"Stick with me, Ann," Barack Obama emails.

"Ann -- I don't want to lose this election."
Not because of what losing would mean for me -- Michelle and I will be fine no matter what happens.
Okay. Be careful. You know the reason many of us women feel inclined to stick with you is because we don't want you to have to feel bad. We don't want to hurt your feelings. We don't want you to think that we didn't think you were good enough.

But if it's all the same to you... well, then...

It's like your boyfriend is saying to you he could stay or go, it's all the same to him, but he doesn't want to hurt you. What girl doesn't say then get out so I can have someone with passion for this job?

I've never given a dime to either national party (I donate to local candidates, not to parties) but in the '08 elections someone signed my email address up for both parties, and I've gotten ALL the fundraising emails from both ever since. Guess which party hits me up at least three times a day, and has sounded increasingly and exponentially more desperate the last few months?

Hint: It's not the GOP, that only sends me fundraising appeals once or twice a week.

Don't you want to be a good woman? A woman who is caring, and in with the in-crowd?

Still sounds desperate.

For God's sake, Althouse, think of those poor people, left to shiver in the cold if Obama loses!

Too cool to want your vote.

"Vote for me. Not because I want the job or anything. Of course I don't care about stuff like that. But you know, if it's not me, it's that wacky square, so hey, why not? Vote for me, and I'll take the job for you."

I'm hurt. I didn't get a "stick with me" personal e-mail from Obama. Of course maybe the fact that I've promptly tossed 40 or so of his avatars in the spam folder may have had something to do with it.

Mary, Louise, Sam, Joe, Jim, Dave, Frank, George etc all showed up unannounced and uninvited in mye-mail in box bearing tidings from Obama. He must have spent millions of dollars on hie e-mail campaign. All of it went straight into the Spam can.

The email made me think of the old song "Knock On Wood":

"I don't want to lose this good thing that I got
'Cause if I do, I will surely, surely lose a lot.
'Cause your love is better than any love I know.
It's like thunder, lightning,
the way you love me is frightening.
I'd better knock, on wood, baby."

Anonymous said...

Needy pretending to be cool. How can you possibly resist?

Anonymous said...

I got that email too. It has quite the touching ending:

I believe in you. If you stick with me, and if we fight harder than ever for the next two weeks, I truly believe we can't lose.

Obama believes in me!

If one follows Althouse's boyfriend frame, it becomes creepy, like James Wood mind-effing Sharon Stone in "Casino."

Now there you are;
Yes, there's that face,
That face that somehow I trust.
It may embarrass you to hear me say it,
But say it I must, say it I must:
You have the cool, clear
Eyes of a seeker of wisdom and truth;
Yet there's that upturned chin
And that grin of impetuous youth.
Oh, I believe in you.
I believe in you.

I hear the sound of good, solid judgment
Whenever you talk;
Yet there's the bold, brave spring of the tiger
That quickens your walk.
Oh, I believe in you.
I believe in you.

And when my faith in my fellow man
All but falls apart,
I've but to feel your hand grasping mine
And I take heart; I take heart

To see the cool, clear
Eyes of a seeker of wisdom and truth;
Yet, with the slam-bang tang
Reminiscent of gin and vermouth.
Oh, I believe in you.
I believe in you.

Yes, but the liberal media still love him and they will fight for him. Now that it is becoming obvious to the liberal media sycophants that Obama might actually lose the election, we can expect dirty attacks on Romney's religion and who knows what else. I know its going to be ugly. Botton line -- Romney by a landslide.

The Gallup likely voters are sticking with their big Romney lead for the moment. Obama moved up 1 today but he's till 5 points behind and well below 50%.

Might I suggest this little ditty for the Althouse Ipod shuffle:

Those times I waited for you seem so long ago
I wanted you far too much to ever let you go
You know you never got by "I feel it too"
And I guess I never could stand to lose
It's such a pity to say

Goodbye to you
Goodbye to you

Could I have loved someone like the one I see in you
I remember the good times baby now, and the bad times too
These last few weeks of holding on
The days are dull, the nights are long
Guess it's better to say

Goodbye to you
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to you

'Cause baby it's over now
No need to talk about it
It's not the same
My love for you's just not the same
And my heart, and my heart
And my heart can't stand the strain
And my love, and my love
And my love won't stand the pain
And my heart, and my heart
And my heart can't stand the strain
And my love, and my love
And my love...

