The leaves which were once all boring green
Are now yellow and red;
But I can't hang around, gotta hurry home
And see the cat is fed.

I was twenty-one years when I wrote this song
I'm twenty-two now but I won't be for long
Time hurries on
And the leaves that are green turn to brown
And they wither in the wind
And they crumble in your hand

Once my heart was filled with the love of a girl
I held her close but she faded in the night
Like a poem I meant to write
And the leaves that are green turn to brown
And they wither in the wind
And they crumble in your hand

I threw a pebble in a brook
And watched the ripple run away
And they never made a sound
And the leaves that are green turn to brown
And they wither in the wind
And they crumble in your hand

Hello, hello, hello, hello
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
That's all there is
And the leaves that are green turn to brown
And they wither in the wind
And they crumble in your hand

The UW—Madison is premiering a new ad at tomorrow's football game against Michigan State.

It's about . . . Change!

"Change. At the University of Wisconsin—Madison, it's everyone's major."

One thing the producers changed was their history of Frank Lloyd Wright's education. The ad shows lettering that reads, "Frank Lloyd Wright (Class of 1890)—Architect."

Wright attended classes at the UW on a part-time basis for two semesters. He studied civil engineering—there was no architecture major. Then he dropped out. He never graduated. He got an honorary doctorate in 1955.

Beautiful! Pathways with trees or flowers framing them are one of my favorite things.

Does this thread require poetry?

I like this one:

"Leaves are falling all around, It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged for such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go. The autumn moon lights my way."

Thought this was funny. Koch Bros give money to climate change skeptics to study climate change. What did they find?

In the press release announcing the results, Muller said, "Our biggest surprise was that the new results agreed so closely with the warming values published previously by other teams in the US and the UK." In other words, climate scientists know what they're doing after all.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Garage...Nice try. The press releases lie. All the report says is that there had been warming since 1950.

No attribution of cause was made.

Hint: it's the number of sunspots minimum or maximum causing more or less clouds.

Be free. Drive a Fiskar at 20 mpg, Eat meat and cool your home in summer. We are totally free of the Great Man Made Warming Hoax.

In crystal reveries,
I passed between a fixed white line of trees.

No, don't hurry. Life's too short.

Stay a minute - or two - or ten - and savor.

Very nice, Madame.

Olbrich Gardens?

So all the talk that scientists manipulated, altered, and/or forced data to fit preconceived theories was false? We're making progress here!

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

garage ...you are smooth-- the warming has been steady since the early 1800s.

UNTIL, 2001 when the temps leveled off, and then went sharply negative since 2009 when sunspots disappeared and sea level started to drop.

The CO2 levels have gone up sharply every year after 1990.

Come on man. Is it the hidden heat?

I generate my own heat in the bedroom, know what I'm sayin? How's that working out for you, Seventies Droop? Not so hot huh?

Interesting. I'm a huge Wright fan but never did get straight what schooling he'd had before going to work for Sullivan.

Think about it. A couple semesters of basic engineering and you could become one of the world's premiere architects. Now, those were the days.

Toad Trend म्हणाले...

First thing we'd climb a tree
And maybe then we'd talk
Or sit silently
And listen to our thoughts
Illusions of someday
Casting a golden light
No dress rehearsal
This is our life

And that's when the hornet stung me
And I had a feverish dream
With revenge and doubt
Tonight we smoke them out

You are ahead by a century
You are ahead by a century
You are ahead by a century

Stare in the morning shroud
And then the day began
I tilted your cloud
You tilted my hand
Rain falls in real time
Rain fell through the night
No dress rehearsals this is our life

And that's when the hornet stung me
And I had a serious dream
With revenge and doubt
Tonight we smoke them out

You are ahead by a century
You are ahead by a century
You are ahead by a century

You are ahead by a century
You are ahead by a century
You are ahead by a century

And disappointing you's getting me down

So far the October 21 (formerly May 21) end of the world is a bust.

You mean that since the Little Ice Age that ended in the early 1800's things have been getting warmer.....almost as warm as the Medieval Warming Period that preceded it.....do tell!!!

Things get warmer and then colder and then warmer and have bee doing it for millions of years...Wow!!!

If it didn't get colder and we didn't have shorter days and longer nights....we would miss all the beautiful autumn color.

Sarah from VA म्हणाले...

Beautiful shot. We have those plants around the bridge near my house, as well, but the fall colors in upstate NY are somewhat lacking this year. More of them seem to be turning straight to brown.

Any of the many horticultural experts round these parts mind telling me what they are? I'd really like being able to put a name to them.

Irene म्हणाले...

Sea Urchin, I think that's Sumac.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Sumac? Down here in Central Texas we don't get a lot of fall color, but the earliest color - and perhaps the best - is the Flame Sumac tree. (Dashes included for our gracious host.)

Yes, garage. Integrity is funny.

Must be quite a blow to find out that the bad-guys are honest.

Definitely something to think about don't you think?

It's beautiful! I'm jealous of people who live in areas with gorgeous fall colors. I have to drive to the mountains for any color, and I sadly missed the peak weekends this year. Last year's were spectacular. I found a little color this year by driving south, and was pleasantly surprised to find snow! So there were evergreens and turning aspens and snow. Here are some pictures of it.
