Bellflower.
These are the tall bellflowers — Campanula americana, AKA American bellflower — that are native here. Not to be confused with the creeping bellflower — Campanula rapunculoides AKA European bellflower — that we fight and that our government tells us to fight. Those things are short, 1 to 3 feet tall. The tall bellflower are 3-6 feet tall. Perhaps you can tell from the camera angle.

Sunrise.
Write about whatever you like... except the soccer game and Graham Platner. Scroll down to the previous posts to talk about the soccer game, including Trump's phone call, and scroll down one more to say whatever needs to be said about the oysterman.

It's mid-May, the 15th, and we see deep red columbine.
Back home, it's time once again to move the avocado tree back out onto the deck. That's a big production, and I played only a small role in the process, but it was a bit more than just taking this picture:

"Porcupines used to be confined to the forests but with deforestation, they’ve moved out into saffron farms looking for food."
"Saffron corms are highly nutritious and porcupines love them. Since they destroy the crop at night, farmers can’t do a thing."
Said Mir Hasan Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, quoted in "How porcupine ‘terror’ is devastating Kashmir’s saffron harvest/Authorities have set up a ‘situation room’ in the quest to stop the rodents raiding crops of ‘red gold’ , devastating farmers’ livelihoods" (London Times).

In the UW Arboretum...
... there were some blossoming magnolias...
... but mostly the trees were bare.
We kept stopping at benches and catching up on our reading. Have you forgotten the pleasure of reading outdoors?
... but mostly the trees were bare.
We kept stopping at benches and catching up on our reading. Have you forgotten the pleasure of reading outdoors? And don't be telling me those aren't magnolias. This comes up every year. I looked back to last year. It was precisely the same day that we went to the arb — April 13th: "These are our magnolias. You don't need to tell me that your magnolias look different or that only your magnolias deserve the name magnolias. These are magnolias."
