"... written for an illiterate servant."

Cash registers at fast-food joints are headed that way. No more math, no literacy.

Until Gutenberg's printing press made written education possible for poor folks outside Monastic scribes learning Latin, that was how everybody had to do it.

What a great artist. With a few brief strokes he brings life and vitality into the banal genre of grocery lists. His grocery list is so much more life affirming and joyous than Rembrandt whose palette had too much red meat and, closer to our own day, Hockney's fascination with avocados detracts from his importance as an artist.

Assuming a new grocery list at least every few days, think of all the Michelangelo original artwork lost to us today.

OTOH, I understand DaVinci ordered his groceries using charades. So no great loss there.
