"Evelyn, half-Native American and half-Black, with curly, sandy brown hair, felt internally broken as the weight of unmet expectations..."

"... and the fear of the unknown seemed to overtake her when she accidentally became pregnant. While Evelyn struggled academically, Whiteman had degrees, a community of friends, and a supportive, boisterous Grenadian family. But after struggling to find a Black sperm donor, she would stand in the entryway of the empty guest bedroom in her newly constructed home, praying and longing for a baby. Now Evelyn and Whiteman were bound together, by a child...."

From "After abortion attempts, two women now bound by child" (WaPo)(free-access link, so you can discern the abortion and racial politics for yourself).

Background: "America has a Black sperm donor shortage. Black women are paying the price. Black men account for fewer than 2 percent of sperm donors at cryobanks. Their vials are gone in minutes."

They were in their mid-40s when they adopted Evelyn at 3 weeks old.

This is why 40 year olds should have children, either their own or adopted. By the time your child is grown, you're so old that you're in no position to support them through the struggles that come with entering adulthood.

The premise of this article is really dumb and racist too.

It is not hard to find a black sperm donor.

This is just silly.

"After abortion attempts, two women now bound by child"

This is everything that is wrong with progressivism today. There is nothing "bounding" here except they bought into the Post-Modern feelings regime push by feminists and they refuse to take responsibility for their actions at multiple levels.

I could see these people finding it difficult to get a picture ID and may indeed be too stupid to do so.

This is a great example of people who if allowed to vote will do damage to our society out of shear ignorance and stupidity.

I think it is highly likely that the principle characters in this story do not actually exist and the WAPO made this up out of whole cloth.

So a major criteria for who will raise your child is someone "ready to give the child everything".

Apparently a father in the house was a non-factor.

One story line for me was this was a woman floating through life. Things just "happened" to her. The she ran into an issue that someone else could not fix for her. Eventually she considered options and acted.

Things improved from that point forward.

Imagine that.

Maybe the newly hitched D-Lemon would contribute.
Apparently he owes the romance to Trump.
"Lemon adds that “at the end we jump over a broom.” This, Lemon and Malone say, pays respect to the once symbolic way for enslaved people in the American South to recognize their marriages, noting that today this tradition is a way to honor those who did it before them. "
<
" “We had our first date at the Polo Bar,” Malone says. “It was election night in 2016. We had gone to a viewing party downtown.”
“Isn’t that where you tipped a table over?” Lemon asks, to which Malone replies with a laugh, "Yes!"
“So, that night we went to this party at Cipriani,” Lemon continues, "and all these fancy people were there, stars, Martha Stewart. They put these plywood pieces on the table to make them bigger. And when Tim sat down, he hit the edge, and flipped the entire table. All the glassware, all the candles, everything went flying. And I was like, ‘Alright, well that’s our first date right there.' "
At that point in the evening, Malone and Lemon remember, it seemed clear Hillary Clinton was going to win. “I looked at my CNN email. I was like, ‘Let's get out of here. It's not going to be pretty,' " Lemon shares. "And so we went uptown to the Polo Bar.”
The restaurant is subterranean, "so we were sort of in a bunker,” Lemon says. He recalls being given the night off as his primetime slot had been taken over by election coverage.
“I was kind of glad because it would've been a surreal thing to watch [on camera]," he adds.
Throughout the meal, he and Malone got intermittent updates via spotty cell service and other diners. “Tim and I looked at each other and I said to him, ‘I don't want to be alone tonight.’ It was so weird. We went back to my apartment in Harlem and then he never left.”

I had two thoughts on this:

1) I wonder if I could sell mine as black market Black sperm. I could have a label put onto the frozen sealed vial. The label with a smiling Approved Black Man showing a thumbs up! And an identity marker giving the regional 'flavor' of the prize: "Alluring Aruban", "Gorgeous Ghanian" "Burly Bostonian". Something for all...er...tastes. Of course, I'm older now and production may not be what it once was. But as a start up, you have to bear down and put in that extra time.

2) Or, we could just, as a society start focusing on men being men and becoming fathers who are present. Marrying women. Women marrying men. Family structure growing again. We could try that. I mean...it actually worked for a couple thousand years or so. Until recent decades when we got so sophisticated we sophisticated ourselves right out of existence.

She got 'accidentally' pregnant? 'Yes doctor, I tripped and fell on a penis?' No - the human reproductive equipment worked as intended. That's not fitting the definition of an accident. And then we're presented with the trauma of two 'failed attempts' at abortion. But they weren't failed attempts at abortion - she timed herself out in the first case by lying to her family and trying to hide it, yeah, putting it off, that's a reasonable approach. Then she didn't follow instructions for the 'morning after' type abortion, and screwed that up by ignoring advice to follow up with a doctor.

