"They expected him to close the border, but bristled at what they saw as heavy-handed arrests of people living in the country for years. They rebelled against the tariffs that increased costs for consumers. The way Mr. Trump spent his last day before the election proved to be a metaphor for how out of sync his political instincts were with the season. Instead of emphasizing plans to address the cost of living worries weighing on many voters, he delivered his final pre-election address at the Reflecting Pool, talking about algae and pipes."
Writes Peter Baker, in "Angry Voters Usher in Beginning of the End to the Trump Era/The electoral backlash extended even into deep red states and indicated that President Trump has lost his hold over the coalition that lifted him to the White House twice" (NYT).

Start stupid wars win stupid prizes. Voted for democrats for the first time.
I voted like Trump was on the ballot, straight D. I am so over Trump’s delusional ego. Fuck him this is all on him and the republicans know it.
Trump and the GOP took one hell of a beating. I’m a Trump supporter. The beating was intended for him.
Life goes on. I’m tired of social media hysteria and doomsterism. I’m going to enjoy my day and get ready to play for this weekend’s services. It will be Advent and Christmas soon and I’ll have a full slate of concerts and services. I’ve survived cancer. Thank you God, for another day.
The teachers union(s), after decades of sowing seeds of socialism, are seeing the fruits of their efforts.
Trump is 80. He’s going to enjoy his last two years as president.
The debt will collapse the country after the last Boomer fies
The other interesting aspect of this election is what do moderate democrats do in the face of the DSA momentum.
Medicare for all? It’s a death sentence for aging baby boomers. Your healthcare needs will be the last ones served.
I understand the general voter sentiment re fuel, prices and the war-lite. I don’t understand voting for a few of the dem winners who seem downright clueless or inept to serve in the roles they won. Example Jackson in Maine, Acton in Ohio. I mean, if you want something fixed, do you hire any someone off the street?
The U.S. economy from 1946-1970 was an anomaly. Unless we were going to bomb industrial powers every quarter of a century it wasn’t going to continue.
Meanwhile The Great Society assumed blue skies forever. Since 1969, the debt has taken off.
Soon we will have Medicaid for All. It will be Christian Science medicine.
Texas can now pass a state income tax to pay for Free Stuff.
“The other interesting aspect of this election is what do moderate democrats do in the face of the DSA momentum.“
While the DSA momentum is real, it appears the Dems in the House have enough votes available where they can ignore the DSA bloc when necessary. Whether they do or not is tbd.
The migration to TX comes to a screeching halt.
Trump will veto all the DSA stuff. Hakeem Jeffries has no power.
It's going to be interesting to see how badly the Democrats fuck up the economy.
Never in my life have I been hoodwinked.
Bamboozled, snookered, hornswoggled, and flimflammed, yes.
But hoodwinked, never.
I hope El Sayed is a nasty pain in the butt for Schumer et al. I mean like a raging uncontrollable boil. Every day all day.
Schumer is finished.
Trump supported John Cornyn, so the comments about Abbott being a RINO are nonsense. For many conservatives, Abbott showed his true colors during Covid, when he went after businesses that dared stay open. Trump did little better, which was he lost then.
Well, we're fucked. Might have to move to south america, but then again, now that dems are back in control, they will start up USAID again, and start putting commies into office again down there. I'm afraid there's no where to go.

If the House Republicans were worth a crap they would have won today.
Both the House and Senate Republicans have made it abundantly clear they are completely worthless and Trump is on his own.
There are still way too many Romney/Bush types in elected positions.
Some good advice from a guy on social media I don’t know or follow, Max Lugavere:
“Normalize not being angry all the time. Normalize not performing outrage over every headline. Normalize recognizing that we’re living in one of the safest, healthiest, and most prosperous periods in human history.”
On of the better comments on this post:
“You aren’t required to have an opinion on everything.”
Chris, white people should move to the Balkans, not South America.
You guys were so proud of Trump being the ultimate troll.

