October 26, 2010

Finally some good news for Democrats.

A fortuitous head-stomping lifts lefty hearts.

ADDED: I'm trying to understand the scope of the political theater depicted in the video and reported here. The woman, a Moveon.org employee, came to the debate to create a scene, we're told, by presenting a joke "award" to Ron Paul.
In the video from CNN affiliate WDRB, several men wearing Rand Paul shirts or stickers are seen ripping a blonde wig off the head of Lauren Valle and pushing her to the ground. One of the men stomps on her shoulder with his foot, which then lands on the side of her head.
Are the men in the T-shirts also from Moveon.org? Who were they? There were no arrests and though there was a crowd, no one bothered to have detained these men. Did they just melt back into the night? It's very convenient that these bad actors were wearing labels identifying them.
"We don't know the suspect. We're in the process of trying to review the video tapes," said Lt. Edward Hart. "Where this took place, there were no police officers."

All of the people who accosted Valle in the video are subject to charges, Hart said.

Valle, who complained of soreness to her temple, told police she would seek medical attention herself.
So her head was on the curb and her neck was stomped, but she will go off and take care of herself?

I'm skeptical!

AND: Perhaps the reason the crowd did not detain the men is that, in person, it did not look as brutal as it seems in the short video clip — a clip that has the words "head" and "stomp" near it. What was the woman doing before the men activated themselves to stop her? Also, look closely. There is no head stomp. The head is on the curb, but the foot presses down on the shoulder. That ends pretty quickly. That restraint might be a reason to speculate that the men were part of some Moveon.org theater, but it could also mean that the men felt they needed to stop her — because she was in disguise and rushing toward the candidate? — and they reacted quickly. There is force, but they soon back off. I'm not endorsing their judgment about what amount of force was appropriate, but perhaps I can see reason to think that they may have been motivated not by their preexisting propensity toward violence, but by the purpose of protecting the candidate.

UPDATE: The "stomper" comes forward. He's a real Rand Paul volunteer, and he's apologized. I'm really glad he's come forward:
Paul supporter Tim Profitt said video of the scuffle made it appear worse than it was and he chided police for not stepping in....
"I'm sorry that it came to that, and I apologize if it appeared overly forceful, but I was concerned about Rand's safety," Profitt told The Associated Press....

"A friend of mine went up to three policeman before Rand got there, and told them about the girl who was standing there with that wig on and that she was getting ready to do something," Profitt said. "The policemen looked at him and said that's not our job."
UPDATE 2: Day 2 of this discussion begins here.

Isn't that a line from A Few Good Men? My opinion of that movie has changed. When asked why she support the defendants, Demi Moore's character replied "Because they stand on a wall and make sure no one is going to hurt you." or something like that. I agree that violence in political debate is deplorable. However, there are times when violence is necessary. It didn't really look that violent, it looked staged. Even my limited experience of breaking up fights between high school students tells me this was not serious. We have had too many years of feminism. Where is this 'bunch of men beating up a woman' crap come from? She was instigating whatever it was. Her genitalia don't mean that she needs protection. Ever hear of Squeaky Fromme? Never start a fight you don't want to finish. I found "you can't hit me, I'm a girl" disgusting years ago and it hasn't gotten any better with time.

The left has shown over and over a greater propensity for violence. Progressives, socialist, communist: they are the ones who have murdered so many so fast we have to create new words for it. Totalitarian regimes have killed, but mass murderers of history were leftist interested in control.

Back to the video: it sure looked staged. It will be interesting to learn more about everybody involved. Like, why did that woman feel it was necessary to wear a wig?

Like I said earlier in the thread; nothing she did justified getting beat up-restrained yes, by rushing a candidate she appeared to be dangerous, but not beat up.

However, having something happen to her doesn't change the fact that she was engaged in a schmucky activity and is deserving of being called a schmuck. Non schmucks engage their political opponents. Schmucks just engage in subterfuge to embarrass them.

Jeremy said...

Alex said..."this "girl" wore a wig and a Rand Paul t-shirt as part of a false-flag operation. Nobody is buying your meme fool."

She wore it because she had been to previous events protesting Paul's political stands and knew they were watching for her.

But, whether she was wearing a wig or not...what in the world does that have to do with what this cretin did to her?

Are you suggesting it's okay for a grown man, after she's already on the ground and immobilized, to stomp on a woman's (or anybody's for that matter) head or neck?

Jeremy said...

Sal - "...rushing a candidate she appeared to be dangerous, but not beat up."

But that's only what the Paul people say.

