Avatar/pix looks great!
Sunset isn't bad, either ;-)
If only there existed energy companies with enormous capital that were willing to invest heavily in research and development. Then the government wouldn't have to fund green energy because the private sector would take care of green energy development as it made sense economically due to rising energy costs. What? Four of the top ten largest corporations in the United States are energy producers? How odd. You'd think that this government green energy business was a silly scheme or something.
Which of the islands is doubting?
Wisconsin is such a beautiful state! There are so many breathtaking places to visit, border-to-border.Ah! I feel so blessed to live in Wisconsin. There is beauty at every turn.
That is a nice sunset. Glad I am no longer banned.
Freeman:If only there was a government which would stop spending tax dollars on uneconomical green energy projects, we could begin to settle our debt crisis.
I am doing a road trip with the Mrs. Fred4Pres and the kids in August and will go right through Wisconsin. Twice.
We had a lovely sunset here in Tucson with double rainbows and beautiful lightning strikes. It is monsoon season in southern Arizona.
The sunset cured my ban hammer ills. And we can play word verification at the same time!WV: salie:It's salie nt 'n't?
Apostle islands? Is one Paul? Is one Peter? Was this a way to view religion as something that got "pushed off?"
Can you fish in that water?Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn is the home of fishing vessels. They toodle back to port around 4:00 PM. And, sometimes, they sold the catch. So you could go home with the freshest flounder. Here, in California, for some reason, they call flounder, halibut. But it's not the same. Why aren't there boats on the water?
Carol, both Troop and I have fished out of Sheepshead Bay. Not at the same time, but good time, good times. There are flounder and fluke in California. Halibut (while flat and a similar species) is a whole different fish. Especially when you catch a 100+ pounder. But a 30-50 pounder has some of the best white fish you will ever have. At least the ones I have caught in Alaska.
Whenever the wife & I visit the upper Midwest we stay a night or two in the Bayfield area. Driving around Chequamegon is a joy in the summer time. Old fishing villages, logging communities. It feels very European, like a misplaced Baltic state.
I braved the heat and humidity today to watch the Ironman 70.3 triathlon in downtown Racine. When the pros started at 7 a.m. the temperature was 74 degrees with 80 percent humidity. Four hours later when they finished the heat index was well over 100 degrees. I was so exhausted that I got home and slept 8 hours straight which is unusual since I never sleep during daylight hours. The woman who won the female division hardly looks like an elite athlete but she finished in 4:25 despite the heat and after competing in another triathlon on Saturday.Photos here.
I feel a sudden urge for an orange. Here are a few simple tricks to greatly improve Ramen noodles.
That is absolutely magnificent. Kudos, Madame.James said...I braved the heat and humidity today to watch the Ironman 70.3 triathlon in downtown Racine. If it's that hot and she did another of those the day before, I'd think she'd need some bulk to her to have enough strength to do a second the next day
Great shot.Sunsets result in colors that cannot be reproduced.Do you think muslim radicals appreciate sunsets?
There are actually 22 Apostle Islands...not 12 like you would think. I've heard that only 12 are visable by a small boat staying near the shore of Lake Superior, which early explorers would surely have done.
James, That was very bold of you to go watch the triathlon. Every year, I congratulate myself if I am able to wath the Hawaii Ironman triathlon, on the couch, (and here's the hard part) without falling asleep. It takes lots of training.
My dear wife and I visited the Apostle Islands lakeshore a few months ago; we plan to go back.I'd be surprised if the name had anything to do with the number of islands. They may have been named for a feast day, like many Spanish names in the West (e.g. San Francisco).
My first time in a kayak was in the bay on the south side of Stockton Island. Superior was very choppy that day, but the bay was well protected. Sand Island has the great sea caves. Would love to go see them in winter. I've heard they're beautiful.
How about a weather report from along the shore line of Lake Superior, professor. I would think that it's cooler up there.
Here's a reference:"The Apostle's originally received their name because early French explorers mapped only twelve islands."http://lighthouse.boatnerd.com/gallery/superior/SandIsland.htm
Thanks for restoring my/our posting abilities, AA. That Google thing was driving me nuts (posting from the Blackberry makes me feel like Gulliver).
I wonder if Ann Laurie Gaylor has a problem w/ state property having a religious name.
How about a weather report from along the shore line of Lake Superior, professor. I would think that it's cooler up there. The dewpoint was 78 in Ashland yesterday.
Right now in Star Prairie, WI" Partly Cloudy81 °F(27 °C) Humidity: 84 % Wind Speed: Calm Barometer: 29.94" Dewpoint: 75 °F (24 °C) Heat Index: 87 °F (31 °C) Visibility: 10.00 mi. Uncomfortable. I can hardly wait for the temps to rise.
@ChipYour ramen enhancements look great. Another approach is to start with ramen that isn't crap. Mama brand ramen in the tom yum flavor is much better than Maruchan. The noodles are the weak point with Mama.
July 15, 2011"I'll be turning 50 in a week." -- obamaHe’ll be turning 50 in three weeks. His birthday is August 4. He needs to maybe look at his birth ceritificate, and find out what someone wrote down.
@edutcherI looked up the female winner; she's Christie Sym from Sydney, Australia. She won the triathlon in Bloomington, Indiana on Saturday then competed again on Sunday. That's just crazy to me.@PatrickI didn't spend the entire four hours watching the race. After the pros got on their bikes I went back home and showered and changed so I was pretty comfortable. I returned just in time for the transition from biking to running.I'd think it would be pretty difficult to watch from your couch. It was a lot of fun hanging out with the crowd; I met people from all over the world.
Is this a photo from last year or did Meadehouse motor North again?
Professor, you and Meade should toddle a few miles further up the road to the Keweenaw Peninsula. Lots of history and beautiful scenery. There's even a university with internet service if you need to stay in touch.
Hopefully you're out sailing around the Apostles on a Dreamcatcher sailboat today, and cooling off with a swim.
Water temp a refreshing 60 degrees near Bayfield.
It would surprise me if that's a photo from this week. I would expect there to be plenty of fog offshore given the high dewpoints up nort'
Feminist Economic Insanity! H/T Mark Steyn on Rush today. I love my wife, but sometimes I get the feeling she thinks deficits don't matter either.
My wife is the fiscal hawk in our household. It sounds to me more like math was "too hard" for Susan Feiner. "Soft-science" graduate, prolly.
Faith-based double rainbow.
Nice photo! No one ever visits Judas Island, Except for that time two years ago when Bill Maher visited Wisconsin.I took a nice motorcycle ride around lake Superior last week. The west side, Minnesota's own sea shore is gorgeous. Thunder Bay is a neat city, nice places to stay, eat and visit. The top of the lake is typically Ontario gorgeous, many more hills and rocks that I expected, and fewer humans. Saw a large operating gold mine along the Trans-Canada Highway, west of Marathon.Wawa is still a dump; we rode another two hours to Sault Ste Marie rather than spending the night in Wawa. The old downtown in Sault Ste Marie Michigan is beautifully restored, and made economically vibrant by the tourists who come to see the Soo locks. We saw a large tacointe freighter pass through the Soo locks and head for the Soo bagels. The rest of the UP, crossing form the Soo to Houghton, then south back into Wisconsin is filled with so many attractions and so much natural beauty that many return trips are necessary just to scratch it's surface.
