You got Ohio's sunshine.
The third photo brings to mind statues/busts from the Muppets. I expect them to start talking among themselves and then break into a barbershop quartet song with Kermit.
Too bad for R. Dean Taylor that Bill Delahunt wasn't the DA in Indiana...Indiana Wants MeIf a man ever needed dyin' he didNo one had the right to say what he said about youAnd it's so cold and lonely here without youOut there the laws are comingI'm scared and so tired of runningIndiana wants me, Lord I can't go back thereIndiana wants me, Lord I can't go back thereI wish I had you, to talk toIt hurts to see the man that I've becomeAnd to know I'll never see the morning sunshine on the landI'll never see your smiling face, or touch your handIf just once more I could seeYou, our home, and our little babyIndiana wants me, Lord I can't go back thereIndiana wants me, Lord I can't go back there, ohI wish I had you, to talk toI hope this letter finds its way to youForgive me love for the shame I put you throughAnd all the tears Hang on love to the memories of those happy yearsRed lights are flashin' around meYea love it looks like they found meIndiana wants me, Lord I can't go back there("This is the police, you are surrounded, give yourself up")Indiana wants me, Lord I can't go back there("This is the police, give yourself up, you are surrounded")Indiana wants me, Lord I can't go back there("This is DA Delahunt, you can go home now, your file is lost and all is forgiven")
It's sunny in The Hoosier State? All the weather shows is snow showers for 10 days over here.Proving once again not only that everybody loves a lover, but God loves Meadhouse.HKatz said... Did you announce "Lafayette, we are here!" when you arrived, in imitation of Pershing?According to family legend, my g-g-grandmother's brother went to Paris to study medicine in the 1820's and got an introduction to Lafayette on the strength of his last name, Washington (5th cousin of George). My late uncle had silhouettes of both of them that had been made by David and a stockpin with a miniature of George that Laf. had given him.
"That third one caught my eye as well. "L to R: George Rogers Clark, George Washington, Tecumseh
Anyone know the history of these buildings? Are they WPA creations? Are there any artists left on the public payroll that would do a stiring rendition of the founders today? Is there a Carnegie library in town? Seems we have very little of substance that lasts generations. Maybe we can find it in these smaller communities. Very nice. Thank you for all these pictures. You've a wonderful eye.
Tecumseh must have made a big impression around there. They say that General Sherman was named for Tecumseh the warrior, and that William was added later.
The Battle of Tippecanoe was fought near the town in 1811 against Tecumseh's Indian confederation. It's curious that he gets a head but not Harrison.I'm guessing the building dates to before WWI, when farm income reached a peak in the US. Very well done, especially for a not very big county.Added: Wiki says 1881. Quite a mix of styles: Tippe
I have a photo of a mural of Harrison that I'll put up soon.
Did you tell us why you picked Lafayette for your second date? Half way in between?
