Rangers about to win the World Series?

I've been rooting for St. Louis. I have no idea why. Usually I'm an American League guy.

These Cards kids are comeback crazy!

St. Louis all the way. God must punish the AL for the DH rule.

The Texas team is not cooperating at all.

Hamilton goes deep. See ya Cards.

I like how Hamilton doesn't do anything but drop his bat and circle the bases. No fist pumps or that other crap. Pro.

No partisans in my house. We just want another night of baseball. Especially if the game is going to be as wild as this one.

Baseball is the greatest spectator sport. None of that random Hail Mary shit like football, or garbage-foul time like basketball. Amazing game tonight.

Chip S. said...

Oh, and Althouse--when are you gonna learn to fear the sports jinx? First you taunted Michigan State, now this.

Sports noob.

Peter Hoh said...

True dat, Chip. I once left a voicemail for a friend, referencing the Twins 7 run lead, with a little chuckle.

The Twins went on to lose the game.

Chip S. said...

Red Sox fans are raised to know this at a very early age, Peter. In fact, by now it may be a selected genetic trait among people with long New England lineages.

I am not a baseball fan. For those of you who are, why wasn't the triple that the Cards hit in the 9th to tie the game called an error? It looked to me like the right fielder jogged way too slowly and then misjudged the ball. Not an easy play, but one that probably should have been made?

D. B. Light said...

One of the greatest games I've ever seen! Not quite up to the level of the seventh game of the 1960 series, but close. Very close.

Chip S. said...

@ALH, He never got his glove on the ball. The rule governing outfield errors has a presumption that there's no error when the fielder has to run all-out to get to the ball, even if it is briefly in his glove. He'd pretty much have had to have fallen down after the ball hit him in the chest to get an error on a play like that.

I'd bet that most outfielder errors are charged to errant throws rather than misplayed fly balls.

D. B. Light said...

And what was best about the game -- Stan the Man was there to see it!

Chip S. said...

@DBL--That's cool.

Robin Ventura probably thinks the best part of the game was that Nolan Ryan was there to see it.

Ann Althouse said...

Was George Bush there? Up in some luxury box? I think about how he's feeling?

Rangers?

What's this talk about Rangers I hear?

"The two-party system presupposes an adversary relationship between the two parties. That there is no such relationship in New York Mr. Lindsay makes especially clear when he proposes as running mates members of the Liberal and Democratic Parties. Mr. Lindsay's Republican Party is a sort of personal accessory, unbound to the national party's candidates, unconcerned with the views of the Republican leadership in Congress, indifferent to the historic role of the Republican Party as standing in opposition to those trends of our time that are championed by the collectivist elements of the Democratic Party. Mr. Lindsay, described by The New York Times as being "as liberal as a man can be," qualifies for the support of the Liberal Party and the Republican Party only if one supposes that there are no substantial differences between the Republican Party and the Liberal
Party. That there should be is my contention."

Talk about comebacks...

Tomorrow night should be very interesting. If things repeat themselves St. Louis is going to be primed for one heck of a party this weekend.

Great game. One strike away, twice. I love baseball! Go TX!

Baseball is still being played? Are any Red Sox, Yankees, D-Backs, or Phillies in on it? No? Well, I guess it's worthwhile for others to do aerobics.

I was reliving 1960 game 7 with my grandkids here in Dallas
as we watched a classic last night. 9-9 in the bottom of the 9th, 7th game of the W.S. against the Yankees - Maz at the plate! I still get goose bumps.

What a game! Can't wait to watch tonight's Game 7. I predicted the Cards would win the Series and I like to be right but both teams have played hard and are really good so I just hope tonight's game is a nail biter too.

glenn said...

Aside from a few moments of "Pickup Nine at a Wenie Roast" syndrome that was a baseball game.

David said...

I attended the Maz game. It was "better" than this one for three reasons.

1. 7th game
2. Not a bunch of errors and gaffes
3. Yankees lost

But this was a super exciting ball game.

I'm rooting for the Cards because LaRussa's a lawyer. And for Stan Musial.

Go Cards!

For Card fans this Series is playing out like 1982, which Brewers fan remember not so fondly, the Cards winning Game 6&7 @ home. Then there's 1986 where the Mets win an impossible Game 6 and then game 7 @ home. But, lurking in the dark recesses of Card fans minds has to be 1975. The Red Sox win in dramatic fashion @ home w/ the Carlton Fisk walk off homer, just like the Cards last night. The Reds come back and win Game 7. I'm certain Meade remembers that one!

Game 6's are often incredible because of the dynamic, one team going for the KO, the other trying to stay alive. Game 7 is often anticlimatic. This may be the exception. We'll see what the Rangers are made of tonight. I got the sense the Card players were picking up their manager after he screwed up badly in Game 5. My disdain for LaRussa is well documented. But, the way his players picked him up last night says something to me. But..he's still an asshole, and an attorney!

I watched it through the 7th inning.

Game over. Good night, Irene.

Kinda of a boring game, but Texas was the stronger team.

Congratulations on your 1st World Series.

Yea, I saw some photo-shopped highlights this morning of some stunning extra inning extravaganza-

Like I was born yesterday-

For some reason, ... I'm for Texas.

For some reason? I thought it was concern for W's happiness. The mystery must be why Meade backs the SLCs.

Yes, it's true. I care about George Bush's happiness. I don't know why, but I've felt protective of him for a long time. (I didn't vote for him in 2000, but since about a year after that.)

Meade is for the Cardinals because of their amazing story making it to the wildcard and past the Phillies. Then they took down our Brewers. What's the better reaction to that? You could say, the better they do now, the more positive meaning attaches to the Brewers' defeat. Or you could carry a grudge. Anyway, they're a great story this year, and I understand the concept. I just find myself being for Texas.

When it comes to sports and entertainment, my loyalties are completely mutable - commensurate with sport's and entertainment's loyalties to me.

Professor: Do you find it funny that you felt protective of the guy who was the most powerful person on the face of the earth? And that you still feel that protective instinct? Especially when you didn't vote for him, and he won the election under such contested circumstances?

I mean, it seems crazy, but to an extent I can understand it - the guy was vilified by lots of people, and it only got worse. And, for someone truly interested in the welfare of the country, it is important that he succeed.

But still - and I think you would admit - it's funny to feel protective of someone so powerful!
