I'll also have Tea. Earl Grey. Hot. It took 30+ years to go from this to this. Faster please.
Cory Doctrow's wonderful Makers covers the 3D printer trend in glorious detail.
Heh. An interest of my husband's for a whole bunch of years now--not the clothing, per se, but the 3-D printing and the related technology and the implications. DIY, MAKE magazine, etc., and all that jazz (no coincidence or toss off, that phraseology). Be careful: What might be new might also be old news. It depends, doesn't it?
I can't wait for the porn industry's killer app for this new technology.
Did you just say new Depends® might be old?
"I can measure your body, in 3D..."Isn't that what got the TSA in trouble?(Everyone must be asleep. Can't believe I'm the first to make that comment.)
I'll believe the clothes when I see them, but the rest is intriguing, to be sure.
Any fans of Jeopardy have to watch next week. The woman who is the new champ is a kissn' cousin look alike for our professor. I believe her name is Judy.
Quote from the article:"Imagine the potential of this for the fashion industry,"Destroy it? I'd like to be able to buy flattering clothes that fit, in colors & styles I like, without being pestered by salespeople and having to look at myself in the funhouse mirrors of department-store fitting rooms...
Can it make an upgraded version of the printer?
(The Crypto Jew)Surely someone can see the joke potential here, "3-D" and airport scanners and "clothing." I've had no caffeine and distrust my abilites any way, but surely someone, anyone...Buellar, anyone?
So eventually if TSA identifies a terrorist with it's scanners, they could 3D print a replicate of him, and waterboard the replicate. Do your legal rights get replicated with your body. There could be problems with that, since then your replicate could sign your documents, sleep with your wife or go to jail for you, and vise versa. Would your wife get angry if your replicate was dating a younger hottie? If your replicate goes gay, are you gay too?Hot looking people could sell their replicates. Some day our dystopian future will come, by popular demand.
Sure it's a great benefit of the future, but before too long the government will start requiring we all wear the exact same form-fitting jumpsuit and boots.
"I can measure you body in 3D"Just let me get my probe out, and we'll get started.
Like with any other tech (AI anyone?), this will take a while and won't do it all. The printer can replicate itself - except for all the parts that make a printer work. In other words, it can reproduce the plastic parts but not the wiring, drive motors, light sensors, micro-chips, board circuitry, etc. Clothes? Not unless you want flat-sheet plastic clothes. No way will this (or many to come) print with the resolution required to compose fabrics. wv: prommo - this was a prommo of concept.
Tell her to make me a cambric shirt, Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, Without no seam nor needle work, Then she'll be a true love of mine.
Oligon or someone.Please.Explain to me how this thing works.Like give me a link.I have been trying to wrap my mind around this since I heard about these machines back whenever. I saw a picture of a guy online holding a 3D model of some buildings. So that I can get ... you print it out on cardboard and glue them together...But ...(I'll go look at Popville's link ...)
"...perfectly fitting garments..." Kind of misses the point doesn't it. If we wanted perfectly fitting garments, we could use spray paint.
