"In a statement, Sirhan’s attorney Angela Berry expressed concern that the board had been swayed by Newsom..."

"... who overruled the previous recommendation in 2022 and has argued that Sirhan has not been rehabilitated. She also argued against the idea that her client lacked 'sufficient insight' into his actions, citing psychiatric evaluations dating back to 1975 and the 2021 parole hearing. In an op-ed published in the Los Angeles Times last year, Newsom said Sirhan had 'not developed the accountability and insight required to support his safe release into his community.'"

Oh no! Anyway...

Parole for anyone who wantonly took another person's life is an abomination. (Especially since the murderer should have been dead long ago.)

He deserves to spend life in prison.

If he did it.

Hey, WaPo found the one criminal the dems don't want to put back on the street!

Ice Nine, concur and he should have been hung, drawn and quartered.

I don't see any good or rational reason to parole anyone who is unquestionably guilty of murder. They've intentionally forfeited their lives by their actions and if we're not going to execute them, then they should spend the rest of their lives in confinement. (Please note that the key word is 'unquestionably'.)

I don't think that the fact that the murdered person is a politician or public figure makes any difference at all in the disposition. Justice needs to be blind or we need to stop using the word justice in the context.

Sirhan stays in stir...where he belongs.

And I didn't even like R. Kennedy.

The real headline is that he's up for parole -- again.

And if he keeps himself alive long enough the political climate will change such that those in power will demand his release.

Political expediency. If Newsom gets the nomination and the Presidency, I expect one of his last acts as Governor will be to pardon Sirhan.

Manson Family member Squeaky Fromme was paroled after 34 years. On the one hand, she only attempted to commit murder. On the other hand, the man she attempted to assassinate was the President of the United States, not just a candidate for his party’s presidential nomination.

Also, Gerry Ford was a Republican, Bobby Kennedy a Democrat from the extreme left wing of his party. So Sirhan will never see daylight again.

@Another Old Lawyer, your second paragraph has no touchpoints with reality in the post-Obama United States.

I agree with Another Old Lawyer. It is clear Sirhan offered Kennedy no parole and can never change that decision.

Were Kennedy a republican he'd have been out decades ago...

Sirhan killed a Democrat saint. Especially a far left wing saint. No Democrat, especially one of the current party, would let him go.

It is odd that the Democrats have finally found a murderer they don't want to let go free.

I'm teaching the JFK era in high school U.S. History this week. The only things the kids really care about is the Zapruder film.

But I have a hard time understanding where the Boomer outrage is. Bobby's death, coming after John's and Martin's had a huge effect on the Boomers and had a lot to do with all the disorder in 1968. If you had told them at the time that Bobby's murderer would one day be up for parole, they would have rioted.

I personally think Sirhan should have been executed no later than 1969 and by firing squad, and I'm not even a Boomer or a Liberal. (Ironic aside: By today's standards, Kennedy governed as a Republican and Nixon governed as a Democrat)

@Big Mike. Exactly; call the second paragraph 'aspirational' or my view of how the world should work and part of what 'justice' should mean (but doesn't).

Palestinian Sirhan would stand a better chance of parole in California if he admitted aloud that he'd killed RFK because of the senator's support for Israel and his fear what RFK would do in the Middle East if elected president.

He could point out that he'd been triggered by the Six-Day War, which had started the day before the assassination.

This being California, had he done that long ago, he'd have been let out in the '90s.

The man who shot at newly elected President FDR in Miami (he killed the mayor next to him) was executed before the inauguration in April. I think that was the correct way to deal with political assassins.

Paroling murderers should not be a priority.

If Newsome has aspirations to run for President and actually have a chance to win he should start signing all of the death warrants in California. He might get the Bubba vote in the general election, it worked for Bill Clinton in 92. As for Sirhan, he got the death penalty then the Supreme Court overruled the penalty after his sentencing ( not his particular sentence) so he is living on borrowed time. If the SOB were to be pardoned he would be hailed as a hero by the Palestinians and welcomed home. He is where he belongs and he needs to die there.

Sirhan Sirhan and the J6 protestors - No parole/release for you!! Wait, did the J6 crowd murder anybody? Ah, yes - feelings.

I shook RFK’s hand the night before he was killed at a campaign rally. Still remember that vividly.

I may be mistaken, but I believe the California parole board is not allowed to consider an applicant's crime for which he is sentenced.

Psychiatrists and penitentiary administration say the prisoner is well-behaved and not a threat,
a sadistic serial killer could be paroled

Maybe John Hinckley will visit Sirahan Sirhan some day.