Here's her version:

"When Rand Paul's car arrived a couple of them stepped in front of me so I stepped off the curb to get around them to get back out front. At that point they started grabbing for me and I ran all the way around the car with them in pursuit. The footage is after I've run all the way around the car and I'm in front of the car and that is when they took me down. One or two people twisted my arms behind my back and took me down... It was about two-to-three second after that that another person stomped on my head. And I lay there for 20 seconds or so and my partner Alex came and got me up and that's the point where there is the media clip of me speaking."

Shameful on both sides, but it's interesting how Obama's promises about post-partisanship has followed by how he's attacking Republicans as "enemies" now, even as he calls for civility.

Hopefully we'll get beyond next Tuesday without serious violence from the hotheads on either side. Unfortunately, the Left has set the bar so low for rank hypocrisy and political divisiveness that the current election cycle has become toxic to the body politic.

To wit:

"But what you don’t deserve is another election that’s governed by fear, and innuendo, and division. What you won’t hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of politics that uses religion as a wedge, and patriotism as a bludgeon – that sees our opponents not as competitors to challenge, but enemies to demonize."
Senator Barack Obama - June 3, 2008

"And if Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, we're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us..."
President Barack Obama Oct 25, 2010

"We don’t mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back.”
President Barack Obama Oct 25,

Obviously Obama doesn't see the irony of using the POTUS "bully pulpit" to deliver racially divisive language immediately after lecturing kids about bullying.

Wow.

What interesting "debate" tactics from American right wingers.

Firstly we have video proof from the right wing "news" media wing of the GOP which shows a woman thrown to the ground and stepped on and they cry "fake"!!

Now none of those who did this have the honesty and integrity to admit they were wrong now that the person involved has admitted doing it and the victim has pressed charges, even though they said they would.

We also have a man who admits to being a senior, who expects respect from the person he is "debating" but fails to rise above the level of a fourteen year old spotty insular teen with cheese puff encrusted fingers demanding that his opponent go and masturbate because he is getting too excited.

I suppose this is the sort of thing that happens when you allow the main media voices of your political ideology to be a racist, sexist, mysogenistic, thrice divorced, sex holidaying, half deaf drug addict or a racist former drug addict and alcoholic paranoid delusionalist believer in conspiracy theories with a messiah complex.

Or Sarah Palin.

Anyway, now that the woman has pressed charges and the police want to question this man for assault i'm sure all the right wingers here would be ready to offer a heartfelt apology before going off snd pretending to be outraged about something else bright and shiny, just as you were with the New York not-a-mosque. :-)

Hey, HD, garage, 1jpb, and Alpha, is your sympathy only for the woman from Moveon.org, or did you save a little for the other woman why was assaulted after the Kentucky senatorial debate?

"The second [incident] occurred after a Conway supporter stepped on the foot of a female Rand supporter, who recently had foot surgery, according to police.

The woman was wearing a surgical boot, but after the injury, her incision was cut open. Police say she refused medical treatment and also filed an assault report.
"

I can't help but notice that the alleged assault on the woman from Moveon.org happened to an able-bodied woman while the alleged assault by the Conway support was against a woman recovering from an injury. I think we can safely conclude that Conway supporters are a bit cowardly, since he couldn't even bring himself to assault (allegedly assault, sorry) an able-bodied woman, and definitely could not work up the courage to assault (oops, forgot the word "allegedly" again!) a grown man.

Any sympathy from you far-to-the-left-of-center liberals for the injured female Rand Paul supporter? How about it FLS? Do you only feel sympathy for left-wing loonies that get knocked down, not ordinary center-right citizens who are injured for exercising their First Amendment rights?

Re-reading the Thread of all threads reveals a redundancy. The Dems are smarter than Rand Paul true believers. But its too late to stop their victory here and their triumphant parade. BUT, it is only one defeat. The trick is to make conservatives violate their own principles against violence against innocent women. The trick worked because no one trained the followers to resist an isolated and angry attitude that is a part of the Paul's cult. That reminds me of the divorce lawyer that instructs his female client to call the soon to be ex-husband and cuss him out using wild threats and lies and then hang up. The un-trained husband then calls right back and when she sweetly says hello, she hears his 5 minute tirade cussing her back out; and she records every word for playback to the Judge. The Tea party/GOP will have to deal with their Rand Paul problem later after his election to gets them the Senate back. The battle was Alpha's today, but the wars will be ours Tuesday. The secret is to act like Reagan and say there you go again and show no wounded pride and anger back to the lies from your opponent, and then shake their hand as a superior man always does.

Also, it'd be wise to promise to never give up, but then months later wave the white flag of defeat to islamic terrorists after they killed hundreds of Americans.

