Obama says: "I won."

Ha ha. I hope he says that a lot. He needs some catchphrases, and that one is so amusingly reminiscent of Richard Nixon's "I am the President."

"I won," Obama said to 7 civilians in Pakistan today, as he wracked up his first kills of civilians.

The new president used US Military drones in a country that Congress, nor the UN, has declared war on.

Change.

He is correct. Now that he won he is the executive for 4 years. But these Repubs. are asserting the check and balance of Congress to him. He just gets that cheshire cat grin.I think he knows that no one will check or balance him.The news media is now the last line of check and balance. How will he stonewall them? Stay tuned for next weeks TV episode of As Obama's world Turns.

Man, oh man.

This is going to be a wild ride. Obama is going to be the hardest hard ass of the bunch, and he'll have Rahm holding them down while he kicks them.

This is going to make Bush seem like Mr. Rogers by the time its over...

Is that code for "I'm the one?"

“How can you spend hundreds of millions of dollars on contraceptives?” Boehner asked. “How does that stimulate the economy?”

Boehner said congressional Republicans are also concerned about the size of the package.

“Government can’t solve this problem,” he said.

Reid said a Congressional Budget Office report that says the stimulus funds won’t be pumped into the economy until 2010 doesn’t provide an accurate picture.

Do I have a dirty mind?

To the victor go the spoils.

"I won" sort of has an infantile quality about it, though. Surely he can class it up a bit.

Charity said...

Are you serious that you hope he says that a lot? It seems rather immature to me.

So that's what he means by ending partisan fights? Shut up and do it my way. I won.

Do we get a neener-neener-neener with that?

So THAT was Bush's problem. He forgot to remind the Dems in congress that he "won." If only he had said, then the media would have been much more understanding.

Yes, you won, so why don't you

Bring the troops home NOW

Close Gitmo NOW

Find and kill Bin Laden NOW

These are three things you said you would do that don't need congressional approval. 900,000 dead due to American action in the Middle East and still you keep our troops there? Same on you Mr President.

DaLawGiver said...

Same or shame, either one works.

I'm thinking this is the perfect way to start the next State of the Union address: "Mr. Vice President, Madam Speaker, distinguished guests, assorted Supremes, Representatives, and everybody I left languishing in the Senate - especially you, McCain - I won."

Wince said...

There's not a dime's width difference between that and calling yourself "the decider."

Actually, "I won" presumes to arrogate more power to the executive.

Bush was talking about the make-up of his Cabinet, specifically whether Rumsfeld would stay.

Obama's talking about fiscal policy, where the congress is supposed to be co-equal if not predominant.

That was a totally outrageous comment. I for one am furious and I am going to vent...a lot. How disrespectful and unpatriotic. How much of a terrorist is he, really? Commie bastard. And he only won thanks to people in jail and dead people voting so he really didn't win anything.

Words can't describe how angry I am right now about those comments. I am furious. I hope he fails, which he will, and then this country will be a third world country. What's next? Is he going to nationalize banks? Fucking commie.

Today's NY Times says it all ... Obama is a murderer:

ISLAMABAD — Two missile attacks launched from unmanned American aircraft killed at least 15 people in western Pakistan on Friday, suggesting that the strategy of using drones to kill people inside Pakistan’s borders would continue under President Obama.

But the attacks have also struck civilians, enraging Pakistanis and making it more difficult for the country’s shaky government to win support as its military carries out operations against Taliban guerrillas in Pakistan’s lawless border regions."

So, there you have it folks. The NY Times today reports that Barak Obama is using US military drones to torture innocent civilians in Pakistan, by dropping bombs on them from unmanned aircraft.

Torturing them so severely that they're dying from their wounds.

When do we start the impeachment proceedings?

Obama won. True enough, but Republicans in Congress won too.

A trillion dollar stimulus bill could probably be buldozed through Congress without any Republican votes. But then if the economy still craters, the fortuned of the Democratic party will follow suit.

It would be smart politics to pass a bill that gets a bunch of Republican votes. Lets you share the blame if it doesn't work-out.

Republicans need to be reminded that their ideas are worthless and unpopular.

Like warrantless wiretapping.?

During the campaign, Obama frequently promised to work across party lines to get things done. He has proven - perhaps in record time - that he was lying. Nothing in his record indicates he has ever worked across party lines. Now that he's president, he isn't going to change now.

In the future BHO should toss out his thinking, and then replace it w/ whatever Boehner says. If that guy finds out that his side is losing the support of the electorate there will be no end to the waterworks. BHO, should protect sensitive feelings by keeping his (and other D's) victory on the DL around Boehner (and some commenting at Althouse.)

P.S.
Does Boehner have foriegn cars on his government website? Seems odd. Those must be new American cars I don't know (or maybe they're cars from foreign companies that are owned by one of the big three.)

Obama's right. He won, and Republicans are in the minority in Congress. He doesn't have to listen to them if he doesn't want to.

On the other hand, it would be smart politics to make sure there are Republican fingerprints on the so-called "stimulus package", especially since it isn't going to work.

