Anti-law enforcement policies have NOTHING to do with it. Now move along.

Am I the only one who’s ever ordered something, say a wooden wrist watch, from Amazon back in the late 90s, and never opened it. I believe i will never opened it now.

The weather forecast for our new home is snow showers starting on Saturday and running through the following Saturday. Our home is at 565-ft MSL. This is the first snowfall this season for that low an altitude.

Mike of Snoqualmie said...

The snow showers are forecast through Thursday the 16th. Snow forecasts for two weeks out are notoriously unreliable, though it's fun to see how the forecast changes as week get closer.

The Abortion viability argument

Pro Abortionist: I think slavery is perfectly fine and should be legal under all circumstances.

Anti Abortionist: Slavery is reprehensible under all circumstances and needs to be illegal.

Abortion Moderate: I think that slavery is fine under certain conditions, depending on the hardship of the slave owner and the color of the slave's skin.

PA: The slave is property, it does not matter the color and the owner's property rights should not be infringed. It's in the constitution.

AA: People are not property.

PA: Salves aren't people.

AM: Maybe they are people based on the color of their skin. Can't we use some standard to determine when they reach personhood based on how little melanin they have? Since monkey's are dark, the closer to monkey color one is, the less like a human they are.

PA: That's ridiculous. They are not people until the owner says they are people. Nothing else matters.

AA: That is ridiculous. They are biologically and genetically people from day one, not based on some arbitrary metric.

AM: No, you guys don't understand. This is a good compromise position. We can all work out a system where we can set a legitimate cutoff. Clearly Europeans aren't slaves. They are very white. Northern far east Asians like Chinese and Japanese aren't too dark. Not sure about Cambodia or Thailand, but Bangladesh and India are much too dark. Maori, too dark. African's for sure, are too dark [PA nods head enthusiastically]. Arabs and Hispanics are kind of dicey, but I would say dark for them.

AA stands with mouth agape. AM takes it as acceptance.

AM: There, we have a working criteria. If your slave is as an Indian or African, they can be kept as slaves, same for Hispanics and Arabs. Japanese and Chinese have to be set free. But Thai and Cambodian only if there is a concern for the mental health of the owner.

PA: I say that even with white people, right up to Albino you have to allow for the mental health of the owner, otherwise you can inflict undue burdens on them.

AA: You guys are all wrong. Everyone is a human. African, European, Asian. Everyone!

PA and AM: Extremist!

And yesterday they were down 1,000, from the morning high right to the low at the close.

At this moment, futures for tomorrow are negative.

How would a state actually enforce a ban on abortions after 15 weeks? Would it be like a 50 mph speed limit that means you’re safe as long as you’re not doing more than 55? What records must abortion providers maintain that could allow for any kind of realistic policing?
What percentage of abortions are performed after 15 weeks anyway — this cuts both ways in that if a fifteen week limit eliminates ( let’s say) 5% of abortions then it’s not so much of a burden, but if people vehemently opposed to abortion are pushing a law that allows 95% of abortions to occur, then it seems like this is just the first step toward more stringent restrictions.

Glenn Lourey is trying to explain his anger at blacks whose misbehavior is tarnishing the whole race. He's embarrassed for the race, he says.

I think this is a side-effect of Lourey and McWhorter refusing to allow (as too depressing) that blacks' IQ is significantly lower than whites', which provides not only the simplest evidence-supported explanation but furthermore a non-embarassing way out. No need for anger.

Not doing well and being told that it's because of whites holding you back systemically or otherwise justifies anger to the misbehaving blacks, and angry they are. They have no evidence otherwise. It's a good decision.

Stop telling blacks that. The dumb ones have to work on character. There's always a job for good character, and lo whites, far from holding you back, want to give you a leg up if you fit in.

Slavery was based on a hit-the-guy-on-the-head-and-take-his-stuff economic system. Enslaving the defeated enemy is more economic than killing him. A win for both sides.

The free market and enforcement of contracts make a slave working in his own interest contribute more to society than a slave working for a master, and slavery became obsolete. The free market and contract law freed the slaves indirectly.

The convention lived on as traditional, justified by reasons doomed to fail ("naturally subservient race") and fail they did, except in shithole countries with dysfunctional economies even today.

The slave holders know the slaves are human. What they don't want is for their slaves to see them as human. No joking around with the boss, as the same thing it survives today.

Lucien: that 15 weeks, still more than allowed in most of Europe's liberal states, is measured not from the last menstrual period but from two weeks after that, at ovulation. Most women keep track but it is also very easy for a doctor to use ultrasound or other ways to measure the baby's age and development very accurately. So most women know something is up when they are twp weeks pregnant and miss a period. By six weeks, virtually all healthy women know. So that's 9 more weeks to make a decision.

Ive seen many very young and abused girls, women with Downs Syndrome, anorectics and mentally ill women who don't know. And those are people who deserve to be treated with empathy.

Tina Trent said...

Also, Lucien, every doctor must report gestational age for every abortion. We keep extremely detailed records on this. See the Guttmacher website.

Of course, into the later second trimester, the baby's body must be reassembled in a tray to make sure they suctioned out all the arms and legs and feet and hands and parts of face and skull. Every pro-choice politician should have to spend a day doing this.

I just don't find it appropriate to say more about the news of the day. It's nice to read you all here, friend and foe. I am listening to my brother's death rattle. Alone. He lived in hospitals for 53 years.
My only thought is that if we are to not go mad, we need larger families again. Screw Smollet. Screw abortion. The lady setting up the hospice admission from some office in Texas today spontaneously twanged "Death be not proud. That John Dunne was something. Shakespeare was a piker compared to Dunne."

And I thought, holy shit, I actually haven't wasted my whole entire life with that degree in Medieval and Renaissance poetry.

Boris Johnson condemns Facebook for migrant trafficking adverts

"...Boris Johnson has criticised Facebook and other social media companies for letting people smugglers advertise their services on their platforms.

He said that the government’s Online Safety Bill would force tech firms to remove content that is fuelling the Channel migrant crisis, including adverts that promote illegal routes and forged documents such as passports."

'...Johnson made his new attack on Facebook after MPs accused it of allowing the platform to be exploited by smugglers to offer illegal routes to the UK and selling forged passports.

Damian Collins, the Conservative MP for Folkestone and Hythe, said it was “totally unacceptable that companies like Facebook allow those smugglers to offer their services on their platforms… not only routes into the country but also selling them forged British papers in order to aid their access”.'

I know it sounds hard hearted, and I guess it is, but Social Security killed the extended family. Maybe it needed to happen, but loss of large extended families falls out from Social Security.

Lucien: that 15 weeks, still more than allowed in most of Europe's liberal states

I always find it interesting that liberal European countries are so often held up as an example of how nations should operate in the economic sphere (carefully ignoring that these nations are generally small in both size and population, and ethnically homogeneous), but it’s crickets when these same countries put restrictions on certain behaviors that our culture warriors find objectionable.
