Hopping up and down is a great way to increase fascia strength. Much of the old school exercise routines have made a huge comeback. Weightlifting, body weight exercises and calisthenics, rope skipping, sprinting, emphasizing knees over toes, etc

There are a lot of different words for styles of walking, even if you omit the gay ones. I'm still laughing at Frank Bruni for incompetently titling his biography of George W. Bush Ambling into History. The correct gerund for a Texan is "Moseying".
Coincidentally, I actually started sprinting again about 6 to 8 weeks ago. Nothing too serious, about 6 or so 80 to 120 yard sprints with walking interspersed between the sprints. I only do it 1 day a week. After the first week my butt was sore for almost an entire week, so stretching and warming up is really important.

My first thought was the kid was skipping school.
Hopping is resistance training and joint engagement. Skipping is a less energetic firm of exercise foreplay.

Compared to running, skipping seems effortless. I never tried it, but I wonder how far I could skip before tiring or being stopped by police.

Out West we prefer to mosey. Doesnt burn much calories but it does amuse onlookers especially if they are from back east.
