High-quality trash talk from Schwarzenegger: "I only realized I was kicked when I saw the video like all of you. I’m just glad the idiot didn’t interrupt my Snapchat."

Would hardly call it "trash talk." An elderly man was viciously assaulted for no reason. An assault that in less fit men might have broken his back or caused him to hit his head and die.

Responding to that is not "trash talk."

Arnold wants to be thought of as a tough guy. He came up with a great response. On Facebook, I saw somebody criticizing Arnold for lying. I'm calling it "trash talk" because, of course, he's "lying." He's lying for the effect of humiliating and demeaning the person who attacked him. That's what trash talk is, and I mean it in a positive way. You're talking like the prosecutor of the the guy, but AS doesn't want you to see him as an elderly man who could have died!

I've deleted comments on the non-issue of whether the kick was intentional. It obviously was. Don't talk about that.

Block, with a redirection of force, which will send the attacker into a window, door, or unoccupied space.

Can we talk about how this is a common ambush attack used by black youths, or is that why you are deleting speech about it to begin with?

I'm surprised a bit that he wasn't better protected, though the bodyguard(?) responded well and quickly.

Good on Arnold!

Correct. He's calling the attack feeble by claiming he thought it was just a jostle.

Tis but a scratch.

It seems like a bodyguard fail to me. Why weren't they watching the crowd for something just like this?

And the big deal is? Arnold is the master of trash talk. The film Pumping Iron goes into how he was constantly trash talking and psyching out his competition even though they all trained together every day at the original Gold's Gym in Venice Beach and outwardly appeared to be friends.

It is. I'll bet whoever dropped the ball got called in the morning. Not only did his client get ambushed, he had to deflect PR attention back to why he was there in the first place.

I'd like to report my witness to media promoting this horrible vision.

Saw it first in the morning, tweeted by a great guy I follow on Twitter.

It was ghastly to me and I went searching news for more, glad he was heroic as usual in his recovery and response.

The weirdness is this: hours later when I got on twitter, that same link was my top item, and when I refreshed it would not update to the next thousandth item that should scroll down every second.

it was not because someone else I follow had retweeted it or liked it or what not

It was just hanging on my site the several next times I checked in.

Weird. AND wonderful delight for those who hate all things republican.

creepiness, 21st c

Not sure there's a lie in there. Thought he was jostled, (realized it had been something deliberate like a push), only later saw it was a kick. If you're struck from behind between the shoulder blades your first thought will be that you were pushed.

It was trash talking, it obvious it was a flying kick.

Not sure if the bodyguard deflected it, simple physics he should have been bowled over. Unless he always has an incredible stance.

Anthony said...

That's kind of minor trashing, IMO. The kick just jostled him; not like he was knocked to the ground or anything. He's still a sturdy fellow.

Nice to see someone downplaying an assault for a change. I mean, an actual assault, not a fakey "he hurt my feeeeeeeelings" "assault".

"Someone jostled my back"

but forget the trash talk-- what about "Someone helpme-- I need a Lamborghini!"?

Didn't rock his world, didn't look like much of a hit. Watch AS's feet. No Biggee.

Arnold looks in pretty good shape for a seventy one year old guy.

There was obvious intent in the attack.

The execution was very poor. His leg actually acted as a spring to reduce the force of the attack buffering the momentum of his charge. Jumping kicks are generally ineffective. He could have done a lot more damage with a different attack.

You can also tell the difference between someone who trains and someone who doesn't when you fight them. The difference here was pretty obvious.

Different angle showing more force.

It looks like the attacker jumped too soon and hit Arnold with his legs already fully extended. What you want is to hit with your legs just finishing extending so you hit with both feet stomping on the target.

I watched that 30 or so years ago. It would be fun to watch it again.

Jostled implies physical contact that's about pushing through to get where you want to go — not an attack intended to hurt another person. Schwarzenegger's trash talk was that he didn't realize someone was attempting to hurt him. It seemed like the rough and tumble of a crowd. That seems very unlikely. It's a "lie" in the sense of saying "it's only a scratch" when you've been stabbed.

I looked up "trash talk" in the OED:

"Speech which condemns a person as trash (see trash n.1 4); (Sport) ostentatiously insulting or boastful rhetoric delivered with the intention of demoralizing, intimidating, or humiliating an opponent; (also, in extended use) any derisory or boastful statement or statements.

1981 Washington Post (Nexis) 24 Sept. f1 Folks think Leonard has gotten above his raisings, moving out to a mansion in the country, and..has forgotten other black men... Mike McDaniel would fight you before agreeing to such trash talk.
1990 Sports Illustr. 4 June 48/3 He also amplified Janney's nightmare with a steady stream of trash talk and a maniacal grin.
2000 Time 18 Dec. 43/1 The five..conservatives..voted to issue the stay... The dissenters concluded that the majority had ‘acted unwisely’—which passes for serious trash talk on the high court."

Arnold’s former trash talk would have mentioned the Girly Man. Now he would be the hateable heteronormative white man if he uttered that. But Snapchat trashtalk is for girly men.

Umm,toxic masculinity. Ahnuld here is denying the victim xer victimhood. When xe was assaulted xe should have blamed the patriarchy.instead xe made light of it. Toxically masculine.

I just want to know what the heck is wrong with Arnold's face. He looks like he is half made-up for some horror movie. An unfinished man.

This should happen to Schwarzenegger and all libs, progs, Democrats, and their traitorous allies. This son of a bitch oughta be locked up for his part in despoiling the state of California. Fuck him.

I didn't see any deflection. I would guess that since A.S. (obviously) still trains rigorously he's maintained incredible balance just to keep from being injured during training.

On first view, its seems like a crash. on second view - I guess it looks more intentional. Sorry!

Now - Fen's link to Bill Burr - funny and thought provoking.
