"Virtual Rope Line with Vice President Joe Biden."

I went looking to see what Biden might be doing — just on my own going to his YouTube channel. I see this went up yesterday. I don't know how these people were chosen or how the editing was done (other than that they missed the opportunity to edit out Biden's touching his nose with his hand at 0:58):

Honestly, I didn't make it past 1:29. I felt I got it and there was nothing more to get. The idea is that Joe Biden is a nice person who takes the time to show empathy.

Okay. I scrolled to the end, and he made pitch for continuing this "ropeline." I was told I could participate if I went to joebiden.com/ropeline — but you have to "Sign Up to Join a Future Virtual Ropeline," and that requires you to give not only your name and email address but also your mobile phone number. I'm not doing that, but then again there is no way I would want to appear on a YouTube split screen talking to a political candidate, though I'll concede that Joe Biden comes across as a nonthreatening interlocutor.

Joe will always find a way to get enough virtual rope line to hang himself ...

Bracketed material by me.

It all makes Slow Joe's VP pick extremely important. The possibilities that the former VP will outlast his first term is zero.

They almost succeed in making him appear non-creepy.

Almost.

Just don't ask him about Hunter or any of the other topics that set him off.

He talks about how many miles he rode on Amtrak as though it's some sort of achievement!

I don't believe he remembers that woman's mother, he only remembered what Amtrak is.

You didn't have to give a real name with the "create an avatar" thing, but I can see why they would want some personal info for you to talk to the man. Have to do some screening.

The music is really loud and distracting.

This lying dog faced pony soldier does not want to be challenged to a pushup duel or informed as to the differential IQ values between the two of us. He would probably poke his finger into the webcam and call me out.

You mean "incoherent" interlocutor, right?

He could demonstrate his commitment to getting supplies out there by telling us how much he has spent to get the job done. Maybe even use some of his campaign funds.

Sure it isn't a "Grope Line" meant to keep Biden back, not the crowd?

Biden is nice, and you'll need to feel that way because after he wins, we work for Biden.

The Republicans are putting Blacks back in chains, but Joe Biden is throwing them a virtual rope line.

Buckwheathikes said...

There's an underlying message here that I think is probably missed. If you've run a political campaign before, or covered political campaigns as a member of the press, you'll know that a candidate's time is very limited.

And so, what you have your candidate DO with his time sends a message about what insiders of the campaign are thinking.

The message here is that Joe Biden is attempting to increase engagement with his own base. And you only do that if you're seeing internally that the base isn't engaged.

That's how he's spending his time. The only people likely to "sign up for a virtual rope-line" are people who are already voting for Joe Biden. So, the candidate is spending precious time trying to shore up his engagement with his own voters.

Not a good sign. It indicates that the internal campaign staff believes - and have convinced Biden to believe - they don't have enough engagement with their own voting base. There are an almost infinite number of things this time could have been spent on widening the base or attempting to appeal to crossover voters; but they chose this instead.

Not non-threatening to Tara Reade, whom the Media has ignored. F*ck #Metoo now. They are a bunch of hypocrites. Wheres NOW?? Where's the Pussy hat brigade?? I guess only women who accuse Republicans can be believed.

His campaign grows more pathetic by the day.

Would anyone watching this think, here's the man who can lead us out of the present crisis, while also facing down our adversaries in China, Russia, Iran, etc.?

This video, in a strange way, reminds me of Jeb Bush's ads. They were supposed to make Jeb look endearing and charming, but he looked like a goofball who was out of his league. And Trump tore him to pieces, which is what, most likely, is going to happen to Biden. (I hesitate only because who knows if Biden will even last for the campaign. And Trump could still lose if the virus resurges and/or the economy can't be revived.)

A trip down memory lane.

He seems like he'd make a really nice, encouraging, and compassionate ex-president (a bit like Jimmy Carter). But, oh, the crap we'd have to live through for four years to get to that point...No thanks.

Nigel Meadows, the daughter of the Amtrak conductor Biden does not remember:

“I’ve always heard about you throughout my years and the kind of person you were...errrr ..and still are today.”

Good news though—looks like Joe is out of his basement and now in a living room somewhere with a bookcase behind him.

Did Obama do this sort of thing? I think he did at least one Reddit AMA.

Why doesn't Biden just do an AMA or two? Why this video thing? And that's really a rhetorical question, because I'm pretty sure he wants to control which questions get asked (*cough* Hunter *cough*).

I believe you said that you watch all the task force briefing yet you don’t have the stomach or time to watch Obama’s 12 min endorsement of Biden or more than 90 seconds of Biden’s five min video. Yet you post on both. Doesn’t sound like cruel neutrality to me.

At 3:18 Joe says "But we have to keep pushing, and that's what I'm doing everyday to make sure that we get this equipment out to the first responders."

Who is he pushing? What equipment does he have control over? What role is he claiming in the pandemic response?

Is this some sort of fantasy football thing?

Maybe William Henry Harrison or Zachary Taylor? The Whigs believed that Congress should lead and presidents follow. Harrison and Taylor turned out to be true place holders, since they both died in office early into their terms.

And of course, Biden is a lot like Hindenburg, the aged general who was the only person Germany could agree on for leader ... or the blimp. Neither story ended well.
