"Earlier this year, The Times found, Mr. Weiss appeared willing to forgo any prosecution of Mr. Biden at all..."

"... and his office came close to agreeing to end the investigation without requiring a guilty plea on any charges. But the correspondence reveals that his position, relayed through his staff, changed in the spring, around the time a pair of I.R.S. officials on the case accused the Justice Department of hamstringing the investigation. Mr. Weiss suddenly demanded that Mr. Biden plead guilty to committing tax offenses...."

I can't read the article. Does the paper of record (sic) tell us the dollar amount of Mr. Biden's unpaid tax liability?

Is this presented as sympathetic to Biden, i.e., he wouldn't have been charged at all by Weiss if not for outside political pressure. Or is it an exposé that reveals a crooked fix by Weiss that was aborted when the whistleblowers came forward.

It's the Times. Hard to believe it's the latter, particularly since Biden insiders and DOJ personnel were spilling. At best they may have straddled the line.

For those keeping score at home:

1) Weiss finally decided to charge Hunter Biden.

2) The judge figured out the fake plea agreement they arranged behind closed doors that would protect Hunter from any jail time or future charges for ANY crimes.

3) Weiss dropped all charges against Hunter Biden.

That is where it currently stands. No charges are pending against Hunter Biden. Even though he's on tape doing crack cocaine, buying prostitutes and accepting bribes on behalf of his criminal father Joe Biden, who shares ownership of 20 offshore companies used to launder these bribes so that nobody in the family is required to pay taxes on this income, which then gets funneled back to Joe Biden by Hunter through rent payments, repairs on houses, etc. etc.

A RICO conspiracy, as it were.

So yeah, let's indict Trump.

Hooker banging.

Coke sniffing. (Okay, you got me. With Trump it was Adderall.)

Bagman duties.

Tax evasion.

And a little adultery as well.

Deplorable!

The pressures changed their calculations. Can't afford to look to nice women like the complete tools you are. So they tried to fudge it.

Even the NYT hints that internal pressures all went the other way.

It's good to be a Dem/prog in America. No taxes, lying on gun application, mishandling that gun, whoring with abandon, repeatedly using illegal drugs, corrupting the polity--no prob.

WHO CARES ABOUT HUNTER BIDEN! If he and one of his hooker girl friends had spent the last couple of decades robbing banks, who would care except for their victims? They might even have become folk heroes. Like Bonnie and Clyde.
What matters is that ALL OF US are the victims, because Hunter sold the influence and power of the US Government to the highest bidder.
What did Joe Biden know and when did he know it?
It doesn't matter that much who gets elected President in 2024, so long as it's not Joe Biden or any other Democrat. There's some house cleaning to be done.

I noted that too. Why would it have taken outside political pressure? The gun crime is pretty solid. Now that we have more information from whistleblowers to match up with the laptop; it seems the tax violations are also pretty solid. If the DOJ can come up with inventive philosophies to indict a former President; how come they don't have internal pressure to prosecute a President's son for common felonies?

I know the answer, but I'm tired of the continual effort to feed us obvious lies.

Damn, I feel like a prosecutor could have a lot of fun using old speeches from Senator Biden to describe to a jury the seriousness of the crimes his son committed. A younger Joe used to rail against drugs, guns, and people who evaded paying taxes.

Why couldn't Manafort have pled guilty to some minor charges, faced a fine an probation, and gotten immunity for everything else, instead of rotting in prison for the same violations that it is a matter of public record that Hunter Biden committed?

David Charles Weiss (DOB: 06/13/1956) is the son of Meyer Weiss (DOB: 02/16/1924).

Meyer was an IRS agent in Philly from 1955 to 1984. During his tenure, Meyer accepted over $200k in bribes from businessmen to help them break federal tax laws.

This brings up the things for which this pro-GOP group of NYT writers is really useful: giving David Weiss or someone in his immediate vicinity an opportunity to cause David Weiss more problems.

Three times in the story, NYT provides anonymity to a “senior law enforcement official” to push back on the representation of the deal, including as laid out by documentary evidence. In one such instance, NYT helpfully notes that if Weiss commented, he would be violating DOJ policies and possibly the law (though the leaks in this story don’t appear to violate grand jury secrecy).

In a second instance, this anonymous “senior law enforcement official” denies something — that David Weiss told an associate that “the average American would not be prosecuted for similar offenses,” the kind of assertion that might provide the basis for an exceedingly rare successful claim of selective prosecution — that only David Weiss would know.

This chatty senior law enforcement official similarly denies something else that could bollox any further charges against Hunter Biden — that the only reason he “reneged” on the original terms of the plea deal is that IRS agents got journalists to report claims of bias that their own testimony did not substantiate. And if Weiss and DOJ IG didn’t already have enough to talk about, there’s this passage from the NYT, with its truly epic use of the passive voice: “Mr. Weiss was quietly assigned,” by whom, NYT didn’t choose to explain.

That’s because there are already parallel investigations — at Treasury IG and at DOJ IG — into the leaking that occurred during this investigation. David Weiss was already going to be a witness in them, because [James Comer's whistleblower, FBI agent] Gary Shapley made claims about what Weiss said personally at a meeting on October 7, 2022, a meeting that was called first and foremost to discuss leaks. Shapley had plenty of holes in his testimony that the NYT failed to point out.

So it could be that now Special Counsel Weiss may be stirring the pot as the unknown senior law enforcement official. One way or another the leaker has to be exposed.

Gosh tim, Meyer Weiss was a piker compared to Fred C. Trump, Sr,., Donald's dad, who devised a tax fraud scheme, All County Building Supply & Maintenance, which permitted Fred to give money to his children free of 55% taxes and to adjust rents upward on his rent-stabilized buildings by overcharging all maintenance to these buildings from 1992 until the practice was questioned in 2019. Building profits, of course, declined so income taxes went down as well.

Donald got one-fifth of All County's "profits" every year as did siblings Robert, Elizabeth, Fred Jr., and Maryanne. Maryanne was a federal judge who was forced to resign to end a civil misconduct inquiry launched after a report that she participated in Trump family schemes to dodge taxes.

I can tell you've never been audited or have engaged a CPA to do your taxes. I'm gonna yell at you. Do Not Evade Your Taxes! Always. Always employ a certified tax preparer or CPA to dpo your taxes. To willfully not pay your taxes is a criminal offense. Hunter fucked up. No surprise. He's a fuck up. By the time you're standing in front of a tax judge it's too late to back down. He's going one of two ways. To prison or working out a schedule to pay his debt. And he better not miss one payment.
It is illegal for a felon to own a gun. In all 50 staes. Even to handle one is a crime in most states.
But it is a relieve to finally have you all admit that you encourage the uneven administration of the rule of law. Makes ignoring your silly asses easy.

"the fact that republicans were blowing up these two tax charges and gun violation into a 'worse than Watergate' crime spree means,"

Either Rich doesn't know that there was an addendum added to the plea deal that listed other possible violations by Hunter, such as the FARA violations that Manafort is sitting in prison for, and specified that Hunter would be given immunity from prosecution for any and all matters mentioned in the plea deal, or he's a liar. Either way, he is not worth listening to.

The deal was given to the judge minutes before the hearing, to make it very difficult for her to understand the ramifications of it, and the way that it created the immunity almost amounted to a RICO style crime. Two separate sections of the deal seemed unconnected, but when taken together, they amounted to a get out of jail free card for Hunter. And Weiss crafted this deal with Hunter's lawyers.

Maybe Rich can give us a reason, other than to deviously engineer immunity from prosecution on those crimes, that the FARA violations were mentioned in a plea deal on tax and gun charges. This should be good.