This post is about how happy the incident has made lefty bloggers.....

I don't read a lot of partisan blogs, so I'll take your word for it that a lot of lefty bloggers are happy a woman got assaulted a her head stomped on.

But when did you, Althouse, ever critisize InstaPundit for being obviously happy when he pushed links to reports of assaults on right-wing protestors to blog about?

I would think you'd make sure to be critical of InstaPundit about that kind of thing before you criticize any left blog, seeing as how InstaPundit gives you so much traffic. Otherwise it gives the appearance that you're on a partisan "team". Had you been critical of InstaPundit when he was acting gleeful about various incidents, I'd consider you more sincere when you try and dismiss this incident on the basis of how happy you allege certain left blogs are that this occurred.

Remember the spitting incident back when health insurance reform was being passed. Talk about a lie getting halfway around the world before the truth can put on its sneakers.

I'm not sure if it was proven to be a lie or not. What I do know is that you, Althouse, very quickly brushed under the rug the other hate-speech incident that occurred that day at that Tea Party event, when Barney Frank says he was called a "faggot" by a pack of Tea Partiers. If my memory is correct, a reporter for Politico heard this slur being hurled at Frank.

blackbelt_jones said...

I just looked at the video again, and I definitely saw a head stomp. Profitt's heel hits her head through the jacket, causing the head to impact the pavement. It's hella awful!

For me, the fact that Profitt had the temerity to explain that it wasn't really as bad as it looked on TV pretty much settled my opinion of him. Maybe it says something about Rand Paul and the tea partiers that the Bourbon County coordinator for the Paul campaign is THIS MUCH OF A DOUCHEBAG, but it doesn't say anything definitive, so I don't want to politicize this too much. If I'd been watching enough Glenn Beck, I might be looking for Marxist killers in every corner, and I might be inclined to think that an unarmed woman is a threat to the candidate because she was wearing a wig. But I wouldn't stomp on her head when she'd been taken down. There's really no one ultimately responsible for Profitt's douchebaggery than Profitt himself.

They say she was "disguised", but several women I know wear wigs all the time, including my 72 year old mother. Who was she supposed to be disguised as? A blonde? Do blondes get special access to the candidate?

What this points to most is the fact that campaigns need to train operatives to make appropriate judgements in these situations and show appropriate force.

blackbelt_jones said...

blackbelt_jones said...

Alex, you're an ass. I'm sorry, didn't I just say that I didn't want to politicize it too much, that Profitt alone was ultimately responsible, that this calls up the need for better training? Don't you think that's what I'd be saying if it had happened the other way around?

But now you've gone and said that she deserved to get her concussion, and that's pretty horrible. And NOW it's been politicized!

So, you think stomping on women is cool, Mr. Patriot? Because you believe in the constitution? You're a disgrace.

I'm going to quote your little rant everywhere I go, for the rest of my life. I've already coped it to my dropbox, so i won't lose it. I don't ever want to forget what a terrible person you are.

LoafingOaf said...

Dear Lord. Althouse is such a tool for the Tea Party now it's not even funny. The guy stomps down on her with his foot in the video. That wasn't just to "restrain" her. It was to violently punish her.

I'm glad Althouse updated to inform her readers that her original theory was false. Perhaps she should email InstaPundit and tell him to do the same. Apparently he is suddenly incapable of updating his post with the truth.

This is a very interesting bit of leftard sociology going on here. First of all, I'm not going to make an equivalency argument against anyone on the right attacking a moveon.org kook. Assault is assault regardless of who it's committed on unless it's justified and frankly from what I've seen so far, it isn't in any way. Charge the people involved with a crime and let them deal with the consequences.

With that being said, the leftard screech-fest happening here is astounding. Outside of the this tactic being a regular enterprise by leftard organizations and specifically leftard union organizations that I've shown before on this very blog against AlphaLiars little outrage-horror to the contrary, this bit of assault in the grand scheme vs. how leftards do it is nothing.

What is interesting is how the leftards here are collectively up in arms about this, but yet didn't or haven't said a word about leftard assaults and not even during election time. In the end this will mean nothing but basically end up becoming leftard youtube fodder about right wing attacks. I have no real evidence... other than news articles that say she was treated for a concussion.

So let's see. It just keeps getting better. The stomper is Rand Paul's bourbon county coordinator. A criminal summons has been issued.

And better! Last night I read Valle's assertion that these men knew her from other events, which would make the attack seem premeditated, and seriously undercut the notion that they thought she was a threat to Paul's safety, if she could prove it, but that seemed like a stretch.

