Look at this shiny object in my hand. Concentrate! Keep your eyes on it.
A distraction, for sure.
The rug is about to be pulled out from under our feet.
“Where’s Hunter?”
Where is all those weapons and money that was thrown into the black hole of Ukraine?
Why is the military/industrial complex pushing us into a world war?
Why are impeachment hearings not initiated for President Biden’s corruption and abuse of power?
Because there are UFOs invading our air space.
Concentrate! Look at the shiny object in my hand. Keep your eyes on it.
The real threat is invaders from Mars as we go about our life on Mars.

Oh good lord.
We are not being visited by people from other solar systems. What ever it was it came from here on earth.

We are led by lying idiots who can’t keep their cover stories straight. Combine the mocking official Chinese statement today with the fact Biden is too frightened to do the traditional halftime interview at The Big Game and you have a snapshot of the weakness and disarray of our Top Men. Every prior statement is made inoperative by the reaction to the next UAP. The only thing confirmed within the confusion is that the guys giving orders don’t know what the fuck they are ordering our pilots to shoot at.

Yay for our Return to Normal! Unfortunately “normal” for democrat admins is starting needless wars and In Joe’s case includes provoking both nuclear armed China and Russia at the same time. So normal.

Our government, media and "elites" have lost their collective minds. It's not even a question of Left or Right. It's a question of crazy on one hand and reality on the other.
And to even the most casual observer we are not doing well.

Mark said...

Whoever wrote that headline went well past what the clip showed, but don't let that get in the way of your prepackaged talking points.

I didn't hear any comments about aliens

John henry said...

Wouldn't that make it an "unidentified flying object" or UFO?

How about some honesty in reporting "white house confirms shooting down a UFO" would be a great and more appropriate headline.

That was me yesterday in the thread about the shoot down.

A few here probably sniggered at that crazy John Henry and his conspiracy/tin foil hat theories.

Thank you for not doing it publicly. You saved me embarrassment yesterday and yourselves embarrassment today.

Just a reminder: "UFO" stands for Unidentified Flying Object. It does *not* mean "alien spaceship".

When a UFO is identified, it becomes an IFO - Identified Flying Object. However, the latter term never seemed to catch on with the general public.

John henry said...

And I would remind everyone that a UFO is just that :an object that is unidentified and is flying. Of any kind or origin

Hence "unidentified flying object"

Why is that so difficult for some?

Glad to see someone in high places paying attention to me.

Balloons don't have propulsion systems. If they did, they'd be blimps, dirigibles or zeppelins. Balloons go where the wind blows. The only way to steer them is to change altitude to find favorable winds.

Joe Bid-him would have a massive brain-fart in any interview he gave. His brain would freeze up for a few minutes while he tried to understand the question and then answer it. Since it would be live, there would be no way to hide it. He knows the result would be a 25A removal.

I watched the entirety of the CNN clip, and then searched for more of it, to make certain that I wasn't missing anything.

Not one word from Jim Acosta or Natasha Bertrand was weird or false or conspiratorial. It was straight reporting and discussion of what was known from Pentagon sources; what reportable information was known, and what was unknown, and even what the conflicting information was.

There wasn't a hint of "space alien invasion" in any of it.

Now Althouse; I expect that you know and agree with all of that. Because the crazy-conspiracy part comes from Emerald Robinson, and (with this particular Twitter-capture) Michael Senger. Emerald Robinson; fired from Newsmax (?!) for being too extremist/conspiratorial (she did catch on with Mr. My Pillow's LindellTV). Michael Senger; anti-vax contributor to The Epoch Times.

So my question, Althouse, is whether (as I expect) you understood all of this clearly, and the point of the blog post was to point out where the hysterical space-alien conspiracy chatter was coming from. Not from CNN. Not from the Biden Administration. But rather from the usual suspects in the TrumpWing fever swamps. My guess is that, indeed, was your point.

There's a personal aspect for me with this, because a couple of your commenters tried to pull the same UFO/space alien bullshit with me in the last week.

I am not trying to increase the (purely voluntary) workload of the Professor (whose dedication and effort are greatly appreciated, even by us occasional snarkers), but this seems like a subject that is in her wheelhouse--the change in meaning of UFO to mean "Space Alien Vehicle."

Although I think that the Buckaroo Banzai people got it right, and the aliens are just operating in another dimension.

The term UFO isn't synonymous with the term alien. Watching the clip, I didn't hear or see anyone say that it is an alien object from outerspace. They said it was unidentified as yet. This is how misinformation starts.

MadTownGuy said...

Every traffic sheet at every ATC facility in the US has a space for recording unidentified flying objects. How do I know this? I worked at a non-radar control tower in Roswell, NM in the mid-1980s. Once in a while we'd see a landing light blink on and off in the distance followed by a blink from a spot on the ground. Had to record it as a UFO, but we all knew what it really was.