The GOP have no one to blame but themselves. They've been acting like the Tories in the UK for decades.
Trump is despised by 65% of American voters. Maybe holding rallies where the big story was Trump talking about some guys ass was a mistake.
Here in Georgia the Democrats framed every race down to county commissioner as a referendum on Trump.
What MAGA continuously fails to realize is that the things they love about Trump the rest of America finds abhorrent.
The seeds for this defeat were sewn “Liberation Day” when Trump unilaterally decided to react to the country’s general fear of high prices by making every American poorer.
Georgia is a joke of a state. Atlanta is one of the worst cities in the U.S.
I said a new Gulf War was a bad idea. It appears I was correct, in more ways than one.

You enjoy it. We will wait to see how they bring down prices, like they claim they will.
Give Trump credit. He got shot and got up.
Every presidential candidate should have to go through that
Wendybar, given how you guys have been bragging about the Trump economy, all those jobs you said the tarrifs would bring back, and how great things have been going for everyone it should be a piece of cake.
Unless all those claims of yours were lies, of course.
I guess we will see if you were telling the truth.
Every political career ends in failure. It is an iron law,but it doesn't mean that history will judge Trump to be a failure. Thatcher and Churchill were both judged failures and thrown out of office. I am disappointed that American voters could be so stupid, but not surprised. I'm also not despondent about it because unlike most Democrats, politics is not the center of my life.
"Every presidential candidate should have to go through that"
I envision a future where that could indeed be normal.
Of course Trump is the ultimate troll and we’re glad he is. It brings us joy.
If you think Trump is bad, wait 'til you get a load of this bushel of leftists.
Trump's handcuffs are off now. He is 80, but he is still a feisty bastard. And he is in his best place when entangled in fights. He will run the Democrats ragged as they, in turn, exhaust he and his team through investigations, interrogations, accusations, and infiltrations (leaks).
The winners today are the media. The American people are in for a f*****g.
American politics is now a contest to see who can attract the idiots. You've got the left who reliably vote that way, and you you've got the right who vote accordingly. Then you've got a REALLY big pool of very stupid and easily swayed idiots. Trumps superpower was to espouse good ideas while also drawing in the crucial idiot voting block. It was an ugly thing to watch, but it worked really well for a while. The idiots are impossible to satisfy for long because they can't think past next week. Now the idiots have jumped ship to the populous left / DSA. Another name for them is Bernie Bros. We are in thrall to morons because they are the swing voters.

In his opinion. The NYT politics reporter, now getting to give his opinion officially, instead of surreptitiously.
A "Trump Era" does not require having DJT in the White House. But consider the source. Why let facts get in the way when there is propaganda and a "revolution" to be served.

Better 2026 than 2028
The upside is Clay and Buck eating crow with their endless optimistic vote interviews and predictions. C&B comes on every day as a relic of recording Rush every day automatically though I can rarely stand to listen to them.
Maybe they'll go back to their told-you-so riff on COVID rules and vaccines, even though they're wrong in detail. That went on for years and occasionally still goes on.
My own suspicion is that the no-abortion states got voted out.
rhhardin is right- my yt feed isn't populated with any of the rightie’s online pundits this morning- one plus…
Blue State Hell
Like Clinton and Obama did, Trump will ignore the Congress in the last two years.
Congrats Democrats! Let’s see what you do with your victory.
The greatness of America is everybody gets their shot.
This from a Trump supporter.
It was a good night for the Democrats, who are joyous. There is also joy in Beijing, Moscow, Teheran, Gaza, Brussels, Ottawa, Mexico City and every other place where the exercise of American power is opposed. It was a bad night for America.
The fecklessness of the Republican Congress and their failure to work more with President Trump to accomplish his agenda with legislation is one of the things that led to this. Almost everything that Trump has accomplished was done with the stroke of a pen and can be immediately undone by his successor with another pen. I have disaffected Republican friends who stated that they were tired of voting for the lesser of two evils. Republicans underperformed their 2024 numbers across the board, even in places they still managed to win. That a far-left candidate like Angie Nixon managed to get 48% of the vote in a statewide race in Florida shows the extent of the problem.
