Taking a picture of a water droplet and, later, seeing the inverted tree.

I couldn't really see what I was getting in the rain in the Arb today, but when I saw this on the computer screen, I was truly delighted:

This WI arb seems nice.

What Seattle's Arboretum may lack re Turkeys and rain, it makes up for w/ beauty and more rain, imho.

Amazing resolution for a digital camera. And focus as well.

The droplet; one tenuous orb.

It appears we're retreating back to the old carrot-and-stick approach with North Korea.

But I voted for two orbs, two big ones.

I should have used a tripod and tried harder.

I will take water drops more seriously in the future.

It is a pretty nice camera, but I have not put enough effort into learning to use it well.

I work diligently on this blog in a way, but I'm also, simultaneously, a lazy bastard.

Do all women under the age of 40 sound like frogs with adenoids? So tiresome!

That picture is fantastic. Not just the upside down tree in the droplet, but the colors and composition of the crop. Wonderful.

Very ungracious. This horse you received has great dental media and message, trust me.

The opportunity cost would have all been sunk.

BECAUSE THE MILK HAS SPILLED!

"Sister Anaclete was the epitome of gentleness and patience. She was fair, and she was young – she could not have been much over twenty when I came into the fourth grade – and she was beautiful with a completely feminine beauty which was enriched by humility. All of us in the three grades which were her charge loved her, and I remember that when, in the recesses of my mind I thought of angels, each angel wore the face of Sister Anaclete, and walked as Sister Anaclete did, and talked as Sister Anaclete did, which was not surprising, for it was impossible to imagine that any angel could be superior in any way, not more gentle, not more comely, not kinder nor more patient.
But none of these attributes was Sister Anaclete’s special attribute for me, for it was she who opened up to me the world of creative art.

Water droplet is the coolest capture !! Being a sack of lazy bones is very healthy for the brain. Long Live Althouse !!

How many atoms are in a droplet of water?
If the droplet is 1/100 cc of water, that is more than 10^20 H2O atoms.
So that little droplet lens consists of more than a hundred billion billion water atoms.
Holy cow atoms are tiny things!

Some poet once said that haze was microscopic droplets of water, reflecting and refracting images of the sun. Billions and billions and billions of little suns, right there in front of your eyes.

Line up two raindrops and you get a telescope.

H2O does not come in atoms, but molecules.
