"The Fish Filet™ Commercial KFC Doesn’t Want You To See (Anymore)."

"'It is no longer airing and will not be re-aired,' said a flack for Yum! Brands, the perpetually thrilled conglomerate that owns KFC."

ADDED: That's an interesting YouTube portal into Chinese commercials. Check out this very weird Panda cheese thing, and this one made me feel like I needed to have a seizure.

The Chinese are obviously racist.

What's wrong with it?

Yes, but he is resurrected in the stinger, suggesting that he really is The Black Jesus.

So, isn't it a mixed bag?

Wow. KFC hired away Obama's speechwriter.

I can see why they wanted to back away from the violent imagery of the commercial, though.

It's not racist because it's not a chicken sandwich. It's a fish sandwich. I think the problem is crushing the President with a giant sandwich. But clearly, he's unharmed. He survives and even enjoys the sandwich.

I feel like there are a lot of commercials where a giant product falls on someone and then the person is happy about getting the product.

I don't see what's wrong with it, either.

People gotta stop being so sensitive to every perceived and imagined slight.

I'm pretty sure when Barack Obama go to KFC he don't get no fish.

And by people, I mean corporations.

Ah so, does Karl Rove have Chinese friends at KFC China? They say Karl learned this type of ad from Lee Atwater. Any thing on the internet is suspicious.

MadisonMan said...

It is an effective ad? The one shot of the fish sandwich -- I love fish sandwiches -- looked compelling, but the rest of the ad is pretty distracting.

Barack Obama to KFC employee:

"Could I get me uh arugula salad here?"

"Ironically, the President has no sole."

Gonna be hard to top this one for thread-winner.

I don't know if anyone noticed..but the ad that made ann want to have seizures - listen carefully to the background music. Its played with a traditional chinese instrument (or a synthesized version of the same) but the tune..the tune is unmistakable. Its Yankee Doodle!

Ankur said...

Oh wait! I was wrong. its Old McDonald. That makes more sense I suppose.

The music sounds generic patriotic to me. At first I thought it was I've been working on the rail road.

Smilin' Jack said...

This is outrageous. The presidency is a full-time job; Obama should not be moonlighting in Chinese commercials.

Sofa King said...

Really? We're supposed to believe this is offensive?

I find it amusing - this is what American Imperialism really looks like. Funny ads for fast food fried chicken. Soft power, we still has it.

"It's not racist because it's not a chicken sandwich."

What kind of a comment is this?

Why would it be racial at all to show video of a president being crushed by a delicious chicken sandwich from KFC?

Obama has a white mother. Ergo, he's white. This makes as much sense as saying that he's black because he has a black father.

Just because he married a Klingon doesn't make him black.

It's Lang Lang's "My Motherland." A snub to America. Only Chinese people or employees of Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken get the joke.

I thought Kenyans preferred beef.

Not to be pedantic, but the Panda ads are actually in Arabic, for an Arabic brand of processed cheese.

Choosey chicken lovers choose Church's Fried Chicken. Five layers of flavor is why.

Chinese or Arabic, those Panda ads (I watched a few) are really bad. Buy our cheese or a creepy, bad-ass bear will do scary things to you? That makes "Where's Waldo?" seem like Apple's '1984' ad by comparison.

Well, that does it. Now I have to go find a KFC and order and eat one of those fish sandwiches. Hey, maybe it'll be fabulous.

That Chick-fil-A turned out to be friggin' fabulous. Why not KFC?

Well now that they've offended our dear leader I demand they forgive our national debt!

Or at least reparations!

(Think it will work?)

Bartender Cabbie said...

I think we should ask the dinks for reparations for saving their asses from Imperial Japan. Just a thought.

Is it legal to shoot Pandas in the US if they disconnect your IV? Or would their endangered species status land you in jail?

Unknown said...

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with it. If it was fried chicken, and he was talking slang, maybe...but this is fine. Of course, he is the Messiah, so maybe that's the problem. ;)

Plus, nobody can beat McDonald's Fish Filet.

There are only two fried chicken restaurants on Earth:

1) Fast Food: Church's Fried Chicken. (Closest one to me is 400 miles away ... alas.)

2) Slow Food: Stroud's Oak Ridge Manor in Kansas City, Missouri

Stroud's restaurant has the best fried chicken that I have ever consumed anywhere. It is pan fried in deep black skillets ... just like your grandmama used to make.

And the pan simmered chicken gravy ... it is to DIE FOR.

There is none better anywhere.

I love this on so many levels not least of which is the way it captures the essence of Asian commercial culture as this giant hyperdriven machine that swallows everything it encounters and spits it back in your face as ultra high-velocity capitalism.

That is one delicious looking sandwich right there. Just looking at that almost has me on my way to the car.

As opposed to American commercial culture, which is ... what?

In any case, I prefer the commercial for Israeli satellite TV featuring its own Obama doppelgänger. (Or could this be the same guy???)

I've eaten at KFC in China and trust me, it was not fabulous. Their Burger King was freaking amazing though!

So in China KFC means Kentucky Fried Carp?

TWM said...

"It's not racist because it's not a chicken sandwich."

Please, it's a fact that black people, along with millions of white people, love fried chicken. It's only racist in the minds of those who seek out racism in all things.

BTW several of the black people I've known over the years love fried chicken with hot sauce. Then again so do many white people I know.

None of that is racist.

It is, however, against the new civility to squash Barry with a fish sandwich, unlike calling for Clarence Thomas to be lynched or sent back to the fields.
