"[I]n Thailand... Buddhism has blended with a mélange of other spiritual traditions like animism, Hindu rituals and Chinese astrology to create a strong affinity for the supernatural in contemporary life."

"'In Thailand, superstition isn’t the opposite of modernity — it lives comfortably alongside it,' said Theeranuch Pusaksrikit, a business school professor at Chulalongkorn University....  'Each hospital has their own superstition culture,' [Thanat Tantinam, a colorectal surgeon, said]. He has also heard of colleagues avoiding nuts, pizza or coffee while at work, and knows of at least one hospital where bananas — otherwise regarded as a lucky food — are taboo.... But few medical superstitions have been as universal and long-running as the KFC curse...."

From "Why Doctors in Thailand Fear KFC/In a country where superstitions are as imaginative as they are many, physicians have come to fear a jinx involving Kentucky Fried Chicken" (NYT).

More evidence, as if it were needed, that people are mostly very stupid indeed.

What would KFC look and smell like to a native Asian?

I can't see the byline here. Is this by any chance more Peter Baker fantasia?

That’s crazy. They probably believed Ivermectin was effective against covid, too…

The Curse of the Colonel is real. Asian people fear him and his seersucker.

Every time I'm been forced to eat at KFC (with co-workers) , I take off the skin. What sludge is on the skin is a mystery.

That is Big Raft Buddhism as opposed to Little Raft Buddhism. Unless it's the other way around. I always get the two confused.

Slavery again? I guess they grow enough rice not to have to deal with Uncle Ben, but how do they feel about Aunt Jemima?

For some reason the KFC in Australia is so much better than here. I won’t eat it in the states.

When I was in college, my lighting professor had a strict prohibition against speaking the title or quoting any lines from Shakespeare's Scottish play.

I am now convinced that RCOCEAN II has more than political misapprehensions. The skin and especially the sludge thereon is the best part of the KFC experience. Just ask South Park's Cartman. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/nf7lnjBaWD0
