Yet more post Boston bombing thoughts.

1. Police have deferred on responding to why a dog was not used to track the bleeding terrorist with stating that "all options were carefully studied".

2. The terrorist hiding in the boat is now know to have been unarmed and seen without a weapon in his hand or carrying anything when fleeing.

3. Police refuse to say how many shots were fired at the boat.......or missed the boat and hit nearby houses, trees, sheds. Only that there was "sympathetic gunfire" where one shot thought to have been from the terrorist started a cascade Diallou fashion. "Evidence related to the capture, including rounds expended, the boat itself, is being studied and may not be released prior to trial".

Lovely shot, Madame.

I can only hope it was warm and sunny when you took it.

And the big question in Baaston is, if there was a third bomber, where is he?

That magnolia came and went in our area couple of weeks ago.

Lovely "This image or video is currently unavailable" notice--in eight languages, no less. It's inspiring!

Chip Ahoy said...

Huh. They say la la foto está disponible. It's not available so I get a message in different languages, but the foto IS there behind the message of the foto not being there. So lies, all lies. And do you you know why they say la instead of el even though foto ends with o and now they don't match? Because foto is short for fotografía and la matches that. That's why. Plus apparently fotos are feminine.

Sorry. I tweaked the pic in iPhoto and that automatically updates the image and changes the code.

Fixed.

A previous report stated that the police on one side of the boat fired blanks and flash-bang grenades intending to disorient the suspect, and the cops on the other side thought the suspect was firing at them and let fly with everything they had.

I think the "authorities" are going to direct our attention to every "squirrel" they can think of around this story.

As my whimsy leads me.. said...

Here in centratl Ohio, the magnolias have already faded, but the redbuds are at peak bloom. This has been the stragest Spring ever.

Hey Althouse tell Hobbs..............Meade that the propane thing works really good on weeds. The only ones I couldn't kill were Sheep Sorrel.
Thank you Hobbs.

And we want these to be the only people with firearms?
Oy!

My crab apple tree did not put out any flowers this year. Very strange and disappointing. I wonder if the guy who helps with my garden pruned it at the wrong time -- he did it at the end of the fall after they had their fruit and all. this is what they looked like last year. Not a single bud/flower this year.

Our magnolia hasn't bloomed yet. It was about 4 weeks past blooming at this time last year. Gotta love interannual variability.

I would like to propose a variation on our hostess' Great Gatsby project. Which was a great idea which died in part because of my insipid participation.

Let's take one famous sentence, and either discuss which famous couples would fit, or our hostess could suggest a different couple each day and we could thrash it out yay and nay.

The sentence is: They were careless people, Tom and Daisy - they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made . . . .

You replace the names of the couple and substitute whatever for "money" if you have to - power or priveledge come to mind.

Picking couples for which it is not apt may be as interesting as our choices for whom it is. I'll start us off with what I think may be a surprise.

I do not think this sentence works for Bill and Hillary.

CWJ, that one is my favorite sentence ever in Gatsby, precisely for the reason you mention and I actually did use that sentence to make my point with a couple (well, one of them) I was having a disagreement with.

CWJ said...

pm317,

Exactly, but what makes it work for me is not "money" but carelessness.

I think this is a theme that could have legs. If we are honest with ourselves then it is not exclusively a right left thing. Of course, it is all up to our hostess whether it could be a good theme.

"My crab apple tree did not put out any flowers this year."

That's not surprising — many crabapples (and other tree species, as well) have a biennial flowering/fruiting cycle. Ours produces heavily one year, then just a few flowers the next, then heavy again... however late frosts can mess with the results also, killing off the flowers even in "heavy" years.

pm317 said...

CWJ, I agree about it being carelessness than money.. what I get from that sentence is total disregard for others that not even ordinary carelessness will buy. It is something more insidious than that and what binds that couple together that they wreck havoc and hurt for someone else and then slink away into their comfort of togetherness as if nothing bad ever happened because of them.

Thanks, Paco.. I do remember the ebb and flow but this year, nothing..zero :(

So, anyone else watching Vikings on the History Channel?

Good stuff. Great production values. Great cast. Good story.

Folks talking about Odin.

Everything a person might like in a show.

Like some celebrity on the front page of a magazine!

Was the flower too fat?

Was it even originally a magnolia?

Moonlight, moss and magnolias just out side my window. Throw in a little Moonlight Serenade by the Glen Miller Orchestra and you're good to go.

It looked dark on the blog. I always tweak the photos before uploading. I just needed to retweak.

This magnolia looks like it should come South for a spell of holidays.

What kind of magnolia is it? What geographical range has it? It's beautiful! Sorry, couldn't keep the gardener part of me buried.