In any case, the people have spoken, and now they will get what they voted for, good and hard. You can vote your way into collectivism, but it's very hard to vote your way out.
Ron DeSantis brings some reality
They’ve been robbing the bank for years, why get upset… right?
The Islamic take over is real, folks.
I had a pretty good general manager running my business. Not perfect, but pretty darn good. Better than any I'd had before by far. But my wife didn't like him. Wanted me to fire him and hire her brother who's mentally ill, has a criminal record and knows nothing about the business...so I did.
I hope it all works out.
You can vote your way into collectivism, but it's very hard to vote your way out.
You are just butthurt that you will not be receiving your free $5000 of other people's money.
…they’ve already said they plan to rewrite the Constitution. All it takes is a few Hawaiian judges and an allied parliamentarian. This thing could be all over, finished on a nice sounding multiple of fifty…
The American people have short attention spans and little patience. The Trump strategy in the Iran war stretched that patience to the breaking point. If you're going to fight a war, get in there, fight in and WIN IT. Instead, they had the short kinetic action, a ceasefire and then a long, slow wait for the Iranian regime to collapse, which still has not happened yet. The Iranian strategy of waiting it out and telling Americans to vote Democrat seems to have worked. Trump has two months to finish it off before the Democrat Congress is sworn in come January. He'd better not dick around.
@Driver, no, I’m concerned about the country my grandchildren will inherit. I never needed a paltry sum of money like $5000.
But the saying is “You can vote your way into socialism but you have to shoot your way out.”
@Peachy, DeSantis sees it the same way I do. Ditto a lot of clear eyed people in Trimp’s administration.

Big Mike,
Your grandkids are inheriting a country with massive debt at the local, state, and federal level.
This has been bipartisan for 60 years.
Let the good times roll until I die has been the motto of voters & politicians since 1969.
Under the blue state hell dems - our children and grandchildren will never own a home.

TRUE!
The fact that polls underestimated Democratic support by just one percentage point on average suggests pollsters got remarkably close to the mark. Apparently, the bigger polling error was underestimating the Democratic wave.
I hear leftists whine about a 3 week wait to get in to see a doctor.
LOL. Single Gov payer = you aint' seen nothing yet when it comes to waiting for care.
Saying you’re going to bring prices down is dumb. That’s called deflation, and it’s not good for the economy. Bringing inflation down makes a better goal.
I’m concerned about the country my grandchildren will inherit. I never needed a paltry sum of money like $5000.
I am too. That's why I oppose socialism regardless which party proposes it. MAGA loves socialism as long as it is served at the end of Trump's cock. You have no credibility. You are a cosplayer and a liar.
@mccullough, i’ve been told that with my heart the way it is I might get another. While I agree with you about the debt, I also note that whenever someone actually runs on fiscal responsibility they usually lose, Don’t birch about politicians — figure out how to educate voters. Or find someone who can educate voters and support that individual.
BTW, I’m clan McCullough myself.
“A "Trump Era" does not require having DJT in the White House.”
Very true. This may just be the shakedown cruise. Mid-terms are always celebrated as epochal events but usually prove to be damp squibs (hey, Newt). Hype and hysteria don’t change that.
Btw, Wikipedia article says Peter Baker flunked out of Oberlin. But then it was on to the Washington Post and then NYT; so, Affirmative Action for leftists? His virtue must be that he will play the game as directed, as hard as he can. The "analysis" is just another tool of the Nyt party line. Crapola, e.g. Give 'em hell, Donald! They secretly love it.
I imagine that Susan Collins is extra-concerned now.
One trouble with winning a majority is that your supporters include a lot of IQ less than 100 people. That accounts for a lot of idiocy on the right for the last 2 years, and presumably the swing to the left now.
