I went to buy more stuff for my new flower bed but couldn't find anything because there were too many.
Well, I think this fits the thread. The local TV news tonight had a story about a guy in Las Cruces, who has a license plate reading "WETBACK." He says he has had a for 25 years, likes it, nobody has objected to it before, and he does not want to give it up. The plate is on a Porsche, so he may just have the money to resist the MVD, which is now trying to recall the plate. The guy looks to be at least in his sixties, is a good-humored person, and says he came to New Mexico when he was 19, and people then started to call him "Wetback," and he thought it was funny, so that is why he chose the plate.
I had to look up what wetback meant. Sign of the times. PC, media, lefties..
My garden has been the biggest casualty in my hunt for growth at work. Doing the rat race but glad to have an intellectually challenging job as I grow older.
I mean this in the most non-partisan way possible, but after Kerry ran into the door going into 10 Downing Street, how hard was it to not joke as he was leaving, "Hey, don't let the door hit you on the way out..."?
Beautiful! This is my first year with a flower garden. (And one tomato plant. We have so many critters around I didn't want to bother with a vegetable garden, but I couldn't resist the prospect of at least a few home-grown tomatoes, provided I get to them before the chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, deer and groundhogs.) I did just dahlias and gladiolus, because that's all I could buy at the store before I exceeded the attention span of my children. The dahlias are blooming, but I'm a little underwhelmed by them. I'm sure I did something wrong -- I'm only getting two blooms per plant. But we've already gotten one early gladiolus, and it was spectacular. The rest are going to bloom any day now, and I'm more excited about it than is reasonable.Any suggestions for easy-to-grow blooms for a new gardener in zone 3/4? I'd love to have a nice cutting garden, someday, and always have a vase of flowers on the table in the summertime.
Received an urgent email from the firearms academy today- MA attorney general has taken it upon herself to ban 'assault' style weapons. The academy is staying open until 11:59pm tonight to sell their ARs and AKs and semi auto shotguns (!?).
Another unconventional character is President Erdogan of Turkey, who seems to be preparing to declare himself Sultan Recep I.This is much the most important news of the week though completely buried in the convention hoopla.
Sarah: Dahlias are slow to establish--don't give up. Ours (in much warmer zone 7) didn't really get going until the fourth year. Even our allium took three to look as good as the one in the photo.
And coreopsis is a great, easy choice for a cutting flower. The more you cut, the more they bloom.
Milkweeds are good and lilies of various kinds - they grow well and look good. Milkweed attracts butterflies. When I take pictures of flowers with a cone shape or a round shape then sometimes I put them floating in a glass bowl with water up to the brim. And try different angles trying to get the form such as hooking the stem over the edge and trying to shoot up along the stem. Or floating them upside down. The ripples always look good anyhow.
The random civilian fireworks following July 4 are finally silent tonight. My dog is very pleased.
Ivanka is totally hot. I'm talking aesthetics, not convention politics. On another note: My garden is looking a little ragged. The tomatoes are looking good, the grapes not so hot. The basil is good. The string beans not so good. The jalapeños will make or break it.
So your saying these comments should be...unconventional?
Don't look for the NRA to soften their stance anytime soon. In the most recent election for the board of directors, Oliver North and Ted Nugent received the most votes. I love the NRA.
i have not yet made up my mind on which side to choose in the Kanye West/Taylor Swift dispute. Not all the facts have been revealed yet. In cases like this one should not rush to judgment........I do take exception to the fact that Taylor is being criticized for not openly endorsing Hillary. I presume she's staying mum on the subject not because she's a Trump supporter but because she wants to continue to sell records to Trump supporters. Trump supporters are probably a big part of her fan base.. But she's being pressured to come out for Hillary. Katy Perry cane out for Hillary. Why can't Taylor? The pressure mounts. She must soon make an agonizing decision.
Sarah I am from around where you are. In my garden I have lot of different colored Phlox, nice fragrance and deer resistant. I like hydrangeas, rhododendrons, hastas ...
In the old days we could joke about "wetbacks," and the kids in Palomas, Mexico went to high school in Columbus, NM, and we all knew about that and did not mind, but those days are gone forever.
