When you're being corrected by a dimbulb like Patty Murray, it's long past time to hang it up.

Funny that. That's what Soros said!

First "Colorado, Death", now "Dianne Feinstein, gerontocracy"...another great one!

Feinstein is the brains behind the whole thing.

Our government is a joke.

She’ll be there until the bitter end of her term— unless the grim reaper has other plans.

She seemed to be quite clear on what she was doing - just not that it wasn't the time for that.

Poor old dear. They are going to stuff her deceased skin with straw and keep wheeling her out. But then cognitively she's no worse than Fetterman.

Mmm. "Gerontocracy" seems like a tag you could retroactively apply to a lot of posts -- the one about McConnell, for example, or a bunch of posts about Biden.

How politburo of us. So chatgpt could easily replace her.

The Godfather said...

Our Senators and Congresscritters are supposed to do more than just vote. They are supposed to influence legislation before it comes for a vote. I suppose the Senator has a highly competent staff that uses her name to influence legislation. How about retiring her and electing her staff to replace her?

"Just say aye."

Remember about three or four years ago when the "defense authorization" bill "modernized" restrictions on our government propagandizing Americans that had been put in place in 1948 after seeing what propaganda had done to the liberal democracy that was Germany, turning it into a fascist totalitarian state, ditto Italy. It turns out that "modernizing" this this bill meant eviscerating the anti-propaganda statute completely. I think this is why defense officials feel perfectly comfortable lying about what is actually going on in Ukraine. It's propaganda, and now it's legal.

Yeah, go ahead and "just say aye," I am sure they haven't snuck anything in there with no discussion that your constituents might not like.

Gerontocracy is a form of oligarchical rule in which an entity is ruled by leaders who are significantly older than most of the adult population.

But Sen. Diane Feinstein doesn't "rule" anything, and what she did is far less scary than Mitch McConnell's latest event. Mitch claimed that he was sandbagged.

Meanwhile back to the good Badger GOP reps running wild in DC. Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.) is in hot water after he cursed out a group of teenage Senate pages in the Capitol rotunda early Thursday morning.

According to a transcript written by a page minutes after the incident and obtained by The Hill, Van Orden called 16 and 17 year-old pages “jackasses” and “pieces of shit,” and told them he didn’t “give a fuck who you are.”

Van Orden had been "partying loudly" with a group at an event in his office where alcohol was being served just prior to yelling at the pages. But brandy-sipping Derrick is barely 60 and he unlearned his manners while serving as a Navy Seal.

In fairness, Feinstein is not as brain damaged as the middle aged Fetterman.

Murray is a cunt. Feinstein shouldn’t be a Senator anymore but she shouldn’t be disrespected either.

Power and status are as addicting as fentanyl, politicians and Hollywood types can't give it up.

Reminds me of my 93 year old mom. I wouldn't want her to be a Senator either.

This is dreadful.

However, her voters decide.

And shame on them.

If it's your grandmother, it's sad. If it's a United States Senator, it's dangerous.

If the blue screen of death was a person, and that person happened to be a senator.

Feinstein, McConnell, Biden... All of the octogenarians need to go! Our adversaries have younger, more vital people running their regimes. We used to laugh about the oldsters running the Soviet Union and dying off in quick succession, but all of them were younger than Biden or McConnell or Feinstein. We need people who can do the job and not spend half of their time at medical appointments or glitching like Max Headroom.

She looks horrible.

No longer being capable of being who you think you are is tragic. Those of us on the doorstep understand what’s coming. Walking through the door is another matter altogether that we need to digest.

I agree, but let's talk about Fetterman.

Hard to decide who to pity more: Senator DiFi's tragic cognitive impairment or the country she still governs. Alzheimer's complicated by Herpes encephalitis is a bitch.

At least HL Mencken put it into perspective: "Democracy is the political theory that the common people know what they want, and they deserve to get it good and hard."

Enjoy getting it good and hard, CA and the USA. Your fellow countrymen voted for it.

As we used to say in the 3rd MARDIV on Okinawa, "Embrace the suck."

Patty M is, unfortunately, My Senator. She is one of the dimmest, least competent Senators (and that's saying a lot) who herself, cannot make any speech or talk to the press w/out notes in front of her. BUT - she's owned by the teacher unions/lobby, so she's doesn't care.

The headlines say that Sen. Feinstein was "confused" - but she was able to read from notes just like Patty Dearest. Patty can't hold a candle to Sen. Feinstein in terms of gravitas and intellectual (prior) firepower.

WHY do we pretend to have Senators? Are they our versions of the British Royalty?
Something that is just a figurehead? If we Continue to pretend to have Senators (and residents)..
Maybe senile brain dead ones ARE better?

Gadfly: have you ever dealt with a bunch of 17 and 18 year-old pages? The children of ultra rich donors. An almost uniformly nasty bunch who have accomplished nothing and worked for nothing but are still rewarded with prestige and power over lowly citizens.

I have often wanted to throw them off balconies. I'm far from alone.

When Representative Van Orden was their age, he was risking his life as a Navy Seal. He earned his seat through dangerous and selfless service. I don't care if he yelled at a bunch of spoiled brats acting out at the Capitol Building.

JAORE said...

Use a sharpie to write Aye on one palm and Nay on the other.

Then allow a staffer to choose the arm to raise.

DiFi doesn't even have to be breathing.

All better now.

Over at the Power Line blog they featured a tweet by Senator Whitehouse to the effect that under Senate rules if Feinstein resigns Mitch McConnell would be able to dictate who replaces her on the Judiciary Committee. Larry O’Donnell clarified with a response:

“Membership of Senate committees is determined by a vote of the full Senate and is subject to a 60 vote threshold. So replacing Feinstein on Judiciary is now impossible without Republican votes.”

Still, as a septuagenarian I am old enough to remember when the United States Senate was billed as “the greatest deliberative body in the world”. Now it’s reduced to “Just say ‘aye’.”

Another old lawyer said...

I know some of the founding fathers didn't expect political parties, some did, but I think they'd be uniformly horrified at what political parties have resulted in.

One more thing to add to the list of their horrors.

Now who can argue with that? I think we're all indebted to gadfly for clearly stating what needed to be said. I'm particularly glad that these lovely children were here today to hear that speech. Not only was it authentic progressive gibberish, it expressed a courage little seen in this day and age.

"Enjoy getting it good and hard, CA and the USA."

I realize we fought a war to prevent States from leaving the Union, but would we have to go to war again in order to boot one out? Is the anything in the Constitution preventing it?
