Breitbart's last tweet.

"I called you a putz cause I thought you were being intentionally disingenuous. If not I apologize."

Last words: I apologize.

ADDED: At Drudge, across the top of the page:
DEAR READER: In the first decade of the DRUDGEREPORT Andrew Breitbart was a constant source of energy, passion and commitment. We shared a love of headlines, a love of the news, an excitement about what's happening. I don't think there was a single day during that time when we did not flash each other or laugh with each other, or challenge each other. I still see him in my mind's eye in Venice Beach, the sunny day I met him. He was in his mid 20's. It was all there. He had a wonderful, loving family and we all feel great sadness for them today... MDRUDGE
AND: Jonah Goldberg:
I’ve never known someone, perhaps with the exception of Drudge himself, who had more of a savant’s sense of media, old and new — but especially new. In the early days of the Drudge Report there was a lot of talk about how Drudge made the news, and that was often true. But he could only do that by understanding the news and how it worked at a visceral instinctive level. Matt saw this same gift in Andrew, which is why he hired him. The two of them changed the course of the massive river of news for literally billions of people. That’s no exaggeration, even venerable enterprises and institutions that despised the Drudge Report and pretended it didn’t exist had to change course because of it.

Citizen Breitbart.

I mentioned that earlier. It's a perfect tweet for his line of work:

'I hate liars. If you didn't lie and I was wrong, I apologize.'

Period. I love it. He was ready to rumble over what he believed was the truth, but didn't seem to want to fight for the sake of fighting. That's how I approach web debates:

I look for the truth. I THINK I'm right, but if you show that I'm wrong, I'll alter my view and keep fighting for THAT truth.' Perfect, if that was indeed his last tweet.

At times like this, I wonder why the great ones so often die so young.

RIP for one who changed the political debate, as few have, in such a short time on the national stage.

What sad news. I admired Andrew quite a bit. My sympathies to his family.

A hard charger, but a class act.

It must kill all the Lefties.

Petunia said...

How very sad for his family, especially his four children.

Unfortunately, edutcher, as indicated by a lot of the online chatter this a.m., a lot of the lefties are overjoyed that Breitbart is dead, and they're positively gloating.

Wonder how many of them have "coexist" bumper stickers?

A great American.

Last words: I apologize.

Yes, but it was a conditional phrase: I called you a putz cause I thought you were being intentionally disingenuous. If not I apologize.

If yes, then no apology. The facts behind Breitbart's tweet are of course of interest.

I apologize.

I've made the point here, too many times, that if you're not man enough to admit when you're wrong then, in my eyes, you're not a man and have no reason to be debating anything.

Many see me as partisan, which I am, but fairness counts. Being right - not just winning - counts. This is something the liberals don't get. They'll lie, cheat, steal - all that - to gain an advantage, but in the end, it'll undo everything you're working for when it's exposed. It always does. The only factor is time.

Andrew Breitbart was a very good man.

What do you think Beethoven's last tweet was?

phx: Those are certainly some thoughtful one liners. Pithy. Witty. Knee slappers.

Excellent last words.

Last in a particular medium anyway.

One hopes his last words will be something like that, indicative of good character. Think of how many last tweets consist of phrases like, "[Team name] sux!" or "[So and so] is a douche!" Or are otherwise undesirable. One would hate to be immortalized with the mundane, "I am eating a sandwich," or the narcissistic, "Look at my new pic!" Better, though not as good as Breitbart's type, would be foreshadowing tweets like, "Ahright! Headed out for a cave dive!" or "Canyon beautiful today. Time to enjoy the sunrise. Making coffee to take to the ledge."

Most last tweets though, I think, are probably comments about television.

Goldberg's comment just confirms my puzzlement over why he's co-editor of "THE" conservative magazine in the USA.

Like Bill Kristol, he's without wit and his writing style and thought nothing more B+.

