Ugliest Cleopatra I've ever seen.

Best was the woman who played Cleo on the BBC drama Rome.

Iowahawk's Substitution is indispensable when reading articles like this, based on anonymous sources: you substitute "mysterious gypsy woman" for "anonymous source". E.g.:

"According to a mysterious gypsy woman familiar with Comey's thinking..."
"Three mysterious gypsy women who are highly placed in the Justice Department..."
"...a mysterious gypsy woman in close contact with top staffers..."

It gives you a far more realistic feel for the truth level and likely basis of such articles.

Welcome to Vegas! I stayed at that Nobu Hotel right there inside Cesar's. It was very nice. A clean, luxurious, Japanese style with big rooms, big beds and big TVs. Nice sound system too. Didn't try the in-house signature resturant. It was very expensive, and if I'm gonna give the casino that much, I want at least the chance of hitting it big. A friend won $10K the other night gambling. The most I ever won in one night was $1100, but I don't bet very big. I mostly do it for the free drinks. I'm ghetto, but bourgy ghetto.

Wouldn't it be nice, wherever these mafias are, if we could break through the omerta? That's their strength, that they don't talk. Whenever you're talking, you're losing. The most powerful utter the fewest words.

Then why didn't they do anything about it?

Laura,
I just looked at Wikipedia. It omits those murders! She ruled jointly, the later alone is what it says!

That the best analogy I've read yet. It's so close to the truth it's hardly an analogy.

Just made my first and last trip to Vegas last week. Husband was speaking at a conference and my youngest and I went out to join him for a few days. Hated every minute of being inside the casinos ~ I had forgotten how horrible indoor smoking is. I have gotten very unused to it and was embarrassed to be a princess about it, but was having continual moderate respiratory trouble and felt lightheaded a LOT. We had our anniversary dinner at the Bacchanal there at Caesar's.

I did enjoy the general spectacle of the buildings themselves, from the outside; and from an anthropological perspective the party atmosphere was interesting to behold. However, way WAY more fun than Vegas itself were our side trips to Rhyolite, Death Valley and the Hoover Dam. Those were awesome!

We made lots and lots and lots of Beavis and Butthead Do America jokes, especially when we walked under that very Cleopatra.

I watched an excellent movie tonight on TCM: The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, a 1921 silent film about an aristocratic family in WWI whose spoiled and unprincipled son realizes his duty and joins the army.

Yipes. Since TrumpWorld likes Twitter so much, and since the cultural issues have such a place of prominence, I thought I'd just leave this right here:

https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-apos-chief-staff-went-042059833.html

"John Kelly appeared Monday on the first night of Laura Ingraham's new show, The Ingraham Angle. When asked about taking down Confederate monuments, he defended Robert E. Lee and then said 'the lack of an ability to compromise led to the Civil War.'"

From the story: "More and more, the picture of Kelly as the 'adult in the room' is looking ridiculous."

I cite this, after having been critical of the move on the part of social liberals at Christ Church-Alexandria to remove the plaques honoring George Washington and Robert E. Lee. Of course, there's an intelligent way to go about that defense without effectively suggesting that maybe a little slavery might have been okay. Isn't this the basic problem with so much of the Trump Administration? Just a bunch of inexperienced, clumsy, political amateurs; bumbling their way into one dumb sideshow after another. Or maybe this was all planned, to get people talking about something other than indictments.

When did Kelly say anything about keeping slavery?

How about this? One compromise might have been the end of slavery with the industrialized Northern states contributing to the transition of Southern agriculture through targeted higher taxes or temporary trade restrictions on agricultural imports?

Is that not a compromise which ends slavery without a war?

Seriously Chuck, you really beclown yourself at times.

Cleopatra was extremely inbred. It was Deliverance on the Nile. The family tree for the Egyptian royal family at the time resembled more of a snarled thorn bush. If Rome had not been propping them up, the Ptolemy dynasty would have collapsed long before Cleopatra romanced herself some external genetic material.

As for flying boobs here, I think this is an excellent example of the mermaid problem. She may be hot from the waist up, but there is no waist down!

The book was a choice on my HS summer reading list, and I think I liked it, but I don't remember much about the son. The family home was in the path of the Hun, and the father ended up behind the lines IIRC.

First time I was there I remember seeing a row of three theatre seats abandoned on the dry ground.

How very striking. I loved trying to puzzle out the random pieces of metal strewn about. The middens of elderly tin cans were a hoot as well.

You know how as you are traveling up the hill toward the old train station, and you look off to your right and down a bit, there is a cabin in fairly good repair? I peered into that window and just as my eyes adjusted a piece of lath on the floor jumped a few inches into the air and settled a good foot and a half away. I'm sure my footsteps had just startled a large snake or other creature, which then disappeared under the floorboards, but it was still quite spooky. I don't believe in ghosts, but I don't not believe in ghosts either.

My other favorite sight was the railroad light casually lying on the ground beside the station.

Killing inconvenient siblings, parents and other relatives was a fine old Macedonian royal tradition that the Ptolemies merely perpetuated.

Brother-sister incest, on the other hand, Ptolemy Philadelphos borrowed from the Egyptians.

It may be four hours in the air, but more than double that to cover airport stuff, which I hate.
