Congratulations. Has he played with Tiger Woods?
Congrats! That's really cool.I used to want to play golf professionally, but I wasn't very good.
Dave: Actually, he has. He's on the Nationwide Tour this year, but he's been on the PGA Tour in the past. I was a spectator (back in my pre-blogging days) when he was in the top three for the final round and played with Tiger Woods.
"Corporate History""A RETAILING LEGEND IS BORN" "More than one hundred years ago, Sebastian Spering Kresge opened a modest five-and-dime store in downtown Detroit...and changed the entire landscape of retailing. The store that Kresge built has evolved into an empire of more than 1,500 stores and an Internet presence that reaches millions of customers. The Kmart name has become a symbol of Americana, standing for quality products at low prices. When Kresge opened his first store in 1899, he sold everything for 5 and 10 cents. The low prices appealed to shoppers and allowed him to expand to 85 stores in 1912, with annual sales of more than $10 million."----from www.kmart.comWow, who knew that Ann is a descendent from one of America's most prolific retail scions!
Maxine: Kresge is my sister's husband's family name. But, yeah, Kresge is the K in KMart. There used to be stores called Kresge's, just like Woolworth's.
This is funny, my neighbor across the street from me is the grandaughter of Kresge who started the chain. congrats on his victory, I rarely break 100.
Doug: You must live on a nice street.
My parents used to have a neighbor who was on the PGA Tour for a time. One Christmas when I was visiting, Mom and Dad were looking after his house when he and his family were away. After bringing their papers in one day, Dad called me over for a second so that I could see their garage--it was filled almost wall-to-wall with golf clubs. I've never seen so many clubs in my life; I guess the sponsors were good to him.
Ann, LOL, my street is fairly nice, but it isn't nearly the high end of the area. My neighbor does have the biggest house on the block though I think the family is rather large so whatever was passed on was pretty spread out, and they gave a lot to charity.
Congratulations to your nephew. Several pro golfers hail from where I live and it's a popular sport in our area. Golf today requires talent and athleticism to be competitive. I'm sure your family is proud of his accomplishments.
Kresge's .. was the name of a 5+10 here in Philly when I was a kid in the 50's and 60's. Now I know (thanks Maxine) it spawned K-mart. We also have a newer chain called Five Below which is a little different but has the candy and inexpensive toys/ gag stuff. Everything is $5 or less.
http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=2601691According to the story, your nephew will be back on the PGA Tour next season.Kresge hit his approach shot from left rough to 20 feet and two-putted for the victory to lock up a spot on the 2007 PGA Tour. Barnes sent his approach over the green, chipped to 5 feet and missed his par try."You never like to win like that, you always want to make one to win," said Kresge, 3-0 in playoffs on the Nationwide Tour. "Honestly, though, we'll all take them any way we can get them."The 37-year-old Kresge, also the tour's 2002 Virginia Beach Open and Hershey Open winner, earned $81,000 to jump from 12th to second on the money list with $294,261. The top 20 at the end of the season will earn PGA Tour cards.Wish him congratulations on behalf of the blogosphere.