Guess its WHO you know rather than WHAT you know.

rcocean,

I like Goldberg's writing style, though I don't think we'd get along in person (which is funny because, once he got over it, I think Glenn Reynolds and I would get along fabulously, though I can barely stand his writing sometimes.) Goldberg is usually to the point, he doesn't show off, and he's made me laugh on more than a few occasions. Really, he's just my speed.

And while I, too, thought this was below him, let's give him a break here - a man he admired (and knew) just died. I never met the guy and it took me half a day to write something because, for the longest, my only real thought was, "Whoa!" (My first words were actually, "What? No - Hell no - FUCK!" and then I grabbed my head to keep my bearings.) I emailed the news to a friend and his first response was "Fuck no." You just can't expect brilliance at a time like this, and, as the editor of NRO, the man had to write something.

My heart goes out to him.

Glad you like him Crack. The death of Andrew of quite a shock - 43 - that's way too young.

The temptation is to think he did something wrong. Drank too much, smoked too much, ate too much many Cheetos - but that's not the case.

You can do everything right and still die at 43, 53, 63. Scary.

Carnifex said...

We'll just have to assume PHX was trying to demonstrate the kind of uber-liberal that Crack was talking about.

Otherwise, PHX might be seen as quite the douche.

sakredkow said...

Oh no. You can assume I'm quite the douche.

PHX = Rev sockpuppet = boring.

andrew's very existence exposed the lies of the left. he was the "racist" who thought that all people should be treated equally, the "homophobe" who fully supported the rights of gay citizens, and the "sexist" who adored and relied on his wife and daughters for his strength. he was able to laugh at the attacks against him and even wear them as a badge of honor because he was a good-hearted, brilliant, and honorable man.

Issob Morocco said...

He was like the soldier pinned down with the rest of his troops, under severe and withering leftist fire. Beaten down, unable to move without suffering casualties. Unlike most of the rest of us, he decided he wasn't going to die cowering. He was going to die trying to live and spread freedom.

Andrew Breitbart is the guy who jumps up and leads, selflessly, into the oncoming fire. He did what he knew he had to to do, he did what was right, regards of the personal sacrifice. And his leadership, carrying the human spontaneous reaction, swept up us freedom loving Americans to follow and fight.

When he led, we followed and our numbers and actions have mortally wounded the totalitarian leftists. The battle is not over, not by a long shot, but the first skirmish will end in early November and continue into the rest of this decade.

And someday soon, when we have rolled back big governement and it's propaganda arm the Mainstream Media, we can look back at one man, who did what we could only think about, who was crazy enough to think he could affect change. He is the embodiment of the power of the individual.

And if we want to not let his passing disable us, take to heart that all of us freedom loving individuals working together can create a better country and society than what the Left have foisted upon us.

We are Andrew's soldiers and we are not stopping until we take back Washington and disassemble the elitist, incestuous network of politicians and media types. It doesn't matter what party you identify with, what matters is that you believe in yourself and your fellow man to make the best decisions as to how our lives should be run.

We shall look back on Feb. 29th 2012 someday and remember his passing not with sadness, which it truly is, but with the pride in our sense of purpose he provided us when we most needed it.

Let's make Andrew proud and have him recognize the greatness he displayed and lived every day.

RIP Andrew Breitbart. Prayers for strength and solace to his family and friends over the mortal loss of a great American. But his drive and ideas live on, in each of us. Let's show the lefty bastards we mean business!!

It's a shame I'll never see another of these late night arguments.

It turned out Breitbart had the facts on his side. He was right. But Lamar accepted the correction and noted where he had been misinformed.

It was then that Andrew explained why he had called him a putz and when Andrew extended the apology.

Instead of crowing about how right he was... which is what the caricature of Andrew would have done, Andrew instead reached out and allowed for good faith on both sides.

This is amazing to me mainly because these sets of lies have been swatted down dozens of times. It must have taken a ton of patience to continually swat them down and then allow for good faith on the part of the swatted.

BTW, Lamar White deserved the credit Andrew extended. He was handling this with class even before it was apparent this conversation would become notorious.

I also noticed Lamar had thick skin and was enjoying the heated exchange.
