Okay.* I know... words have meaning. And Justice Scalia is the man to tell us what that meaning is.
_________
* I know Justice Scalia spells "okay" "OK," okay? But I don't. Example:
Unlike a clear constitutional holding that racial preferences in state educational institutions are impermissible, or even a clear anticonstitutional holding that racial preferences in state educational institutions are OK, today’s Grutter-Gratz split double header seems perversely designed to prolong the controversy and the litigation.Ah... notice the baseball. There's baseball in the above-linked article too. Asked by his Chicago audience "White Sox or Cubs?," Scalia said "Yankees."
६७ टिप्पण्या:
Tomato pie.
Indians.
So much admiration for the Justice, out the window. Yankees, really?
The etymology of "OK" is pretty interesting. Link.
This is too much. I am stopping at the store and getting a large all the way pizza on the way home.
The salt will just have to be skipped somewhere else.

That, friends, is a sentence to diagram.
The OK corrall was not okay.
The man knows his pizza.
What you get anywhere other than the East Coast isn't pizza.
And sometimes it's more like cake.
The Chicago pie is a total parvenu.
After watching "Man vs Food" I am totally on a hunger quest for Sicilian pizza! Since there are none where I live, I'm gonna make my own!
"Tomato pie" is a North Jersey thing, if I recall correctly.
Asked by his Chicago audience "White Sox or Cubs?," Scalia said "Yankees."
I hope Trooper York got a smile out of that.
I'm fine with okay. But I don't agree with Scalia in terms of what is pizza. And, what isn't pizza.
When my son was young. And, he always came back from school with friends. And, they were hungry. I taught them about "toaster oven" pizza made with English muffins.
It was pizza! It had bottled tomato sauce on it. And, fresh slices of mozzarella cheese.
It was yummy, too.
Scalia should stick with the US Constitution. Which, like pizza, can be interpreted in as many ways as you can stretch dough.
(I think we "rolled" the English muffins flat, too.) Which involves the kids ... in preparing their own pizza.
Carol Herman - I can tell you for a fact that I also made those home-made English muffin "pizzas" 20 years ago and I enjoyed the hell out of them.
And, then there's Oh, Kay! For women named Kate who never got tamed.
Take it from an Infantryman, (comma) you can make pizza from the ingredience of C- (dash) rations.
I used to think of it as a Chicago corn-meal lasagna, but tomato pie works better. Thanks Justice Scalia!
ingredience = ingredients (sp)...
That's ridiculous and wrong. Pizza is not an Neapolitan/Italian invention. Greeks had it long before and called it πίτα or pita, meaning pie. Tomatoes are not Italian in origin either, but native to the Americas as is 3/5 of the world's food. Pizza is no more Neapolitan/Italian than apple pie is American.
Back in parochial school we had 'pepperoni pizza puffs' which were essentially hamburger rolls (ingredients went on the cut side) or similar with sauce, mozzarella and sliced pepperoni, lovingly baked in the oven by a pleasingly plump polish woman.
God bless Mrs. Lipczynski.
Her spaghetti was top notch, too, with meat sauce that was to die for. 2 large thick-cut pieces of fresh baked bread and pats of butter.
God I'm hungry.
Don't said...
God I'm hungry.
You're missing a comma. I think.

Philly, too.
There is a special place in Hell for those who call an english muffin w/ Ragu on it, pizza. I agree w/ the Justices' latter assertion as to what is pizza, but I really don't like deep dish..too much carb and too loaded.
Pizza needs to be as described by Scalia cooked in an 800 degree brick oven w/ just a little sauce and a little or no mozzarella. In real pizza shops mozzarella is not automatic, and when you add it as a topping it's not 5 lbs of cheese like you Cheeseheads like.
Scalia grew up in NY. Of course he's a Yankee fan.
Carol Herman, you can teach kids how to make real pizza w/ pizza dough. I was taught, as were my kids. Obviously you were a shitty mother in the cooking dept. Hopefully you were better in other areas.

Hmmm, I think you are right...they can be critical.
For instance, the following example:
Let's eat, Mom!
or
Let's eat Mom.
Pizza fritta is a delicious variation. It is circular pieces of pizza dough, fried in olive oil, then topped w/ tomato sauce and parmesan. You eat it w/ your fingers. My Uncle Dom ran the family restaurant and had a wagon he would take to fairs, church events, etc. He made a killing selling those simple but delicious pizza fritta!
Finally, a topic Don Scalia's actually qualified to speak on
(note Byro the queer-stoner sockpup, projecting again..grazi for more evidence)

Apple cobbler is the only deep dish I crave.
I have refused to watch or attend baseball games since the 1994-1995 ML player's stike which led to the steriods and taxpayer-financed ballparks in order to bring back the fans.
I don't understand Scalia's reference to Oklahoma. Do they have good, thin-crust pizza in Oklahoma?
Allen, J is simply hungry for some positive reinforcement...his default hostility and poor grasp of common english indicate poor breeding.
Pity.

