"I would like to know exactly what the problem was, but I can’t find it in multiple news stories filled with corporate euphemisms instead of information."

A commenter over at WaPo knocks its news about news, in "Kim Godwin steps down suddenly as president of ABC News/The first Black woman to head a major network news division recently saw her role weakened, but had also signed a contract extension."

By depriving us readers of substance, WaPo encourages speculation. Stop protecting powerful people! And stop patronizing the first Black woman and all the other firsts. Spread accountability around evenly.

ABC News, which I never watch, is the home of “The View,” “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight with David Muir.” I have no idea how archaic broadcast TV like that is manufactured or what Godwin did that bothered people.

There's some information in this NY Post article from last March, "Embattled ABC News president Kim Godwin told staffers she’s ‘still in charge’ after effective demotion: sources." We're told that Godwin had created a “culture of fear” in the company. And "Godwin’s self-promotional, hands-off approach to running the Disney-owned network has empowered her coterie to 'settle scores,' a source said."

CNN has a little more info: https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/02/media/abc-news-president-hot-water-disney-conducts-review/index.html

It seems like the reason we spend too much time on our devices is that, if we’re interested, we have to spend more time finding the newsy details that should have been in an original article. Or maybe that’s the plan - all the clicks get shared.

Know Idea about this woman nor the media machine she Captained. I am quite surprised that the excuses are corporate euphemism newspeak. How dare they present a facade that is exactly the result of millennia of evolutionary survival of the cleverest backstabbing smile in your face motherfuckers.

This is the rule of the Betas, which is the he Hallmark of "Civilization" so called.

A priori odds are that she's not exceptionally talented in a position that requires exceptional talent. Best a priori odds go with white men.

Surprise surprise. Yet another DEI hire fails and tries to save face. Another leftist employs iconography and replicates the self-aggrandizement popular with 20th century Communism. No news, move along.

Google also sez "Kim Godwin joined ABC in May 2021 from CBS News, where she was an executive vice president and oversaw its diversity efforts."

Wow, another one of Iger's Didn't Earn It hires destroys a brand.

"...the Disney-owned network..."

That certainly jumps off the page. What new Disney acquisitions are in the pipeline, and what are they using for money, not the profits from Kathleen Kennedy's epic bombs, surely?

Speculating about cause and effect within the media's axis of evil is about as helpful as speculating about the fates of Zinoviev, Kamenev, Yevdokimov, and the nameless millions. Kim Godwin is digging potatoes in Siberia, so what? Maybe if she applauded Mickey for another fifteen minutes...

Just a note .. Disney has owned ABC since the mid-1990s

The View is a function of ABC News?? I don't think I've ever had to consider that possibility before.

This could probably be quickly cleared up by examining the historical trend of ratings of this news network and others, with the span starting a couple of years before Godwin's tenure.

I am once again reminded of the toxic bullet I have dodged by not watching television news.

I can't decide which image is more explanatory: her social media one wearing a shirt with the word "erasism" on it, or her on-stage appearance at a major journalism conference as a Wakanda princess flanked by Wakanda warriors.

Both images do scream "serious corporate journalism."

Still, how do you manage to be so bad at your job that you screw up a "morning network news show"?

When someone at the top is pushed out, I usually think that the people who hired them are no longer in positions of power -- so there's no downside to getting rid of a protogee. It's a bad look for power if your hires fail; it calls your judgement into question, after all.
It sounds like this particular ouster pushed out someone with no real skills at leading.

All you need to do is listen one day to the multiple lies and misinformation that David Muir, The View and Georgie Snuffalufagus spew out, to know the station is full of shit. Why anybody still trusts and believes any of these clowns is beyond me, but the older I get, the more idiotic people become.

Which is why I always thought of ABC News as a joke. The women are ignorant spew such nonsense, and it is a popular show which shows how ignorant the viewing public is. Scary as hell that they believe the crap that comes out of that show.

They are a standing joke on Gutfeld. He has a stack of pictures that he uses as the punchline to jokes. Most are other FNC people, and esp the ones he has on. But the others are The View, Joy Bayhar herself, FJB, and both Kamala and Cankles cackling. When his buddies and sidekicks host the show, they use the same stack of canned pictures, but mostly let off the FNC people. Must see the View photo at least once a night. And if one of them has said something esp idiotic, a clip of it often ends up in the opening monologue. So, in the end, they are probably more useful than tits on a boar hog. But not by much maybe…

Kim Godwin might have been the first "black" woman to head a major news organization but CBS News president Ingrid Ciprian Matthews soon followed. Mathews recently fired Catherine Herridge just days after Herridge reported on details involving David Weiss, Garland and the Hunter Biden mess. Reportedly, Matthews and Herridge clashed over her reporting of the Biden family scandal.

It seems to me that network news is like a battleship.

Once it gets going it just runs itself and takes years to turn around.

I think a reasonably smart hight schooler could do the job.

The only decisions are which unhinged leftists to put on the air tonight.

Just like the issue is never the issue, it's always the Revolution, so too with news media stories. If a story can be written in a way to flatter the Left, or undermine the classic American virtues and values that are now considered right wing fascism, it will be. Otherwise, it's "Republicans Pounce!", if they can shoehorn it into the story. If they can't even do that, you get incurious, contextless, pro forma stories like this, and you have to read them like the Soviets read Pravda. The details that are left out are more important than what's included.
