Congrats! I am glad you came to Colorado to marry. It's pretty, isn't it?
Those clouds... Is there *a storm gathering*?
This is almost one of those "If I saw this in a movie, I wouldn't believe it" stories...Wonderful!
I never wept such happy tears!
Field of wildflowers? How cliché...But seriously, that's pretty awesome. The views out there are just amazing. We have the Aspens just after they turned in our photos, it always takes my breath away.
It looks like the sky is about to break into a gigantic rainbow.Congratulations to you both.
Congrats! And what a beautiful setting.
As beautiful as any grand church.
What would PBS play for Althouse Bach: The Cello Suites?maybe... I know I would.
Congratulations! Is it just me, or does that first picture look a whole lot like the place where Howard Keel takes Jane Powell right after their wedding in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers? Just asking....
Andrés Segovia plays Bach
Beautiful. Thanks for the photo.
Congratulations to you both. Congratulations on falling in love unexpectedly. Congratulations on marrying unconventionally. May you live together in happiness, seeking, finding and revealing beautiful cafes forever.

Congratulations to Meade! I wish you both endless years of happiness.
So sorry I didn't know how to make that link open in a new window so you could hear the song AND follow the words.
To Professor Althouse.Dearest Madam,Altho' by every Propriety I ought to address this Epistle to both You & Mr Meade as Wife & Husband, I cannot forbear to send a few Lines to You alone, as the one who hath giv'n me, a poor Ghost of a Man, dead these 260 Years and more, Occasion to strut upon the Stage of this, your Theatre of Topicks (as I call it). That you, Madam, have kept this Theatre open and not shutter'd against such vagabond Spirits as may seek its Entertainments, nay its Warmth & Shelter, inclines you toward the Gratitude of your extensive Audience thus assembl'd. That you had done it so well, inclines you to Fame amongst a Multitude. It is not therefore, Madam, that You are descended from the Great or the Wealthy, nor on the Account of the Academick Rank You hold, nor for those Charms with which Nature hath so profusely adorn'd your Person; but for those innate Graces which neither Ancestry nor Riches can give, no Academick Degrees can embellish, nor no Beauty attone for the Want of, that the World has sought You out, and daily makes, in its Measure, a Claim to your Acceptance. That Promise which the first Years of Life gave of a glorious Maturity, we have seen compleated through your Perspicacity & Energy long before You arriv'd at an Age, which in others is requisite to ripen Wit into Wisdom, and concise the sparkling Ideas of the one with the the correcting Judgment of the other.—We beheld with Admiration, how Reason outstrip'd Nature even in the most minute Circumstances & Actions; but the Crown of all, was the happy Choice of a Partner in that State which is the chief End of our Beings.——There shone your Penetration, when among so many Admirers, You singled out Him who alone was worthy of you.—One, who is more Good than Great in the World, and yet who has given such Instances how much it is in the Power of Virtue to ennoble any State, as all must admire, though few I fear will imitate.MARRIAGE, too long the Jest of Fools, and prostituted to the most base and sordid Aims, to You, Illustrious Pair! owes its recover'd Fame, and proves its Institution is indeed divine! But this is no more that what every one is full of; and in writing You this, I can only boast of being one amongst the Millions who pray that Length of Days and uninterrupt'd Health may continue that Happiness to which nothing can be added, and that, I am, Dear Madam, Your most Humble Most obedient, and most Faithfully Devoted Servant, Sir Archy.

and finally.LINDA RONSTADT - "SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME"Congratulations and many happy returns.
I see that Lem et. al have done a fine job of posting a playlist for the imaginary reception. (Maybe someone should put together a (digital) mixtape of these songs for the happy couple for the ride back.)It's probably a good thing the wedding wasn't in a traditional venue, or I (bum leg and all) would have offered to lead the band for the reception. (As it is, even if they'd decided to invite the commentariat to their beautiful venue of choice in Colorado, my recently surgically-repaired knee isn't hiking up a mountain anytime soon.)Great photos again, Althouse. And you didn't even have to pay the wedding photographer!
Congratulations Ann and Meade. What beautiful pictures, and what beautiful feelings they evoke.
RE: Wedding MusicAlthough I've never heard it played at a wedding reception, I think REM's "It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine" could be appropriate as a wedding song. The world as was known by the bride and groom prior to getting hitched, is over. And yet- thanks in part to champagne and lack of foresight- they feel fine. On the morning of our big day, my soon-to-be-spouse and I awoke to Moby's cover of "That's when I reach for my revolver" , playing on the radio. Some may have taken it as a bad omen. We call it our wedding song. After twelve years, and no gunplay, we still feel fine. Here's to hoping that you two are able to say the same after twelve years together.Congratulations!
