In the yardwork sense. What were you thinking?

Crabgrass is coming in as a low layer now.

In two weeks it will be time to retire the long scythe blade for the short one this makes necessary.

Why is Democrat Rep. Peter Weiner sending people pictures of his dick?

Jesus can't these people keep it in their pants.

His poor wife must be grief-stricken.

Oh, as to Rep. Weiner, I think it's an outrage that after so many years and so many billions of dollars we still have not developed a safe and reliable vaccine for smallcox.

A couple of days ago as I was exiting my car I noticed this really ferocious looking black and grey spider that had gotten inside the car somehow. I took a swipe at it but it very quickly disappeared into one of the air ducts. Then I promptly forgot about it. Today when I got into the car I noticed a shape on the passenger side window. When I looked closely it was a wasp caught in the jaws of that same spider. I freaked and made a stab at the monster but once again it escaped down an air duct, this time with its prey. So now I've got a ferocious well fed spider lurking...

Bill Clinton just told a group of graduates that putting profits first is hurting America. Odd statement from one of six supply-side Presidents in our history. Continuing to gear up for Hillary's 2012 run?

Summer yard work is progressing at my place. We are still in the infrastructure phase with French drains and restoration of a small bridge. I bought the house a year ago and by the time I got moved in, winter had arrived. Even 60 miles from Los Angeles, at 5200 feet, winter comes early and leaves late.

Once the hardscape is fixed, we will do some planting. Summer is nice. I have lived in California over 50 years and find that, aside from the few warm days in winter, we lived pretty much inside from November to May. A cold winter makes one enjoy summer that much more.

Coketown said...

@ricpic: The spider alone would make me queasy. But you've got spiders AND wasps? All inside your car? And you still get inside that thing? Ewww. Ick.

Fen said...

Its eating wasps for you. You must be blessed.

The fig tree lived through another winter. That makes me happy. The lawn can go to hell.

This is my first year without a yard so I don't have any yardwork to report on. I've been trying to recreate the experience with an abundance of potted plants inside. But I'm in a north-facing apartment so constantly have to bring my plants to work with me on rotation so they get enough sunlight.

I'm turning into one of those crazy plant-people.

ricpic said...

Well, I leave the windows partly open, it being summer and all and flying and crawling things get in. They're nothing compared to what folks in Florida find inside their cars.

Old joke, but still funny.

The new, improved, IRS 1040 Form:
1. How much did you make last year?
2. Send it in.

ricpic: You can bomb cars, just like you can bomb houses. Fill the car up with spray for awhile, and later air it out for a couple hours before you get into it. I had to do it years ago for roaches.

I pet bumble bees - they are very nice insects - approach them slowly and calmly and you too could pet one. I have never tried to pet a honey bee - have no idea if that even makes sense to attempt. Wasps and hornets are right out - might as well try to pet a copperhead.

WV: seven - how many fingers you would have left after petting a police dog.

Ripic, I worked for a pest control company one summer in high school, and I agree with what Ricardo said. I'd go ahead and get rid of it. You don't want it dropping out of the sun visor and into your lap while you're driving.

A wind kicked up last night and blew in one of my windows, glass shattering everywhere. Not a great storm or anything here in the capital, so the only thing I can take that to mean is that my windows suck, and glass was loose. I have the storm window down now - well up, as it's a warm day, but will put it down later. I suppose that's ok for a few days till I get a new window (frame and all, they are old) put in.

I hope.

Oh, come on! With a last name like that, you'd think he'd have more political sense.

I'm growing cucumbers on the patio.

The first attempt was fail. Weather turned cold and wet, the seeds turned to mush. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting, and finally after a month I looked online to see what the problem might be.

Bought a new pack of seeds. Germinated in 24 hours. Planted in a tiny plastic green house. After just three days they are beginning to form their secondary leaves. So the moral of the story is ... um ... the moral would be ... I guess, start things inside.

Does Althouse ever take requests? Or does requesting a topic make it less likely she'll post on it? Anyway, I'm looking forward to an Althouse post on Mamet's "conversion" and, perhaps more interesting, the emerging liberal responses & explanations for it (so far: Zionism, false consciousness, rich guy discovers he's Republican, martial arts…) But maybe it's worth waiting until after his book comes out.

I suspect I know why Mamet "converted"; I'd like to know why more people hold themselves back from similar conversion.

Marmet gives the reason quite succinctly when he says that he was a "brain-dead liberal." The quote at the bottom of his book says "The struggle of the Left to rationalize its positions is an intolerable Sisyphean burden. I speak as a reformed Liberal." As much as I think of this group of commenters, I don't think we could improve on what Mamet already said.

windbag said...

Of course, the entertainment value of this is pretty high.

I picked up another 3 yards of stripped bark mulch.

Unloaded most of it while hubby was out of town. Backed front wheels of truck up on ramps so I could get it out easier. Worked pretty well, if I do say so myself.

Looking at it I am pretty sure it's not enough. I have a lot to more to do.

But what I've done looks pretty nice :-)

"Weiner’s office — generally one of the most press friendly around — did not respond to a request for comment on whether he has contacted federal authorities to report the alleged cyber-attack, which could fall under laws prohibiting cyberhacking and impersonating federal officials."

See, if Weiner reports to the FBI the "hacking" of a sitting Congressman's Facebook account, yfrog account and Twitter account, but then it is revealed later that he really sent the obscene pictures of his penis to this woman, he could be indicted for felony false reporting.

So, Weiner's office is deliberately not reporting to the proper authorities that his computers have been hacked.

It's becoming pretty obvious that Mr. Weiner has some 'splainin' to do about using the wires to send obscene material to his stalkee.

Like I said before, his wife must be grief-stricken that her husband is a creepy.

Oh, well. Like they always say: Sleep with Democrats, wake up with fleas.

nevadabob said...

Update:

The victim of Democrat Rep. Weiner's internet stalking has been identified as Gennette Nicole Cordova, a buxom student at Whatcom Community College, Bellingham, Wash., where she is a reporter for the student newspaper.

Weiner - a sitting Congressman - has so far failed to report the alleged hacking of his online accounts to the FBI, raising questions as to whether those claims are actually true.

oh my God, Juan Valdez coffee from Colombia is so good (with GF donuts). I'm happy.

(Are we seriously expecting people to leave office based on the photos they send to other people. Really, the Republican who bowed out b/c he got caught sending a half naked (top!) photo of himself to someone was a bit much. Ostentatious. Just say, yeah, I did it: fu, and move on. No? For how long are we expected to labor under the illusion that people in a questionable profession don't have affairs?)
