Miley sings Dylan...

... and says something about Trump...
"There is nowhere I would rather be than in New York City playing this song with the Roots, and being on Jimmy Fallon with our host, who is always so much fun, except when you're Donald Trump. And then don't even think about messing with my hair, I'm serious."
... without taking a position on Trump.

Well played.

Setting it up so Fallon cannot muss up Hillary's hair.

Hillary's thing for Monday has already been filmed. The bit he does with her has him treating her like she's contagious, putting on a mask and using hand sanitizers.

He can touch Trump, but not her.

I like that Miley gets naked a lot.

Miley Cyrus really does have mastery of her natural talent. I imagine it takes a certain amount of self discipline and training to sing like that. It makes you wonder how she can be so self indulgent and feckless in other areas of her life. Maybe her genius is restricted to music. ............I respect her singing, but her speaking voice is kind of obnoxious.

The entertainment industry is trying by degrees to mend fences now that DJT is looking like the next President.

At least in that still, Miley Cyrus appears to be dressed and made up like a human being and a woman. Refreshing.

I'm sure Jimmy Fallon and Hillary Clinton are equally glad that Fallon will not be touching Clinton's bare flesh.

I am surprised to note that she can actually sing pretty well. Stupid song, though.

I was surprised by the lack of vocal fry. I thought that was the go to for pop gals.

When she isn't dressed up like a 4 year old and singing about her pet blow fish, she actually isn't half bad.

Miley more often takes a position that is not in good taste. Grinding it out so to speak.

Fabi said...

She's a surprisingly excellent vocalist. I also agree with Laslo.

Miley is a lot like Trump. Her style is a strong Scots Irish commoner who is marketing her brand to get rich. I bet she supports Trump secretly like so many others do .

Bonkti said...

Silly song, perhaps, sung like an adult.

" I bet she supports Trump secretly like so many others do ."

Friend, I believe you would lose that bet. If you're in show biz, and you secretly support a non-liberal candidate, you just say nothing if at all possible.

Now, how do we find out what is kept a secret?

Ha! Great find!

Too bad Althouse doesn't make a post of it.

Strong voice. Good pitch. Can't stand that fast, nervous vibrato. She's kind of cute.
What's the big deal?

Miley's ability to pull off the sexy Madonna/Gaga chanteuse had an even shorter sell-by date than her dad's Achy Breaky golf country moment. (Ann's got nuthin on Nature in the cruel neutrality department.)

Wonder if she has the chops to have a career as this kind of raw country/blues belter--its pretty hard on most woman's voice boxes.

Oh man..FTW..inadvertently. Maybe she can rock a kilt in her next PR phase.

When I watched the clip I noted the audience silence when she mentioned Trump. I pictured them looking at each other not sure how to react.

Think Ludacris was influnced by this Dylan tune?

"My outfit's ridiculous, in the club lookin' so conspicuous. And Rowl! These women all on the prowl, If ya hold da head steady, imma milk da cow!"

Right. It's important to suspend all critical thinking when it comes to the first crypto-fascist to come this close to the presidency. Either that, or I guess you really do fear the guy and think it's only right that everyone else should, too. I mean, how else could he win and stay in office!

walter said...

Based on her variable affect/accent, she does borrow from Madonna and maybe Hil..must still be "finding" her voice

R&B, maybe it's just refreshing to see an entertainer given a mic not rushing to inject their own politics into a performance.

Re: my 10:08 comment:

Once you've seen them naked how serious do you take them?

I looked online for Hume nude but nothing of worth. As it were.

Althouse, listen here for a topic:

Once a man sees a woman naked he will never listen to her as closely as then.

We always knew conservatives were bluffing when talked about the "sanctity of marriage."

Once a man sees a woman naked he will never listen to her as closely as then.

Has a woman ever seen you naked? And taken you less seriously as a result?

Perhaps you are projecting.

This why a stripper can convince a man in the club to fork over serious money for no real contact.

Once they leave the club she is clothed and then The Illusion is gone.

But she now has a few hundred in her purse.

How the World works. With Capitalism.

Communist strippers suck.

I've never claimed to be conservative.

I've never claimed to be anything.

I am words that can be molded into whatever worldview you have.

But I will be a step ahead of you.

I am a step ahead of everybody.

Yes.

All the Dignity you can Foster on That First Date goes away the First Time you are Naked.

Rhythm and Balls said...

All the Dignity...

Ah, dignity. What a false concept.

If you slept with a hot woman (or an attractive man) you would still find them just as incredible afterwards. Just in a different way.

Proximity to beauty, even intimate proximity to it, doesn't make it any less beautiful. Apparently "dignity" must be a quality of artificial distancing.

Laslo Spatula said...

"Ah, dignity. What a false concept."

I prefer False Dignity to being Willfully Obtuse.

Of course, much of my humor derives from the fact that few of us have a Dignity that registers on even a sensitive scale.

I will include myself in that.

"If you slept with a hot woman (or an attractive man) you would still find them just as incredible afterwards. Just in a different way."

'A different way'? So you are saying that something DOES change. Glad to have you aboard. The change IS funny, and one of the best in-jokes a couple has.

R&B, you are obviously a smart guy or gal.

But:

Do you think anyone seriously ENJOYS reading you?

Those who disagree with you scan your words just to return volley.

Those that agree with you just want to High-Five the Pontification.

Let go of the Dialectic.

Have laughs from whatever direction they come.

I am Laslo.

This country has enough entertainers. You will never be able to compete with even the most modestly successful of them.

What it lacks, however, is is the intelligence and will and concern to overcome the same problems that it still considers serious and threatening enough to do something about.

So maybe it's you who needs to let go of the nonsense-as-the-only-form-of-entertainment dialectic. Or the entertainment-as-a-replacement-for-action dialectic.

I am R&B

True, she lost to Obama last time, so technically, this is closer.

Guess you managed to wash the Hillary blue pill down again, R&B. Think it'll stay down this time?

Jon Burack said...

I really don't get any of the jokes here. But I don't have any inclination to go back and try to figure them out either.

I like the song a lot - not so much the singer. The last time I saw her, I could not stand the sight. This time, she's a bit better. But Dylan sang it better in 1962. Maybe because he was so much younger then?

I didn't take any pill. I just don't need to be for anyone, to realize how bad someone else is. Nope, I never took any kind of groupthink pill like that.

R&B, I do apologize. I saw you tearing into Hillary on the next thread. That said, crypto-fascist is nonsense.
