"Independent" would've been better, but, yes.

And CONGRATULATIONS.

How about Best D*mned Blog, Period?

Congrats!

In whose opinion???

Congratulations, Blogress Diva. Rock on!

I'm Full of Soup said...

Perhaps could be under "INDIVIDUAL BLOG"? Keep up the yeoman's work Ann- and thanks for all the entertainment you provide.

Laura Reynolds said...

Yes right place. Congrats

Jacob said...

Any thoughts on the slightly meaner award Brad DeLong nominated you for?

Paul Dirks said...

Its hard to get proper labelling straight anymore. I'm a liberal except when I'm a libertarian and I'm never conservative except when I'm a libertarian.

So are you a "centrist"? That's probably about right.

Anonymous said...

What? No category for "brown shirts"?

I would have put you in the "Best Blog" category.

Joseph said...

No offense. I like your blog. But that's a really lame category to be nominated for. Who wants to win the most-centrist-of-them-all prize? And somehow I have trouble imagining you being very enthusiastic about the title... but I could be wrong.

Joseph said...

I mean, thinking of that conservative blog diva contest, I wasn't sure if you were really the diva-est blogger out there (or especially conservative), but at least that's a fun title to have.

Charles Giacometti said...

Since they don't have a "Batshit Crazy and Intellectually Lightweight Professors" category, they had to make due with "Centrist."

Or, how about another category for the likes of Althouse and Instarube, "Professors Who Live Off the Public Tit and Blog Instead of Work at Their Jobs"?

Well, you asked.

Ann Althouse said...

Duh, yeah, Charles, I'll make "due" with it.

Joseph: To be fair, it's "best centrist," not "most centrist." But I'd rather be in best overall or best individual, and I agree with Jonathan that it's a terrible shame that I'm not in a position to go head-to-head with my nemeses Glenn G and Andrew S.

And Jacob, guys like Brad fall into the category of No Such Thing As Bad Publicity. They are promoting me. I love it. We're long past the point where I might have been intimidated by that sort of push-back. They are only encouraging me. Bring it on, suckers.

yes you are, and even better yet you are the only one in your category that I read everyday, so you get my vote by default.

Joseph said...

Do you really consider Andrew Sullivan a "nemesis"? I know recently you've had a spat with him and you ocassionally pick apart things you don't like about his posts, but until very recently I hadn't thought of him as your nemesis.

Charles Giacometti said...

As if on cue, to prove my point, the angry, unstable Althouse responds with, "Duh."

So let me add "Angry, Unstable, and Shrill Bloggers," with a category of two, Althouse and Malkin.

Thanks, prof!

Charles Giacometti said...

But thanks for catching my typo, Althouse (or maybe "Althouse" caught it, I am never sure which one). I am sure that allowed your little brain to dismiss the larger point of your shallowness and keep your pathetic ego intact long enough for you to finish the next glass of wine.

Tibore said...

Damn, Charles... you're a jerk.

Anonymous said...

I would've put you in best individual blog, but best centrist blog is great too. Between this, the crossword puzzle, and the Day by Day comic: Congrats!

Anonymous said...

I think Charles has a crush on Ann.

Joseph said...

In case I wasn't clear... I really did not mean offense at criticizing the "centrist" nomination. I read this blog as regularly as any and comment here more than anywhere. I'd nominate you under individual.

Says a guy who writes comments on one of those blogs instead of working. So whose tit do you suckle from, Chas? Probably none; no self-respecting employer (or woman) would bare their breast to you.

Ann Althouse said...

If I were making nominations for best commenters ever...

Thanks, you guys.

Charles Giacometti said...

Freeman, thanks for the giggle. Actually, I had a crush on you when I saw your pic, but then I read your blog and the crush was gone.

Palladian, I looked at your Web site, which is one long tribute to your lack of accomplishment, so it is no surprise that you would project your shame onto me and suggest I struggle with my work. Fear not, old man, I am gainfully employed in the private sector and do quite well thank you. I am the type of taxpayer, though, who wants state employees to actually work, hence my nomination for Althouse and Instarube.

Palladian said...

I'd look at your website, Chas, but- surprise! - like the bottom-feeding turd that you are, you're anonymous! Anyway, keep spending your valuable private-sector time writing troll comments on weblogs. I'd defend myself against your insults but that would be like defending your character to a stray dog that occasionally shits on your porch. Why bother?

Palladian said...

Oh, and Alberto Giacometti wants his picture back.

Well, she's not a Democrat, not (yet) a Republican, so really, by default, that makes someone either apathetic (if they aren't engaged with political events) or a centrist (if they are), doesn't it?

Anonymous said...

I posted my congrats over on the black album, er, blog. Does that count or do I have to post it here as well? I'm so confused.

Either way, congrats. The people have spoken and that's no bad thing.

Anonymous said...

Congratulations! But I thought this was a military blog.

Charles Giacometti said: "I am gainfully employed in the private sector and do quite well thank you."

Thanks for sharing!

Yes, you're in the right group politically, and congrats, but I think you're more of a general culture blogger.

But you also have a better community than KOS, for crying out loud!

And what's with no links in the listing?

Anonymous said...

I found the best community listings to be... surprising. Perhaps size was the determining factor.

... I read your blog and the crush was gone.

You didn't like the new Bond film? Ah well, que sera sera.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, that should have read "some of the best community listings".

Three of my nominees made it to the finals - InstaPundit, Althouse, and Rantings of a Sandmonkey - so I'm not complaining. But I'm astonishing that my nominee for Best European Blog - www.johannorberg.net - wasn't deemed better than the Hugo Chavez/Fidel Castro loving Bella Ciao.

Which puts all the awards in question.

astonishing=astonished

The "brown shirts" remark was poking fun at whoever it is that comes on here and calls us all brown shirts. His name escapes me (it really does).

hi mike. i tend to use the term on a few of the more rabid participants on here.

this entire thread makes me think of the politically correct little league team where they handed out 15 MVP awards at the end of the season and all the parents congratulated themselves.