have to agree with Scalia.
Pizza is cooked on a stone in an oven as hot as you can get it. at least 550
less sauce is better. not too much topping...
good pizza is measured by the crust, hard and crisp on the bottom.
I haven't found a pizza of any type that I don't like...but I do have a hankering for a Lou Malnati's Deep Dish PIZZA...sausage with extra tomatoes.
Or a Glass Nickel Cardiac Arrest.
When it comes to pizza, I am in full agreement with Scalia.
Back in parochial school we had 'pepperoni pizza puffs' which were essentially hamburger rolls (ingredients went on the cut side) or similar with sauce, mozzarella and sliced pepperoni, lovingly baked in the oven by a pleasingly plump polish woman.
Hell yes, but not parochial school. This was public school in Western PA.
Don't Tread — you are a fellow Indians fan? Whereabouts are you from?
Love him.
He's the best.
So real.
I will only eat neo pizzas. Just cheese. That is the test of a real pizza.
Gotta go with Scalia on this.
* aged dough
* mozzarella di bufala.
1. plain
2. sausage
3. peperonata
4. mushroom

Yep, long-sufferin' Tribe fan from way back. My pop's one too. the 90's were a good ride but obviously times changed.
Saw many a game in the old Municipal, Browns games too. Originally from Erie and now in the 'Buff'.
What town in Western PA EM?
I like my pizza crust thin and crisp, almost like a cracker. Lite sauce, medium cheese. Roma tomatoes, onions, bacon, mushrooms...
I spell it okay unless I am texting. Then I ok. If I'm texting my husband, I use ko. Just a thing we have.

What the heck is Scalia talking about?
Has he ever been in Italy?
Pizze in Napoli are thick.
When the Neapolitani visit Rome
they call their thin pizza 'Sola da Scarpe'
i.e. 'sole of a shoe'
J, as is often said in these parts, 'UP YOUR GIGGY'.
Wow Linky links from occultist queer "Don't Tread". Maybe tell the smurfhouse about BendaPens, Byro the bunko artiste--or.."Subluxation". Byro Bendapen! (actually under investigation from state of CA). Buh bye, swine

Pizza Friday at work today.
Little Caesar’s cheese and pepperoni , freshly made and ready to pick up without ordering in advance. Everyone chips in 2 bucks, multi pies.
Whoot.Better than chucky cheese. It’s all about group feed and enjoying the company. It’s not very good but the company is awesome. If no one chokes to death from laughing we’re ready for the weekend.
chip ahoy..visited your site. Will you marry me. I'll die soon from that great food, so it won't be a long term thing.
No Byro you shut the fuck up already, sac pedo with dozens of phony names. We're coming to get yr gear, white trash. Got that Mammy Babs?
No anger mgmt Joejoe Chandala. Ending the Althouse gang. Lots of people interested in that. Maybe look at Mueller's report ofAGW first, dreck
Scalia is an Italian name dating from about the year 300. There is a coat of arms. You can buy a Scalia coat of arms baseball cap. http://www.houseofnames.com/product/Coat+of+Arms%2C+Family+Crest+Ball+Cap
I agree with Scalia on pizza, and with Prof. Althouse on okay.
Totally agree with him. I was in Chicago this past winter and got a pizza to go at a place highly regarded just off of Wabash. It was a goofy bowl of tomato sauce. Deep dish pizza is deep dish tomato sauce.
"got a pizza to go at a place highly regarded just off of Wabash."
Well known and highly regarded are not the same. Don't give up yet on deep dish.
So let me get this straight.
University of Wisconsin Law School implements and maintains a patently racist admissions standards as long as the SCOTUS says it is acceptable and you're as happy as a clam.
But on the spelling of OK vs okay you choose to disagree with a SCOTUS Justice?
Does that not strike you as a bit odd?
Living in New Jersey:
1. Cow milk found in 25% of Italy’s buffalo mozzarella
2. Pizza stones? Unwieldy single purpose kitchen items that are a pain to have in the oven and an even bigger pain to have anywhere else.
Pizza recipe from Molto Gusto
...
Seriously. Making homemade pizza is very very simple. You can go for the full authentic or just use the ingredients available at home. The key is to use a cast iron pan of at least 10"-12" in size. 14" is better because the same level of work is required for a 14" pie as a 10" one.
Otherwise use Pomo brand tomato puree in the shelf stable carton if you can because most of the flavor you're going to get from a slice of pizza comes from the sauce.
Born in Sharon. Lovely place if you don't enjoy life.
A post that's total Trooper bait, and no TY.
Did the Yanks' loss to Detroit kill him?
Spelling okay as OK is the AP style. It doesn't really indicate Scalia's opinion, I wouldn't think