Goodbye to you
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to you

Now, could I have loved someone like the one I see in you
Yeah, I remember the good times baby now, and the bad times too
These last few weeks of holding on
The days are dull, the nights are long
Guess it's better to say

Goodbye to you
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to you

Goodbye baby
So long darling
Goodbye to you

Do you really believe that many women are sticking with Obama simply because they don't want him to FEEL BADLY? Is that why YOU, a highly-educated tenured professor, are still apparently thinking of voting for Obama?

Yeah, never mind the skyrocketing national debt, a shambolic foreign policy, an economy that is still in the toilet, a ridiculous unemployment rate, etc.

Seriously?

The "Boyfriend, soul mate" label fits.
In the sense that if we examine couples where one end of the pair is far less attractive, accomplished, wealthy, not given a great personality and wonder why....
The answer usually comes down to a person that is perceptive and highly skilled at manipulation and pushing the right buttons.

Giving all your love to just one man

But if you love him, you'll forgive him
Even though he's hard to understand
And if you love him, oh be proud of him
'Cause after all he's just a man.
Stand by your man, give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely.
Stand by your man, and show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can.

Obama's email is predicated upon the belief that *we, the masses* won't be fine if he loses - but he and Michelle will be.

He presumes an awful lot about those he sent the email to as he emotionally manipulate voters.

If you won't voters and believe in *yourself*, wouldn't you just keep hammering out your platform and principles - because isn't that what we are voting for? Or at least supposed to be voting for? Not some lost love, hurt feelings, and school boy heartache of regret. Geez.

I'm not.

I want Zero, Michelle and Norah to cry together. That would make me happy. Why can't I be happy.

Mitt won't make me happy, but, I admit, if Zero, Michelle and Norah cry, that would be worthwhile.

Romney needs 13 EV from this group of current Obama leaners:

IA (6) MI (16)
NV (6) NH (4)
OH (18) PA (20)
WI (10)

Pretty doable, I think. Probably Ohio will do it. But I like WI + NH too.

One of my ex girlfriends, a socially liberal but religiously conservative pro-Zionist Jew, bleeding heart special needs teacher, who has never voted for a Republican for any office, volunteered to me this morning that she made up her mind last night during the debate; She will wear a long trench coat, big hat and dark glasses and cast her vote for Mitt Romney.

Her two big issues are education and foreign policy. She thinks Romney will have a freer hand at reforming education (no teacher's union votesor $$$ to loose), and thinks Obama's foreign policy has been a disaster.

She also does not believe that R/R, even if they wanted to, have a chance in hell of making abortion illegal.

FWIW.

@Cedarford

From where I stood, young guys especially went completely insane for Obama in 2008. Young women were changing their vote from Hillary to Obama so their boyfriends would still think they were girlfriend material. It was a crush once-removed in that sense. I also saw a lot of older-end boomer guys interpret Obama as the deliverance of their youthful, civil rights-era selves. Anecdotal, but people who were closest to Obama in age seemed to have the most resistance. It appreciably lowered the chance of projection.

Ohio will do it. But I like WI + NH too.

(war-gaming the RCP Electoral map)
Assume FL+VA go red and PA+MI go blue. R/R then need OH and one of NH+NV+IA+CO to win.

If OH goes blue, then R/R needs WI+CO and one of NH+NV+IA or else WI+NV+IA to win.

If OH+WI go blue, then R/R need to run the table in NH+NV+IA+CO win outright, or all but NH to secure an EV tie (throwing it to House of Representatives). If one of NV+IA+CO go blue, O/B win.

R/R really need OH. Don't like the odds of R/R winning WI+2 without OH and forget it on the +4 without WI (I think IA and NV go blue regardless).

How can people have no feelings?
How can they ignore their friends?
Easy to be proud, easy to say no

Specially people who care about strangers
Who care about evil 'n social injustice
Do you only care about the bleedin' crowd?
How about a needed friend?
I need a friend

Bang! That's Barack, right there.