The quality of clickbait has been awful on both sides for a long time now.
What DOES it take to flunk out of Oberlin?
@Driver, what does the ‘S’ stand for in DSA? You hate Trump enough to support people whose party has capitulated to the DSA? Since we’re swapping insults this morning, you must be stupid. Dems might be the enemy of your (perceived) enemy, but getting in bed with socislists is something only a whore would do.
For the record, I really am 80, I really have been a Republicsn since college, I really wss s county vice-chsirman of the Reagsn re-election committee in ‘84, and I support Fonsld Trump, for all his bullheadedness and manifest faults because he is bringing manufacturing jobs back into the US, he is getting rid of Biden’s inflation, he closed the border, he is attacking rampant frsud in our social safety net, and deporting immigrants who rape children. Which of those do you not support.
Trump had a once in a generation opportunity to shape America in a new direction. Tossing it all away was gross political malpractice.
Trump didn't have to attack Iran. this causes fuel prices to sky rocket and inflation to go outta control. But that's the only thing Trump did wrong. The real problem was the Republican Senate did zero. They didnt want to pass anything the trump voters wanted. The House Republicans were all over the map, passing good bills but then refusing to pressure the Senate to pass them.
Whats funny is the DC Republican clowns who were responsible for the blowout will blame it all on Trump. Y'see the whole problem was Trump didn't pass Amnesty and give $200 billion to the ukraine or be a "True Conservative".
𝘐𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘴 𝘨𝘰 𝘢𝘴 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥, 𝘋𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘨𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 392 𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘷𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘴. ~ Nate Silver
I can predict what will happed because the Republican Establishment doesnt care about the truth or even getting power. They just want to push policies that help Globalism and Big Business.
Remember when Romney lost? Everyone in the DC establishment said the answer to regaining power was....Amnesty! We lost because we were too populist. We needed to go for Yeb. Mittens were too much a man of the people - LOL.
“We're gonna win so much, you may even get tired of winning. And you'll say, 'Please, please. It's too much winning. We can't take it anymore, Mr. President, it's too much.'”
So he was right about that.
Anyway, the Republicans in the senate are probably having a celebration. They lost power. Thank God, they can back to talking tough, and "reaching across the aisle". No more voters demanding they support Trump or do things they promised.
McConnell was all smiles when Biden won. I'm sure Thune is all smiles today. What a burden off his shoulders. Now, he can go on some foreign junkets - promise foreigners money - and have fun!
I'm curious as to what the turnout for R voters was. Midterms are all about turnout because X percent of those who vote for the POTUS, just stay home.
In 2017, the Roy Moore lost in Alabama even though Trump had won the state 60-40. Almost 90 percent of the D's who'd voted for Hillary showed up to vote against Moore. And the percent of R's who voted for him was much lower.
If only Trump had followed the "Small Government Conservaties" and cut Social Security. He would've saved the Senate. LOL.
Paxson might have won in Texas in the Republican Committee had spent $100 million getting him elected, instead of giving it to Cornyn to fight Paxson.
“Breezy said..
I hope El Sayed is a nasty pain in the butt for Schumer et al.”
Secular Jew Schumer may find it a challenge to hold on to power with the election of so many open antisemites to his caucus. I would wager good money that he is in for the toughest fight of his political career.
And on our side Do-nothing hune absolutely has to go.
Trump backed off on Doge, on MAHA stuff, on deportations, on election integrity, on accountability for abuses of power, all of which he campaigned on and he gradually bled MAGA and independent support in doing so.
Then he failed to adequately explain/defend/sell his decision to go to war against Iran when he did. The war decision was damaging, but it wouldn't have been nearly so bad if he'd been able to follow through on the other critical issues.
Trump brought down prices and started no new wars. Checkmate.
The irony is that when Democrats are in power the moderately well off to financially very well, and those at the bottom...stay at the bottom, and are often worse off.