It was not to be my career, as non-radar traffic control is a rare gift which I don't possess, but those who do have it do it well.

The term UFO isn't synonymous with the term alien.

Sure, but an alien simply belonging to another place. Is it a US object, or are you implying alien means from another planet? If we knew it belonged to the US, how do we know that yet unable to identify it?

I didn't hear or see anyone say that it is an alien object from outerspace.

I agree the critic used the term spacecraft, but who suggested outerspace besides you? The US makes spacecraft as do other countries.

You seem misinformed.

Krumhorn said...

Hi Chuck

You’re an idiot! All Acosta needed to say was that it is too early to know any details about the crafts. Instead, they danced merrily around the differing (“conflicting”) accounts from the pilots about propulsion, sensors and purpose…pilots who would have been passing the object at more than 250 knots and who, at that speed, wouldn’t have recognized their own mothers had they been aboard the ballon.

Ooooo…all very mysterious…let’s talk more about unknown means of propulsion and conflicting accounts.

I’m pretty sure that your propulsion is the whiplash from mental farts when you strike a match to ignite them.

Yancey Ward said...

A "cylindrical object" just hovering in the air at 40,000 feet, with no visible means of propulsion, is a balloon of some sort. We don't have to create conjectures about what is keeping it in the air or pretend it might be some otherworldly object- we can immediately move the proper conclusion.

This is all a distraction because of the government corruption investigation in the House and the continuing saga of Hunter Biden’s computer and Twitter/Facebook running interference on it. It’s so simple even a dullard like me can see it a mile away.

They've shot down a fourth UFO. This time over Lake Huron.

It's past time for our government to tell us what the Hell is going on and what they shooting at.

They have good photographs/video of the objects. They must. Why don't they release them?

Any alien craft would be invulnerable to us.

They would be like gods...

tommyesq said...

They make much of the pilots not having the same description and not seeing a propulsion system, but the F-35 has an absolute minimum speed of about 115 mph, which is pretty fast to pass by a smallish balloon and make anything out about it. Plus, I have not heard that this balloon had a propulsion system or that it maneuvered at all (unlike the first one that was shot down over the Carolina coast).

Have you ever noticed that with all the expensive, high tech, photography equipment that the United States armed forces possesses that we are never shown an up close sharp focus picture of the UFO in question. Not one.

Probably nobody saw my late-as-ever comment in the prior thread (and probably the same here), but I'll just repeat the most salient part. We're back to sucking up to mommy/Mrs. Cleaver and trying to accomplish my purpose of driving a wedge between her and the commenters she graciously allows to express their views here.

And, if you want to stop being insulted and mocked here, stop being an asshole.

People have associated UFOs with aliens for so long that it's hard to think about them any other way. But say the words of the acronym slowly.

* Unidentified... (okay, true... we don't know exactly what it is)
* Flying... (definitely)
* Object... (obviously)

That's _actually_ all "UFO" means. It's something that flies that we don't have in a registration book anywhere.

If we don't know a particular object is a "Chinese Mark 7 Signals Balloon", it gets tagged "UFO" until the analysts give it a designation. Someone saw that and badly misunderstood it.

If the tech and media companies actually believed their own BS about banning "misinformation" and "disinformation", the federal government wouldn't stand a chance.

In a perfect denouement to the last few years of Rona/Vax mania, the most egregiously full of crap "conspiracy theorists" all turn out to be federal government agencies.

Yet another late-empire sign that America is over. Don't think so? See also how the media's been filling up with stories in the past week about how we're losing in Ukraine.

Offramps being lowered in real time. Game over.

Sadly. This advice will not be taken to heart by those who need to most.

But back to the subject at hand.
We can eliminate extra terrestrial origins out of hand. So that leaves us with the question; to who's advantage is it to disrupt our airspace? China. Obviously. But is Russia doing it too. What is the origin of the object over Lake Huron? The flight path shown on the inset from news sources make it look like it originated in Illinois. Has anyone seen Baron Hark....er...Pritzger lately?

Have you ever considered that if the US Armed Forces did have "sharp focus pictures" of UFOs that they would be classified "Top Secret" and withheld from the public?

They have released in recent years videos taken by US military aircraft of strange objects traveling at incredible speeds and maneuvering in ways not possible with any currently known earthly technology (with pilot voice communications exclaiming amazement at the objects they're tracking). The pilots saw these objects with their eyesight as well. However, this does not prove those objects are of alien origination; they might well be earthly objects developed by a nation (or nations) who possess advanced top secret technologies. If that is so, one might then ask: why is the nation with such technology not already exploiting it to dominate the rest of the world militarily and/or economically?

BTW, "UFO" is past its sell-buy date; the official term and acronym now is "UAP," Unidentified Arial Phenomena.

Have you ever considered they don't because there aren't any spacecraft visiting us from outer space.
Most likely what you are marveling at is plasma produced by tectonic pressure. Quite common around fault zones.
