...On the night after the 1996 election, "Emanuel was so angry at the president's enemies that he stood up at a celebratory dinner with colleagues from the campaign, grabbed a steak knife and began rattling off a list of betrayers, shouting 'Dead! ... Dead! ... Dead!' and plunging the knife into the table after every name."

I see Chicago went in a completely unexpected direction. I hope the change doesn't shock too many people there.

Do they really vote in Chicago?....or does on just assume the position?....so to speak

The family photo is very sweet. The little girl is leaning into Mom-wearing-Christian-Louboutins in a very endearing way.

They don't even bother with an election in Chicago.

It's just a backroom fix by the Democratic Party.

Chicago and Rahm are made for each other. Vulgar, classless, money-grubbing, borderline intelligent and completely devoid of any ethics.

Anyway, I hope Chicagoans and Rahm well - and please everyone - stay in Chicago.

Finally! An election result that America's Politico called correctly.

I can't help feeling that Rham is a total lightweight.

CREEP (Committee to Reelect the President) is now going to be ensconced in City Hall. Job one for Emanuel is not going to be the mayor of Chicago. Job one is going to be electing his pal to a second term. The people of Chicago be damned.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the Chicago voter.

Somebody alert Mick that Rahm is not a Resident of Chicago and therefore is not Mayor.

@Irene: kudos if you're correctly checking the Christian Louboutins (and I'll take your word). But why is the entire family's (minus mom) legs color-coordinated?

What *message* does that send?

Okay, I'll try not to indulge a glib Brownshirts-style comparison. But it does give me a little visual reminder of what I loathe about Chicago's political culture, and the ridiculous way our Fearless Leader seems so utterly beholden to its political dramatis personae and their uniquely self-centered worldview.

Can Chicago not endure the possibility of coloring outside the box?

Honestly, with the selection we had for mayoral candidates, Rahm was the best of the worst candidates running for mayor in this city. Let me put it this way, in the 14 years I have live in this city, unless you are member of the Democratic party and a certified member of the Chicago political Machine, there is no way in hell that any Conservative Republican, Tea Party, Independent or Blue Dog Democrat will have any chance to be elected much less find his or her name on any ballot especially if that candidate is more than willing to take on the Chicago political Machine.

PS. Emmanuel Rahm is elected to keep Chicago safe for the next Daley to assume his or her father's position 10 years from now.

Irene said...

@Lucid, it's coordinated, but not in a creepy John Roberts family sort of way. The tights are cute on the girls, but Mom should reconsider the "Almost Black" pantyhose.

rcocean said...

This result is not surprising. Take Detroit, Brooklyn, and Cleveland - toss them all together and you have Chicago.

BTW, the latest gossip is that after Rahm finishes his turn as Mayor of Chicago, he'll run for the Senate in Minnesota.

That's assuming Pee Wee Herman doesn't run.

Ben (The Tiger in Exile) said...

I'd've voted for him.

See the other jokers in the race? (I mean, the ones who had a chance.)

@Irene: I'll grant you, the blue's a nice color.

That aside, does Obama reckon how tiresome and unpleasant the Chicago scene appears to people ouside it?

Obama, supposedly the most cosmopolitan human being ever created, is completely enthralled by (and in the thrall of) this petty, mercenary political culture of Chicago.

Indeed, Obama seems to weirdly believe Chicago is some kind of modern Athens. At least, he must believe all the most talented people in America hail from there.

Or so he would like it to appear. In reality, he seems intimidated by outsiders. At least with the Bush brand of loyalty you can understand it's a tribal thing: i.e. my daddy/brother/whatever trusted you pal, so I'm gonna trust you. Or something to that effect.

With Obama, it's more like: I'm not comfortable dealing with people I haven't been in Mutual Appreciation Mode with for the past twenty years.

At least Rahm wears his SOBiness on his sleeve, which is a bit more respectable than all the high-class pretensions to civility and rational debate.

The zombies win. Here's to watching a leftard utopia collapse in on itself from the crushing weight of it's corruption.

He is smokin a cigar in one hand and...well let's just say no one does it better than Rahm. Savor the moment.

As the saying goes, people get the government they deserve.

What I want to know is what building's foundation will host the remains of the judges who said Tippytoes was ineligible to run?

PS The Zero may have visions of 1960 dancing in his head, but Jack Kennedy didn't have to run in the rest of the country with Barry's record.

PPS Where are garage and the rest of the Lefties objecting to the will of the people being hijacked?

Ann are you wishing us few remaining working and taxpaying Land of Corruption residents good luck with the election of a man who did not live in the city 5 months ago, was a driving force in the housing bubble and loves power more than anything else?

Or was that good luck for that Poseur Daley wanna-be Rahm good luck?

For which side was that kind thought meant?

Would it be too much to ask for a recount? Maybe check out a few voter registrations while you're at it? Because compared to Daley, and now Rahm Emanuel, Al Capone was a piker. A regular alter boy.

The missing WI legislators can go home now. Their votes for Rahm put him over the top. Rahm will reciprocate by sending some Illini 'concerned citizens' to Madison.

KCFleming said...

Rahm stands over an Empire that is crumbling beneath him, due to the Democratic Party policies now foisted on the rest of the US.

The 2010 census showed Chicago population has dropped to below that seen in the 1920s, a 6.9% decline in 10 years. Some escaped to the suburbs, some left the state altogether.

While the US population grew by 9.7% since 2000, Illinois' population rose just 3.3%, to 12.86 million.

As a result, Illinois lost one House seat in Congress.

Pretty soon, they can be like Michigan, and actually lose population.

Can't. Animate Dead only lasts 24 hours.

Poor chicago. Doomed to a life of corruption and graft.

Yah but guess who will get to bail them out?

Rahm has the nerve to criticize Walker's way of dealing with fiscal crisis.

Yet the best thing Rahm can propose is a vaguely defined (and union oriented) plan to cut (hold on to your hats) $50 million, which is virtually nothing compared to the rest of the state's $5+ billion debt.

Maybe Silvio Berlusconi can become a politician emeritus in Chicago.

There once was a time when Mayor Dailey and radicals such as William Ayers were on "opposing teams".

I know Mr. Emanuel will bring a new way and a new spirit to Chicago politics. We are truly in a post partisan era.

David said...

Rahm could be a good mayor of Chicago.

Of course Obama could have been a good President.

Good luck to who? The city or the mayor?

Fen said...

Good luck to us, the taxpayers who will be forced to bail out Chicago.
