"I still recall with a smile my then 6yo asking 'did they have skipping when you were a kid?'"

From "Skipping Isn’t Just for Kids. It Can Be a Great Workout. It feels like play. Here’s what fitness experts say about using the activity as a training tool" (NYT).

The Times article points us to this Andrew Huberman/Stuart McMillan video:

Another thing about skipping is, it amuses onlookers.

Hopping up and down is a great way to increase fascia strength. Much of the old school exercise routines have made a huge comeback. Weightlifting, body weight exercises and calisthenics, rope skipping, sprinting, emphasizing knees over toes, etc

Training montages often featured prize fighters jumping rope.

The scenes with hopscotch, tag, and musical chairs ended up on the cutting room floor.

My first thought was the kid was skipping school.

Hopping is resistance training and joint engagement. Skipping is a less energetic firm of exercise foreplay.

It's been a couple years since I've seen a hopscotch layout chalked on the road, and even then it was some foreign arrangement. I remember 2 then square divided in 4 by two diagonals then 2. Kids today.

There is continuous shouting and screaming at the moment at the neighbor's above-ground pool. Some guest kid has come over. You need at least two to get shouting.

A former friend of mine used to say that people needed to skip more because it was faster than walking and not as tiring as running. He tried so sell me some Amway products not long after that, which is he's former.

I suppose a goat-footed balloon-man is around somewhere.

The 12 American astronauts who landed on the moon found skipping was the way to get around, other than the Lunar Rover.

Huberman looks mental. I think he is looking at himself all the time, trying to figure out why he is so warm.

Compared to running, skipping seems effortless. I never tried it, but I wonder how far I could skip before tiring or being stopped by police.

There are a lot of different words for styles of walking, even if you omit the gay ones. I'm still laughing at Frank Bruni for incompetently titling his biography of George W. Bush Ambling into History. The correct gerund for a Texan is "Moseying".

Moseying with arms akimbo.

Coincidentally, I actually started sprinting again about 6 to 8 weeks ago. Nothing too serious, about 6 or so 80 to 120 yard sprints with walking interspersed between the sprints. I only do it 1 day a week. After the first week my butt was sore for almost an entire week, so stretching and warming up is really important.

Out West we prefer to mosey. Doesnt burn much calories but it does amuse onlookers especially if they are from back east.