Except that Profitt, who is clearly no rocket scientist, has already admitted as much to the media! In fact, he says he went to police, told them that Valle was a protester "about to do something", and the police refused to intervene, saying it wasn't their job.

So, it appears that the issue was not physical danger to Rand Paul. Profitt wanted to prevent Valle's admittedly obnoxious but perfectly legal gesture from happening.

I would like to draw your attention to my first post in this thread, where I stated that it would be wrong to overly politicize this. What changed my mind? Well here's just one example:

"Yes, those librul fascists had it coming. And, those accomplice lburl fascist police wouldn't do their job in KY, so a Rand libertarian had to step up."

or:

"You know, I hope he DID stomp her head into the ground because that's what she deserved for being a traitorous Alinskyite, Commie douchebag."

or

"stomping Alinskyite stooges, whatever the gender is a patriotic duty."

A "libtard screechfest" is what this becomes when you magically remove the denials, rationalisations, sick jokes, and deranged "'attaboys".

It's naive to think that there can be some idiot liberal behaving badly by being violent. And that's a bad thing.

What made this a political issue for me was a general unwillingness to acknowledge that stomping on someone's head is a bad thing, and so is stomping on someone's neck. I find that extremely troubling, and for me, it elevates the meaning of this event.

I see that it doesn't apply to you, and I want to acknowledge that. You said that it was wrong, and not justified. Good for you.

And this is precisely the point where you slander the Professor and a lot of the rest of us. The woman belongs to an organization that is well-known for political theater. That made more than a few of us skeptical that this was anything more than pre-planned theater. As it happened, it really was a Rand Paul supporter who threw her to the ground, but he seems to have had a good reason to believe that he was acting in defense of another person (namely Paul). But until that person was identified (and note that he came forward on his own -- he gets points from me if not from you) we couldn't know that he wasn't part of a piece of street theater.

If it had been me instead of him, I'd probably have used Tomoe Nage or one of the guruma throws, depending on where I was positioned relative to her. And I'd probably control her with an arm bar. No head "stomp" but she wouldn't have much enjoyed it, either.

Back around 8:50 1jpb and I had a short exchange where I pointed out that the biddy from Moveon was not the only woman injured at the debate, that a female Rand Paul was injured when a Conway supporter stomped on her foot, which was encased in a surgical boot. Since the woman swore out a complaint of her own we can assume that the Conway supporter was alleged to be acting deliberately to injure.

Can I assume you condemn that act as strongly as you condemn the alleged assault on the Moveon professional provocateur?

Of course not. Rand Paul supporters should not only have their surgically repaired feet stomped, but cut open and eviscerated. Hell just put them all in gas chambers already. *gurgle*

Not quite as strongly, assuming that the Conway supporter was not acting on behalf of the Conway campaign, but of course, if the injury was the result of a deliberate assault, it deserves to be roundly condemned and prosecuted. Of course! Jesus, what else is there to do?

I love how you guys *aggressively" backtrack. First it was all staged. Then she was a threat to Rand Paul's safety. Now she's a "professional provocateur". You keep retreating, but you maintain an attack posture.

Oh golly gee willikers. Can I get a cookie and a pat on the head for being a good little conformist to your excreted notions of morality? High praise indeed. I don't need your approval for what is clearly wrong and for me calling it out as being wrong. I took the video at face value. If other evidence comes up that says this moron deserves the curb stomp, then I might change my tune, but I certainly don't need your patronizing approval now do I?

OMG! Whne did it become acceptable for a MAN to commit battery on a WOMAN?? ANY woman? are you KIDDING?? If she had been a 350 lb 6 foot four MAN, it would still be unacceptable! and this is in the South, where men are expected to be GENTLEMEN! the stompers need to spend a year in jail, each. FEH!

All of this (hopefully phony)outrage reminds me of something Megan McArdle wrote the other day:Here

"I really do think that we would go farther if we were more charitable to our opponents. There are very few people in the world who are simply mean and deliberately ignorant, and telling ourselves otherwise is simply flattering our own vanity: our opponents must be awful people, because otherwise they couldn't possibly oppose our wise and wonderful plans.

I'm not speaking specifically about Henry here--I don't think it much matters whether he likes me, or I him. But this is really what I was trying to get at the other day, when I blogged about all the anger on the web. Maybe it's not very novel, but for whatever reason, it bothers me more right now. And what bothers me more is that people seem to spend so much time looking to get angry--or so I judge by what blogs, and blog posts, succeed."

I noticed since this "stomping" happened, about 30-40 new trolls appeared. They must have been sent from Daily Kos.
