"When you get older, you have to be ready to trade your ass for your face."

This is an old saying, possibly originated by Catherine Deneuve, according to Gawker, which adds "Madonna has chosen her ass, which is why her face looks sucked dry of any possible joy."

Yes, but then it all just turns into yet another chance to shit on Cindy McCain. That Gawker! Such class!

Madonna is suffering from One Black Guy Too Many Syndrome.

These White women get worn out.

Oh. Thought it was a headline from another depressing Andrew Sullivan article.

Sun damages the skin, and Cindy McCain has accumulated the damage of spending her 54 years in Arizona.

Wear broad-brimmed hats, ladies. Slather on the sunscreen. Stay indoors during the afternoon.

She has the sickly and frail face of all* the folks you see in the health food section of a grocery store.

*Hyperbolic generalizations are fun.

Catherine is still one of the most beautiful women on Earth. That's just MHO.

Ouch! And yet...what a truly monstrous creature Madonna is. It's hard not to believe the old adage that age writes one's sins upon the face. I was always disappointed that gay culture made an icon out of her. We can do better.

You are absolutely right, Ernie. She is.

As for me, I'm not even "older" and I'm pretty sure this trade has already happened.

Perhaps it's just been pawned, and I can still get it back.

I think Madonna still looks great, but the botched cheek implants need to be removed ASAP. They looked great when she had extra weight on a few months ago, without the additional pounds they look terrible.

What did Hillary choose?

At first blush, I thought the story was going to be about skin grafts.

I saw a brief interview of Bo Derek on Hannity & Colmes during the primary season.

She has had no surgery and looked incredibly beautiful. She hasn't reached the 'trading' point in life.

Cindy McCain is only 54? I've never been older than the First Lady, and now I will be, one way or the other.

Raquel Welch is 68!!!!!

Madonna is a pure monster of willfulness.

Yeah, I'm halfway expecting to be older than the President for the first time. If not, I'll be older than the VP, anyway...

As for Madonna, she's always pinned the needle on my skank detector, so I'll continue to assert that I wouldn't cross the street to micturate upon her ass, were it somehow engulfed in flame or suchlike.

Madonna is in the process of developing a case of "The Zackleys". That's where your face looks zackley like your ass.

What are the chances that Cindy McCain hasn't had a face lift? If she's only 54 I'd say it's very high, and more power to her.

There are a lot of leathery looking women (and men) in the South West. And I will say that on a lot of them it looks really good. Authentic. Most of those faces are under the brim of a hat, too.

I first read this formula in an early 90's zine about pop culture snarkiness- the subject of the "face vs. ass" was Mary Tyler Moore.

She chose the capri pants.

Truth be known when men look at a woman's face they're thinking about her ass; so it's moot.

Well, in my case it will be a trade up so I can't wait.

That does mean, however, that I'll have to start shaving my ass.

Bunuel.

Once Sarah Palin gets elected, you won't be seeing no "art" movies like this no more.

Jdeeripper - she has obviously been following the Borgnine therapy regime!

Madonna is rapidly becoming the Phyllis Diller of her generation. Without the sense of humor.

I prefer a co-worker's mixed-metaphor malapropism: "It's time for us to put our ass where our mouth is."
