Kos writes: "Brown has been caught in a vice. His support from teabaggers was critical to becoming competitive...."

Does Kos think teabagging is a vice? I can't see what it has to do with (the admittedly handsome) Scott Brown, but it certainly is a reflection on Kos! Shouldn't a liberal be more accepting of various sexual practices? Why is he being so puritanical? Really, I am surprised that he's so judgmental about teabagging that he would call it a vice — as if it were depraved, wicked, and sinful.

Now, maybe if you put my head in a vise and screwed it in far enough, I'd admit that I knew what Kos was trying to say, but for now, my view is that he is an reactionary prig.

So Kos says Brown had his teabag caught in a vice? That is as cruel as the slat chair at the beach in last weeks post. Brown must have fallen asleep and the sun warmed up his teabag. Massachusetts politics is way more fun than most places, and the Kennedys are not even running this time. And has anyone noticed the physical resemblance between Scot Brown and Todd Palin. That alone could stop Brown's chances if revealed to the adroit Massachusetts voters.

I can't figure out what Kos's criticism actually is. As near as I can tell he is saying that Brown has to deal with multiple constituencies, some of which have opposing agendas. In other words, Kos just defined politics and said that this is a problem for a politician. (It's like saying that the problem with this Doctor is that he has to deal with patients who might be sick.)

From Kos: The teabaggers demand ideological purity

No, they demand integrity and action. Kos is confusing the Tea Party with religious conservatives and liberals, especially "greens."

The point of the tea party movement is that too many Republicans ran as fiscal conservatives and then voted for largess.

(I wouldn't be surprised if the tea party movement gets hijacked by religious conservatives, but that's not the case now, even if there is much overlap.)

Why are you intentionally avoiding the shoving story? That is a pretty interesting story and worth blogging about.

As far as Kos goes, what was he saying a week out last November before Corzine and Deeds got shellacked? I refuse to give the little scumbag's site any hits. So if anyone who does read him could tell me I would appreciate it. My guess is that he was talking about how much trouble the Republicans were in in those elections as well.

It is funny that Kos started as an insurgent in the Democratic party and now five years later is exactly the kind of party hack he claimed to hate in the beginning. I wonder what he got in exchange for his soul.

Dems are prepared to do whatever it takes..

BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts's top election official says it could take weeks to certify the results of the upcoming U.S. Senate special election. That delay could let President Barack Obama preserve a key 60th vote for his health care overhaul even if the Republican who has vowed to kill it wins Democrat Edward M. Kennedy's former seat.

Ann Althouse said...

"Why are you intentionally avoiding the shoving story?"

Because after watching the video twice, I can't tell what really happened. There was a bustle outdoors, in a crowd, in a situation that can feel like pushing but can simply be protecting the candidate from the crowd I think this detracts from the issue of who the voters should support.

John said...

Lem,

That is what they are saying. And I have no doubt the Mass Dems will drag their feet swearing in Brown if he wins. But I don't buy for a minute the national Dems will pass Obamacare while holding up Brown.

If Brown wins, the effects will be earth shattering. A Dem losing Ted Kennedy's Senate seat will scare the living crap out of every Dem office holder in the country. They will jump ship and sink Obamacare you watch.

There is really an odd symmetry to it. Obama was sworn in the Tuesday after MLK day 2009. His Presidency may effectively end and all hell break loose exactly 365 days later.

Now the staffer, Michael Meehan, sends over a statement admitting error (though not conceding bullying) and saying he also apologized directly to the Standard reporter, John McCormack:

Last evening I was a little too aggressive in the confusion of trying to help the Attorney General get to her car and catch a flight.

I clearly did not intend to cause John McCormack to trip and fall over that low fence. As the video shows and he confirms in his blog, I stopped to help him up and make sure he was OK.

I talked with Mr. McCormack this afternoon and apologized for my part.

John said...

Why do you feel the need to mention if he has insurance and the fact that he is black? Do you just hate the poor? Have a problem with black people? We get the dog whistle here. Black people are no account uninsured bums looking to make an easy score with an ambulance chasing lawyer.

Just saying that's an issue that voters should care about. She could have answered the question instead. It's important because it's happening a lot and it is potentially very dangerous politics. The idea of violence in politics is only scary when the right is accused of it. Otherwise, no big deal.

Certainly more important than whether Brown is sexy or not.

If you watch the video, you don't see what happened, but you do hear that his hitting the fence made a lot of noise. If Coakley had been looking ahead while walking, as is natural, she might well have not seen her staff member assault the reporter, and just looked over after the assault took place.

Based on what is visible in the picture, it's even possible there was no assault. The reporter could have tripped entirely on his own, or been accidentally tripped by her staff member. ( I'm not saying I believe that. Based on the video and the reporter's statement I'd certainly convict if I was on a jury. ( and no compelling contradictory evidence was presented. )