Congratulations to you both.May you have a long and happy time together.
My only advice is to cherish your times playing in the dungeon and the sling. It will only help your relationship grow stronger.
What everyone upthread said. Congratulations.
Oh lord! Will there be pictures of the soiled sheets next?
My wife and I chose the Beatles' "When I'm sixty-four" as our wedding song. We'll, 20+ years later we're past that point and still together. Here's wishing you all the best to 64 and way beyond.
Congrats and good luck.
Congratulations and best wishes for many happy years together. I always cry at weddings, and here I sit over a bagel at Panera with wet eyes and 2 people looking at me curiously.
Just popped in to say congratulations! You couldn't have picked a prettier place than Colorado in the summer, that's for sure.
That picture is wonderful! And, of course, congratulations!
El DeBarge?! Good lord.
Congratulations. Extra special congratulations on the determinedly anti-Harlequin nature of your courtship and marriage. Many literate women try to write an updated Jane Austen novel, but you seem to be actually living in one.
Wow, Lem. I'm not a Bjork fan, but that just may have convinced me to give her another look. Or listen.Whatever. Second chances are wonderful things.
Dang. I just watched a Bjork video four times in a row. It's true: Anything is possible!(And that's as close to describing how I felt after I met my future [and present] husband as anything I've ever seen or heard. Which is saying something.)
A song which I played often in those early days (the album was released the month we met) and which I'd link here is unavailable on YouTube. It's by Adrian Belew, from "Inner Revolution" and while the lyrics alone don't really capture why I liked "Big Blue Sun" so much, in context, here they are anyway:When the summer clouds roll around the skyAnd a strand of stars sparkle in the nightLet me take your worry from youLet me make a world around youLet me love you like nobody ever triedWhen the lazy days come to lay around the lakeAnd the rays of the sun run among the wavesDon't you think about tomorrowDon't you drink a drop of sorrowDon't you look upon the past or wonder whyLet it roll down your shoulderLet it fall on the floorI'll be loving you like the water loves the shoreLet it fall from your fingersLet it go, let it comeI'll be loving you like the summer loves the big blue sunWhen the summer clouds roll aroundThe stars in the nightAnd the lazy days lay aroundThe morning lightLet me take your worry from youLet me make a world around youLet me love you like nobody ever triedLet it roll down your shoulderLet it fall on the floorI'll be loving you like the water loves the shoreLet it fall from your fingersLet it go, let it comeI'll be loving you like the summer loves the big blue sunIt sort of works with your picture, doesn't it Althouse?
Congratulations and best wishes.
Thank you, to everyone, for all the kind words and congratulations! (And to the few who had less than kind words... thanks for your attention.)
Congrats Ann and Meade.
Thanks for all the good wishes!"Platinum or "white" gold?"Platinum, mainly dictated by the diamond engagement ring. They make them in platinum to show off the colorlessness of the diamond.
Wonderful, wonderful. Your post is pure poetry. Best wishes to the bride, and congratulations to the groom!
Very romantic. I love it. Congrats.
Aaaack!!!Not the return of the fisheye :(That issue aside, congratulations to you and Meade and may you both enjoy a long and happy union!
How very nice. Congratulations and a long and happy marriage.
Beautiful. Hooray, hooray, best wishes. A song I like to sing at weddings: Mairi's Wedding. Plenty herring, plenty meal, plenty peat to fill your creel.
Congrats! For some reason I thought you were married about six months ago.Well, better it's 3 years that feel like six months that six months that feel like 3 years...
Best of luck to both of you. Many happy years.
Yes, wonderful. And I think the blog readers have benefited greatly from this union.
Wow,I never married and I find every day to be an anniversary of that--a cause for celebration.
May it be 3X10. Congratulations!!!
Very nice, a good love story.
Still newlyweds, how wonderful! Congrats!
I'll bet your husband is a lucky guy.
A reason to celebrate August 3. Thanks I needed that. Congratulations.
Nice. Very nice.Who married you up there? Grizzly Adams?
The picture makes me think of George Winston's Blossom and Meadow, a beautiful song.
"Who married you up there? Grizzly Adams?"Close. It was Jeremiah Johnson, actually. Jeremiah Johnson, who was channeling Barry Goldwater.
