thousands of dollars for surgeries that remove male and female sex organs or install artificial ones. She repeatedly stated that they are “money makers,” adding that they require a lot of “follow-ups” from patients.

Conscientious objections from staff would bring “consequences.” Another doctor that year warned staff that refusing to perform the surgeries is “problematic.” She said, “Saying that you’re not going to do something… because of your religious beliefs is not without consequences, and it should not be without consequences.”

I generally hold a dim view of the plaintiff's tort bar but Dave Begley is right. Huge verdicts against deep-pocketed professionals and institutions (and their carriers) is the only cure for this quackery. We saw that with the "recovered memory" fad in psychiatry (which allied itself with the ritual satanic abuse prosecutions of the 80s). When former patients started recounting how the professionals suggested the memories, and the damage done to their families in front of juries, recovered memories vanished from the psychiatric scene.

Garcia-Ryan is gay, but as a boy, he said, 'it was much less threatening to my psyche to think that I was a straight girl born into the wrong body — that I had a medical condition that could be tended to.'

Like I've said before, socially acceptable homophobia based on stereotyping that would be roundly condemned by the same people pushing this.

'When a professional affirms a gender identity for a younger person, what they are doing is implementing a psychological intervention that narrows a person’s sense of self and closes off their options for considering what’s possible for them,'

These "gender" professionals are affirming something on children with their own bias and self interests. What do they get out of it if they tell the patient, nope, you're not a girl, you're definitely a boy. Nothing we can really do. Just hang tight. You'll grow out of it.

But what they're really doing is the same as abusive priests:

"It's ok Tommy. Some people think what we're doing is a sin. They just don't understand. It's part of our special friendship. You'll grow to like it more and more. Your parents trust me. You should too."

At least wait for informed consent, before entertaining a solution that permanently turns the lives of boys and girls inside out and dysfunctional.

n.n said...

Boys could play with dolls.. Girls could play sports..

All of that is fine. Recall when boys and girls would play house to mimic their mom and dad. The equal and complementary status of the sexes is narrowly tailored by Nature, then normalized by parents, community, society, and humanity.

As a rule I detest the ambulance chasers of the med-mal plaintiff's bar, who have cast very lucrative blame on innocent doctors and hospitals for acts of God that no human intervention could have prevented. They can take credit for a significant fraction of the runaway costs of our health care system due to the practice of "defensive medicine" their piratical, parasitic litigation lottery has induced.

Perhaps they can redeem themselves in a small way by putting a stop to what really is grossly negligent and abusive malpractice: the "treatment" of mentally ill children with permanent sterilization, mutilation, and eradication of the physiological capacity to enjoy sexual pleasure, with the flimsiest of scientific support.

One day this era in the history of medicine will appear in our textbooks of medical ethics on the same page as Dr. Mengele, frontal lobotomies, and the Tuskegee syphilis experiments.

Lead story and headline on The Daily Mail right now:

"Father lost legal battle to stop his son, 8, from taking puberty blockers to change gender after mom sent him to 'transgender affirming' therapist...before child changed his mind a year later".

The father lost all legal medical authority over his son. Yet, I'm sure the 'therapist' is still practicing.

This, after last week's news of a Montana parents who lost custody of their 14-year-old daughter after refusing to transition her gender. They were informed by the school that the girl had changed her name, and were then visited by Child Protective Services who determined the child needed to transition.

We live in some truly evil times. And there are some crazy people out there with way too much authority and influence over children and families. Like Priests.

So what if the regret rate is low?

The trial lawyers ain't gonna care. There's a gold mine here. The gender therapists are going to have to convince a jury that they had nothing to do with a 15 year old using hormones off-label, and/or getting surgery, none of which was medically necessary. Some of them have severe medical or psychological problems later, and they can get paid.

You may not like trial lawyers, but this is an opportunity that doesn't come often. How many people will decide that the whole transition thing didn't work out if they can make a lot of money? I suspect at least a few!

Trans medical treatments are very expensive and require continuing medication for the rest of the patient's life. These are very lucrative procedures for medical centers, until the lawsuits end up being very costly.

I've written here before, congrats to the NYT for being on the right side of this issue. When I testified before the NE Unicam, I brought that up.

Harmet Dillon represents Luka Hein along with the St. Thomas Moore Law Society. But Jeff Dowding in Lincoln is doing all the work. He's a conservative friend and a great lawyer.

UNMC's lawyer is my former neighbor. As far as I known, he's never tried a medmal case. He doesn't even list medmal as one of his areas of specialty. There are about a dozen experienced medmal defense lawyers in NE and this guy is not one of them. But the case is hopeless anyway. NE has a medmal cap and the cap will be paid.

First, parents are told lies about suicide rates among kids with gender dysphoria. The suicide rate among these kids is not affected by gender transition. It is as high post gender transition as before. This whole fad will collapse in a flurry of lawsuits just as "Recovered Memories" did. At least that fad did not mutilate kids.

And think about this: The doctors and mental health "professionals" who will poison a child for life with puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones after literally consulting over the phone for only twenty minutes, and who will then jump at the chance to slice off a teen girl's breasts or a teenaged boy's penis, HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE how to help that child when the child desists and wants help in reversing the process. They have no clue and they have no desire to help put Humpty back together again.

Robert Marshall said...

Before the medical system realized that "thar's gold in them thar transgender hills," the usual practice with minors was counsel and wait for puberty to be completed. The result was that most kids (80% is commonly cited) came to terms with their sexuality, and no longer experienced gender dysphoria. The other 20%, being now adults, could do what they wanted with their bodies.

So now, we have the medical system preying on all of these gender dysphoric kids, transing them before they've grown up, putting them on a trans-train of treatments which just keeps going, no stopping and getting off, regrets are social suicide, so no one says "I made a mistake, let me off at the next station." Until they wake up some day and realize they've given up their sex life for a life of hormones and no orgasmic function.

Sue the you-know-what out of the trans-docs!

The problem with studies that involve LGBT is if the results are not what certain groups want to hear, then anyone involved with the study will either be forced to recant or have their lives ruined. Anyone who announced they wanted to do such a study would not be funded unless they were guaranteed to produce the desired results.

Politicized science is just politics. There is no science left.

In addition, those that commit suicide after treatment tend not to get counted either. Given the huge percentage of transgenders who have one or more major mental illnesses, which generally do not go away after "treatment" since the "treatment" does nothing to address these issues despite the promises, the suicide rate is quite high. I suspect the regret rate is pretty high among the departed, and the rest of them fall into the "didn't help" category. There's no real reason for the medical profession to investigate them given the large percentage of the medical professionals involved are either (a) only in it for the money and dead people are not going to pay or (b) true believers that do not want their beliefs challenged.

It is worth recognizing that many of those studies with low detransition rates were done under the old rules which established a high bar that applicants had to meet (extensive counseling, time spent living as the preferred sex, etcetera) before medical interventions were provided.