Such hardship. So many obstacles to the easy life. So many bothersome consequences. DAMN those Conservatives and their abortion rules !

I guess the adoptive mother didn't want to be profiled. Is she a single mom now?

I think most people will read this as an anti-abortion, pro-adoption story. This young woman tried to abort her pregnancy, but is now happy to be the (non-parenting) mother of a healthy child, who is being raised by a mature mother. I was surprised the Post ran it.

effinayright म्हणाले...

Let's face it: there's no surplus for black sperm, and no real market for it, because black men are happy to deposit their stuff exactly where its supposed to deposited.

They just use their women as sexual spittoons and move on afterward.

But the wymyn are remain happy to call them "baby-daddies", even though we taxpayers are the real "breadwinners" providing their welfare checks and free services.

I mean, what if you are a low-IQ person and someone offered you this deal. Wouldn't you take it, and then demand it as your due for the rest of your life?

Randomizer म्हणाले...

That article gives the impression that Black women are inept complainers, but I think it's just the authors.

The cryobanks gave Brooks a chance at motherhood, but they couldn’t provide what she wanted: a Black sperm donor who could give her a child who looked like her and shared her culture.

Why does Brook think an anonymous sperm donor would share her culture, and why would she care? Culture isn't genetic, and the child will never meet the daddy.

Black women between the ages of 35 and 45 are far more likely to remain unmarried than women from other racial groups, according to the latest census data, with 44 percent of non-Hispanic Black women unmarried, compared with 16 percent of White women.

Whose problem is that? Not being married isn't stopping Black women from having a higher fertility rate.

If there is a demand for Black sperm, (I'm skeptical), sperm banks can charge more and pay the donors more. Problem solved, and nobody is a racist.

“The doctor was like, ‘Listen, I don’t want to be harsh, but this is on a time frame and, like, sperm is sperm,’ ” Lino recounted.

Lino may have recounted that, but does anyone believe that a doctor said that "sperm is sperm"?

It wasn't the laws that made trouble, it was wishing for a baby while being single and uncredentialed and a liberal. She ended up deeply, deeply ambivalent, first about the pregnancy, then about the abortion, then about the adoption. She could easily have gotten the early abortion by working out a date that fitted the six-week limit or the late abortion by getting in before the twenty-four week limit. All those mistakes were ambivalence. Now she seems to me to be breaking or perhaps, broken-hearted. "I have straight A's but my baby is gone. Am I living the right way?"

What has to go wrong that one week a woman regards the living, moving baby inside of her as just a thing, and the next week as she holds that child, she sees that it's not a thing, a tumor, a catastrophe--but a person?

"you can discern the abortion and racial politics for yourself"

The abortion politics: I came away from reading the article with the conclusion that the mother, or women in general, are so idiotic, irresponsible and incapable of following simple instructions there should be abortion facilities everywhere and made as easy to obtain as possible.

The racial politics: I read the article and looked at the photos of the baby being held by the adoptive mother. I assumed her issue about wanting a Black sperm donor is that she wanted a child who looks like her, at least looks like a Black person. But the baby is so much lighter she could have had a white sperm donor after all. Is that a racist thing if I notice? (Should we ask Meghan, Duchess of Sussex if noticing is racist?) It's not racist if Blacks do it?

The birth mother claims to be half African American and half American Indian, and we don't know the racial background of the birth father or accidental sperm donor, and "the average African-American genome is 73.2% African, 24% European, and 0.8% Native American,"(https://www.science.org/content/article/genetic-study-reveals-surprising-ancestry-many-americans) so the baby already potentially had a lot of white DNA. The adoptive mother is Grenadian, which is a place with a lot of racial mixtures, so a baby with her DNA and a White donor could have been at least as Black or White as the baby she adopted, without the complications. I'm being kind of clinical here because I actually found myself getting judgmental about this whole situation.

What I'm really thinking is how potentially dangerous this arrangement of emotional bonding with the birth mother could be. It isn't something I would ever do. I hope it works out. And maybe the adoptive mother doesn't mind the complications she has invited into her life.

This is obviously a Titania McGrath story not a real one - the blizzard of idiocy is too relentless for real life.

Apart from the items that have already been remarked upon, we are offered the "career woman" who is tragically unable to start a family....at 40 - who could possibly have predicted that ? And the same career woman (that would be the same one that is desperately late to the game) who absolutely cannot contemplate anything other than a black sperm donor....who adopts a half black child.

But as it's Titania, we have a happy ending. Like the Terminator, bullets can't kill this kid, nor even mifepristone :)
