"We believe Sondra is especially deserving of this honor because of the spirited way she campaigned for the title."

Oh, really? That's what divas do now? Campaign for recognition?

One does not campaign to be a Diva--in fact that is the very antithesis of diva-dom--a diva IS --pure and simple.

Unsurprisingly, showing one's ass (literally) on one's blog is an effective strategy for winning the votes of internet nerds.

Fine, but does SondraK create vortex?

Puh.

The use of the pseudonym "jeweejewish" in combination with trolling in the comments looks anti-semitic to me. I consider his/her failure to leave to be in terrible bad faith.

Ann Althouse said...

I don't want to see that pseudonym here again.

Chip Ahoy said...

Why yes. So it says, qualities of a good diva.

You are concerned about the appearance of anti-semitism, yet when Cedarford goes on his long anti-semitic screeds parroting The Protocols of the Elders of Zion and blaming the Jews for all the problems of the world from communism to Naziism to the interstate highway system, you let it pass without comment.

Ann Althouse said...

Freder: I skim many of the comments, and if there is something in particular that you think I should delete, please email me. I would however make a distinction between someone stating an opinion, however stupid, which is there to be argued with, and someone using repeated epithets in an abusive way. I think Cedarford writes many interesting comments and is not trolling. I think some small portion of what he writes goes over the line, but people are right there to argue with him, and that is the standard free speech solution. "Jeweejewish" is not trying to debate, but trying to ruin the conversation. He's a troll. That's different.

Ann,

I warned you that you were slipping in the poll. You said you couldn't be bothered, you were much too busy. Then you lost, and not just lost, got creamed. Ninth place, Ann, you couldn't even hold your own against neo-neo-con.

A lot of faithful commentors may have to reconsider their relationship here, reputations are at stake. It's not just about you. Please think about that and try a little harder next vanity contest. Thank you.

I agree. campaigning to *be* a Diva is tacky. One either *is* or *is not*.

You will always be the Top Blogospheric Diva for me, Ann.

due to misunderstandings and miscommunications (between Bruce and me).

The diva competition on hold.

"Please think about that and try a little harder next vanity contest."

Wouldn't it make more sense for me to start a vanity contest and list a lot of bloggers' names to get them to send me traffic? How many times should I have linked to that contest and sent my readers over there? I feel I owe my first allegiance to my readers, and I try never to send people anywhere that I don't think provides them with value. Linking once is okay then, because it is amusing, but repeated linking violates my blogging values. Of course, then, one loses. The lesson is perhaps, don't link to contests where people are allowed to vote more than once.

Ann-

If it means anything ... *I* voted for you a number of times!

Sondra-who? Don't compete with non-entities.

Leah said...

Ann, You are classy, a real Diva. These contests are meant to be fun. Someone went overboard with her enthusiasm. Many of us regular GayPatriot posters voted for you. But we are no match for the rabble.
One reason for this competition is to make people aware of other great blogs out there. Though I doubt any regular GP reader is unfamiliar with you.

Who is this Sondra person? How diva-licious can she be if I've never even heard of her?

Ann Althouse said...

Thanks, Bruce and Leah.

Like any real diva, Althouse is ineffable.  She is in a class by herself.  To put her in a contest with other "blogress divas" is to compare the Guarnari String Quartet to a jug band.  A jug band may be amusing at times, but in her conversations Althouse can set in motion all the polyphony, formal rigor and emotional depth of a late Beethoven string quartet.  She can also preside over discussions with the lightness of touch of Schubert or the edgy eclecticism of Bartok.

Compared to this, the one-note squeakers on either the right or left side of the Blogosphere are like so many fifth grade ensembles parents and long-suffering music teachers have to endure this time of year.  The Blogospheric Elementary Band is playing "Jingle Bells" in the key of Bb, while over on Althouse we've just finsihed the Enigma Variations, and are moving on to Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra.  At the same time, in one side studio the string quartet is doing Dutilleux's Ainsi la Nuit, in another room some guys are working on a new version of Coltrane's A Love Supreme, and down the hall several people are playing and singing through old Dylan songs.

Elsewhere, I'm sure all the little girls and boys of the One-Note Blogosphere will be happy to stand and have everyone clap for them.

You are the Supremes of Divaness, your superstardomness reigns. I was only being a bit snarky.

On the other hand, now that I leafed through SondraK's site, and wow, damn. If that's her real sugarplum/picture (on the right), well its been nice Ann, but ...........

Actully, "Sondra's" site is a bit light, and a little snarky, even for me. However, I did see this link about GW skepticism that I would have otherwise missed:
http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Minority.SenateReport
It was difficult getting past her bare bottom.

I gave up on Sondra when she started worrying that seven year old British Muslim boys on holiday in Florida might be suicide bombers. The number of inbreds with guns on that site is disturbing.

JBC said...

Oh, this is real productive. I know the lefties who comment here have to love it, but is there any real point in firing the first, needless shot in a conservative internecine flame war?

SondraK said...

Wow.
How............shitty.

Some of us are just having fun.

Ann Althouse said...

Sondra, darling, divas don't say "shitty." May I suggest "appalling" or "tacky"?

Ann Althouse said...

And please, if I were up for a blogress diva catfight, I'd want Michelle Malkin.

Jennifer said...

At least she spelled it correctly. Much better than todaze shitty comment.

Anyone who posts a picture of Miss Joan Crawford on her web site is worthy of a vote. Unfortunately, I've already voted for Michelle Malkin. However, based solely on the recommendation of Gaypatriot.com, I've added you to my bookmarks, and shall read you everyday.

Sincerely,
Julie the Jarhead

Sondra rocks, becaus eshe does not look down on her loyal subjects.
BTW, since you corrected Sondra...
How incredibly tacky of you!

I expected to see a little class over here and didn't even see that.

Really, not only do we get lots of information on KisP, we have a damned good time. Stop being so serious, life is too short.

Sondra won. She deserved it.

One day in the future, you will look back at this post and see how truly pathetic and petty it makes you look, and then, you will be ashamed.

Good. Because you should be.

I find myself continually puzzled that there are people with such egos that must continually be nursed when they discover even for a moment that they are not chosen prom queen, quarterback, new VP or whatever. It appears to me you take yourself so seriously that at a time when so much is on the line we should all be working together, you need to take a moment to make the world all about you. Sorry Counselor-somebody just went right past you not only with a more successful blog that is designed for and LOVED by so many of the troops, you got passed up by somebody that is there for them to a man. That even includes my own son that is in the Navy that Sondra stays in contact with just as she has helped so many. Your picture tinted in blue does little to hide a bad attitude.

Ann Althouse said...

Oh, I guess somebody linked....

Eh, it's my sense of humor. You either appreciate it or you don't. It really doesn't matter to me.