"But perhaps taking a cue from Obama’s “I won” line when Democrats were asked if they were concerned about Republicans blocking the package, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had a swift one-word answer: “No.”"

If the economy doesn't come around, I bet they decline to take sole credit for whatever bill gets passed. Election in 2 years, they might keep that in mind and at least pretend to be bipartisan.

War was declared. As (Democratic) Vice President of the United States (and then-Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee) Joe Biden pointed out in a speech delivered on October 22, 2001, a Congressional authorization for the use of military force is the exact Constitutional equivalent of a “declaration of war,” so titled.

As the text of the AUMF ratified on September 18, 2001, put it:

“[T]he President is authorized to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons.”

Pakistan — where Al Qaeda as well as Taliban fighters (organizations and individuals who “planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001”) are based in and fighting out of — is thus included under the terms of the AUMF passed by Congress.

Yes, Obama won. However, he won the presidency. The Republicans in the Congress who were re-elected also won, and have a duty not only to their voters but to the country at large to stand against something if they truly believe it is wrong.

Anyone read David Brooks' column today? Or saw the Obama Administration drone yesterday on Capital Hill who couldn't guarantee that EVEN ONE JOB would be created if the $1 trillion stimulus bill was enacted?

I want the country to succeed. If that means Obama comes up with a realistic package that will help, then I'm all for it, and him. However, if what we've seen since Tuesday is what the next four years are going to look like, then Obama will join Jimmy Carter as an unsuccessful one-term president.

Geithner, Hillary, Holder... are these really the best folks Obama can get? If so, we're up the proverbial creek.

This Obama guy needs to get a grip.

Cheers,

P.S.: I just realised that Krauthammer is totally wrong.

The most striking characteristic of Barack Obama is not his nimble mind, engaging manner or wide-ranging intellectual curiosity. It's the absence of neediness.

He may not be needy, but he's vengeful and petty. WORSE.

Noel said...

Sigh. Is it really so hard for you guys to understand this? Do you want to hate Obama? Do you want this presidency to fail?

I can't think of any reason why this comment would be negative in any shape or form.

Bush was so lame that when the entire system was crumbling and John McCain "rushed" to Washington to get money into banks nothing passed because Republicans wanted carrots.

It took a whole lot of pork before any money kept your local Bank of America open.

The system needs more money. I don't care what you think in between your ignoring the obvious and criticizing the intelligent.

5 seconds of reading and a teaspoon of perspective would have lead you to the fact that Republicans are fighting Obama's stimulus after he's already conceded plenty of "carrots"

They want more, they want to change this and cut that, they want to delay things and prolong Bush's tax plan.

"I won" Obama said finally.

Here's the meaning you bunch of geniuses.

America has decided that the Republican philosophy of governing is incorrect.

America wants a Democrat (many Democrats) to run the country, because they disagree with the philosophy that Republicans push.

In plain Fuc&!ng english, Obama wants to delete Bush's tax cuts.

Republicans are fighting it.

Obama says "Enough" I've conceded you alot. Given you good parts here. But

"I won".

See how wonderful it is when adults speak?

Sheesh.

AllenS said...

Deleting Bush's tax cuts, simply means that Obama wants to tax everybody more. Which will mean less money for people to purchase items. Is that going to stimulate our economy?

You need to limit your flying head butts to once a day.

Jamie said...

Noel, of course I want Obama's presidency to fail, if his presidency will consist of his attempting to deliver all that he promised in his campaign: I want all his domestic policy prescriptions and proscriptions that seek to replace individual initiative with government incentives or, worse, flat-out handouts, to be voted down. I want all foreign policy moves that reek of appeasement of our enemies or pandering to our so-called "natural allies" to be repudiated. I want his new-New Deal ideas about job creation to be exposed as old and ill-considered. Naturally I want that presidency to fail.

What I want to succeed and prosper is the United States, of course. Couldn't you say the same during the Bush years? You wanted him to fail but the United States to prosper? Perhaps not you personally, but certainly many who wanted Bush to fail seemed to believe that the United States could not prosper absent his failure. I wouldn't go that far with Obama; he's still untried, and perhaps he'll just be ineffective in office. We'll see after a year or so whether his failure will be, in my opinion, a prerequisite for the good of the United States.

(I think, too, that if you're going to number Obama among the "adults" speaking in terms like "I won," he probably ought to have added, "In your face!" Sheesh, indeed.)

I support my President but I don't support his mission.

After the Towers crumbled and Congress sang "God Bless American" nothing passed because Democrats wanted delays.

It took a whole lot of dealing before Bush could get rid of Saddam.

Saddam had to go. I don't care what you think in between your ignoring the obvious and criticizing the intelligent.

5 seconds of reading and a teaspoon of perspective would have lead you to the fact that Democrats are fighting Bush's war aims after he's already conceded plenty

They want more, they want to change this and cut that, they want to delay things and prolong Saddam's rule.

"I'm the decider" Bush said finally.

Here's the meaning you bunch of geniuses.