Trump's handpicked candidates:
☑️ Darlene Graham
☑️ Ken "Dubai" Paxton
☑️ Dr. Oz!
☑️ Hershel "I swear I didn't pay for that abortion" Walker
☑️ Roy "Kiddy-Fucker" Moore
Yikes! People are saying Trump is the worst ever at picking candidates.
How dumb do you have to be to think Darlene Graham or Ken Paxton had a shot? Lotsa dummies around here. Darlene is semi-retard. Talk about "low IQ." And Paxton was one of the most heinous and corrupt politicians I have ever seen.
South Carolina and Texas should have been lay ups. Trump is very, very bad at getting candidates elected. He loves to brag about primary wins only to watch his favored candidates get blown the fuck out in the general. It's hilarious.
Only the Best People was one of the biggest cons set forth on the uneducated that were so LOVED! You pick the worst possible and then you blame them not yourself for picking them. Delusional :(
stlcdr
Wait for the tax increases and the NGOs.
It was the rabbit. Althouse followed it down the hole and now we're in Wonderland.
Seriously, this is a disaster of historic proportions. This isn't your Grandfathers Democratic Party.
Blame Trump? No, blame us, We the People. We deserve what happens next.
Also, you Jew boys better buckle up. Rough ride ahead.
Texas is now blue; without its electoral votes a Republican cannot conceivably be elected president. So much winning.
Also, you Jew boys better buckle up. Rough ride ahead.
How so? Ossoff didn't seem to face any antisemitism. Most of you dopes didn't even Ossoff was Jewish. Well he is and he was elected Senator in the deep South without breaking a sweat.
If the GOP is going to get back into power, it will take more than baseless fear mongering. The Jews are just fine. 😘
Looks as if MARKET likes results of midterms, DOW UP 1300 where is the world will crumble market will go down like the edmund Fitzgerald ,more fear mongering usual lies. Please ,start releasing those from the pit of vipers SUZZIE, BESSETT, THE SMILING DUDE ,HEGSETH somebody has to be scapegoat
I feel that way too. I still voted Republican. Everybody I voted for lost. But that's how it usually goes here.
I feel like I did in the last Bush administration. We can see the weaknesses and faults of a politician early on but give them the benefit of the doubt and vote for them anyway. They're on probation. We expect them to restrain their baser tendencies and be better than they could be. Bush disappointed. So did Trump.
I can't stand listening to Clay Travis's voice and his endless sports anecdotes. Buck Sexton seemed like fun on Gutfeld's shows, but that was only because Gutfeld was doing all the joking.
Ossoff came from a mixed marriage and embraced his father's Jewish religion. He hadn't been working at the Israeli embassy or volunteering to help the IDF, like Josh Shapiro (who was also reelected yesterday).
Yesterday, somebody here asked when the racial divisions in the country were going to heal. I don't know, but it's striking how close elections in the Deep South were this time. It isn't just white versus black now, and the Democrats who did so well may not have been old school Southern Democrats either.
Functionally, a routinely picked at scab never heals.
Hardly anything gets through Congress anymore. The filibuster stymies all significant change (that may change if Democrats hold on to their gains and win the White House in 2020). So it was a given that what Trump would be able to accomplish would have to be done on his own, without new laws from Congress. He had some marvelous successes, then some serious failures. This defeat was all Trump's.
Midterm reversals are a common phenomenon, whatever the reason. Trump wanted to do something about Iran, to rid the world of that threat. Of course there was no guarantee of success in toppling that regime, or what the Iranian people would or could do for themselves. They’re probably the most disappointed by what has happened in this election.
Personally, I’m most disappointed by the election of Xavier Becerra as governor of California — a hugely unsurprising vote for continuing corruption and decline.
“Blue tsunami” my ass. From most of the candidates to most of the voters, this was a brown wave. Case in point - WI’s new room temp IQ governor.
Makes sense, though, since everything is going to shit.
