Glorious day in Center Mass today. Spring is fully exploding. Cut the grass for the first time this season, the new Eco cordless mulching mower worked like a dream. The ponds are warm enough to swim without wetsuits. Martha's Vineyard bike ride this weekend.

I have noticed, when I search the Althouse Forum for past postings, I get muuuuuuch better results when I search with duckduckgo.com than with google.com, e.g. at the duckduckgo.com prompt:

Took a walk in my woods this afternoon. Walked by a black cherry tree which whispered "racist" as I neared it. I have always viewed myself as an equal opportunity tree cutter. Red oak, white oak, hard maple, it mattered not. If I needed hardwood boards, I fired up the Stihl 038 Super. However, hearing that racist accusation caused me pause. After some self-reflection, never will a black cherry or black birch tree bite the dust again. Now on to investigate tree reparations.

On HBO, I watched the first season of Perry Mason. I don't think Perry Mason is an iconic figure like Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot, but they took considerable liberties with the Perry Mason I was familiar with from the old tv series. He's far more Sam Spade than Perry Mason, Esq in this series. I like Sam Spade better than Perry Mason so that's okay with me, but it does seem a bit dishonest to make him such a different character. I never read any of the Erle Stanley Gardner books so maybe this was no more dishonest than the Raymond Burr portrayal. I don't think anyone now living has ever read an Erle Stanley Gardner mystery.
...What's the opposite of updating a character--post-dating? I think of Perry Mason as a sane and sedate lawyer of the fifties, not as a hard bitten detective of the thirties, but there it is....Crime was more noirish in the thirties. The crimes in the fifties were too bland.
