Given the way the day started, shouldn't ya say you're in a happy mood?

I've been smiling all day...hope everyone else has been too.

I was happier before Duke lost.

But I do get a huge kick out of the upsets in the tourney.

So am I. It's a lovely 68 in NE OH; weather one never associates with St Paddy's Day.

So, for those of true Irish descent, not those who celebrate the day simply as another excuse to get plastered (in much the same way they celebrate Cinco De Mayo)*, take a moment to recall all those brave souls, our forebears, who came to this country to help build a nation.

And remember most came here looking for the freedom to practice their religion, something under attack now, as then.

* For them, the day might as well be named, as those PC morons in MA (where else?) put it, O'Green Day.

PS Tho' you and your beloved may not hail from the Auld Sod, Madame, a grand St Patrick's Day to the both of you as well.

That egocentric Kony video guy evidently had a meltdown.

Oh, the pain.

The director of a video gone viral that calls for the arrest of fugitive Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony has been hospitalized in California for exhaustion following an "unfortunate incident," his group said on Friday.
It said filmmaker Jason Russell's condition stemmed from the emotional toll of recent weeks...

"Jason Russell was unfortunately hospitalized yesterday suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition. He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better," Ben Keesey, head of Invisible Children, said in a statement.

"The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday," he added, without giving details.
Asked about media reports that Russell had been detained, a San Diego police spokeswoman said a 33-year-old white man had been taken to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment on Thursday morning after police received reports that he was acting "bizarrely."

But San Diego Police spokeswoman Lieutenant Andra Brown said she could not release the identity of the person detained.

She said people called police to say that the man, who was not arrested, was running into traffic and yelling while in "various stages of undress."

Invisible Children, Russell's nonprofit group, tapped 12 influential policymakers and 20 celebrities with popular Twitter accounts, including Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie, to spread the video. Since then, the company owned by powerful producer Harvey Weinstein has contacted Russell to buy the film.

The phenomenal success of the video, including the savvy media campaign with tweets about Kony, has been hailed for inspiring young people to activism, but has suffered criticism including that it oversimplified a long-standing human rights crisis.

Invisible Children Co-Founder Detained: SDPD

SDPD said he was found masturbating in public, vandalizing cars and possibly under the influence of something

A co-founder for Invisible Children was detained in Pacific Beach on Thursday for being drunk in public and masturbating, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Jason Russell, 33, was allegedly found masturbating in public, vandalizing cars and possibly under the influence of something, according to the SDPD. He was detained at the intersection of Ingraham Street and Riviera Road.
An SDPD spokesperson said the man detained was acting very strange, some may say bizarre. Video: SDPD statement

"Due to the nature of the detention, he was not arrested," Lt. Andra Brown said. "During the evaluation we learned we probably needed to take him to a medical facility because of statements he was saying."

Police said they received several calls Thursday at 11:30 a.m. of a man in various stages of undress, running through traffic and screaming.

Police described Russell as "in his underwear." He allegedly took off his underwear at one point, but it was back on by the time officers arrived, said police.

I was unhappy Duke lost also. I called my dad up, and told him that this was horrible. There would be no re-match of the 1998 game. I was looking forward to whooping that Dukie a$$. :-)

Curry picked a bad night to get the yips. But I thought the major reason you lost was ignoring your inside game. Plumlee brothers had a big advantage over Lehigh, but weren't being fed the ball. Too many of their points came of rebounds, not assists. Kelly being hurt, and Curry's off night left too little outside offense, and Lehigh was able to hide their athletic deficiencies.

You'll be fine next year. But the NCAA's Redemption Tour for UK is kaput. No UConn. No Duke. All they can hope for is IU to win.

The ones that are Lefties, no. Lefties are never in good spirits.

Even when they're happy, they're miserable.

To day is St. Patricks Day.
In the Auld Sod it is a day of reflection and holy mass.
Here in the US It is a day where Irish wannabes, amateur drinkers all, start early and often and before noon are puking on their shoes.
Shalom and begorrah and stay at home tonight.

I hate St. Patty's day. We are the only ethnos who celebrate the worst aspects of our stereotype by glorifying the drinking and brawling.

To me it seems like Italians celebrating Columbus day by breaking the fingers of those who are slow to repay loans.

I like being American these days. No need for the hyphen or the phony good will.

Carnifex-

I appreciate the thought. Honestly, though, I don't give a rat's rear end about Duke, except that I picked them to win it all. My 10 year old (who picked Kentucky) was delighted. Our brackets are pretty much experiments in guessing, since neither of us has watched a minute of college basketball this season. Too busy so far to even see a tournament game.

Too much of it is on cable. But, that's probably to my advantage.

Happy St. Patrick's Day all!

Lem, thanks for the Sade link. I loved her in the 90s and haven't listened to her for a few years now. I'll have to dig out our old CDs. Her music ages well, like a good wine.

Re: happiness, here's a link to one of my guilty pleasure 80s tunes: Cry by Godley and Creme (good video too).
