"Most voters believe it’s likely that President Joe Biden won’t finish out his term of office, and don’t think Vice President Kamala Harris is ready to step up to replace him."

"A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that only 43% of Likely U.S. Voters think Harris is qualified to assume the duties of the presidency, including 29% who think she is Very Qualified. That’s down from April, when 49% said Harris was qualified to become president. Now, 55% say Harris is not qualified to assume the duties of the presidency, including 47% who say she is Not At All Qualified.”

Meanwhile, Harris is on a trip to Singapore and Vietnam. AP reports:
A longtime district attorney and former senator, Harris is largely untested in international diplomacy and foreign policy. Her swing through Vietnam could draw unwanted comparisons between the humiliating withdrawal of U.S. troops there in 1975 and the tumultuous effort this week to evacuate Americans and allies from Afghanistan.
And it’s all happening in the shadow of China, whose growing influence worries some U.S. policymakers. “She’s walking into a hornet’s nest, both with what’s taking place in Afghanistan, but also the challenge of China that looms particularly large in Vietnam,” said Brett Bruin, who served as global engagement director during the Obama administration and was a longtime diplomat....

I feel sort of bad for Biden. I mean, he wants to do the "right thing" but, according to LLR Chuck and Left Bank and Howard, Biden is completely unable to unwind the Trump plan for evacuation and Trump's plan called for the President of the US to sit for interviews in late August of 2021 and not remember where we have troops stationed, whether or not he was ever told about needing to keep residual forces in place to provide security for the final drawdown, have no idea how many or where any Americans are hiding and to not even know if people are dying in Afghanistan!

Can you believe Trump's plan did all that to poor, poor, honest Abe-like Corn Pop poppin' Delaware football playin' Joe Biden?

Well, no wonder the democraticals are thinking its time for a switcheroo with Slow Joe. Getting rid of Slow Joe might be the only remaining option to break the Trump Plans Magic Spell that has Slow Joe trapped, TRAPPED I tellya!

Public Service Announcement: After a detailed search of many legacy media outlets across the globe, approximately ZERO of those outlets has ever used the term "Trump/Biden" plan. That was the term that some of the Althouse pro-marxist lefties were using yesterday as a feeble attempt to transfer blame from the Ice Cream Child-Groper Boy.

Considering that he fled from Camp David to Delaware, will he finish out the week?

"and don’t think Vice President Kamala Harris is ready to step up to replace him."

Considering that Dems had such a low opinion of her that she didn't make it to the first primary, why should voters in general think otherwise?

"A longtime district attorney and former senator, Harris is largely untested in international diplomacy and foreign policy"

Is she actually "tested" in anything? Besides, you know, . . .

We are 7 months into a Presidency, in one of at least 3 major crises (2 of a foreign nature), and our President is publicly MIA outside of scripted interactions and ignoring major ally urgent phone calls (Britain PM/Afghanistan).

With a VP who is also MIA and avoiding tackling issues.

This is what happens when you elect non-executive politicians.

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

I said in a previous thread (this is repeated from there):

“You are presupposing that Biden serves for four years. I find that assumption highly improbable, because even with the best medical care, he still is facing the ravages of a degenerative disease. He isn’t getting less senile as time goes on - he is getting, demonstrably, more senile as time goes on. If he were your parent, you would probably have already removed all the guns from the house, and taken his car keys away from him. You take them away because if you don’t, you will find them driving around aimlessly miles from where you expect them.”

Articles out now suggesting that the Dems are waking up to a monumental problem. They have depended on Harris’ tie breaking vote in the Senate to got any of their radical agenda enacted, or get their radical nominees confirmed. She becomes President, and this ends, until her replacement is confirmed, and that requires a Senate vote, where she would no longer provide the tie breaking vote. Several of their most radical nominees are still awaiting confirmation. But maybe more importantly, they are trying to slip another $3 Trillion in graft into their “Infrastructure” bill, through Reconciliation, trying to override state election integrity measures, such as photo ID, in order to institutionalize the voter fraud that brought them the Presidency and Senate this last election, etc. this likely ends, when Biden dies, or is replaced through the 25th Amdt. That means that they can’t afford for that to happen.

But Biden very much appears to have been sliding. He is showing more and more symptoms of progressive dementia. His tempering is shortening, and his ability to empathize has essentially gone to zero. This may be accelerating with his being forced to fake competence and normality in the face of catastrophe. He probably should be replaced as soon as possible - but politically the Democrats probably cannot afford to do so. He has 3 1/2 years until the end of his term. I doubt he makes it, even with a private physician, and Walter Reed as backup. He probably only needs to last until November of 2022, since, right now, the Dems are likely (even with enactment of HR/SB-1) maintain control of at least the House, and everyone in Congress knows that. Can he be made to continue breathing until then? The suggestion is that even that might not be sufficient to activate the 25th Amdt, installing Harris as POTUS. Would the Democrats running the WH actually pretend that he is alive, when he isn’t? They pretend that he is running the country, so why not?

And now she's off to Singapore for satay, and Ho Chi Minh City for pho. She's a well rounded international traveler and diplomat.

Truth to tell she's as ready as she's ever going to be for her potential role as President.
That was also true when she ran in the Democrat primaries in 2020--and withdrew before the first primary was held. Her problem is that she's not now, and never was, ready for prime time.

I wrote this same comment at least a couple times here at Althouse last Winter- no matter how awful Harris is, she is better than having a demented Joe Biden as President. You literally can't have a president who can't take the calls from allies in a crisis in which they have a material stake. I can tell you why Biden didn't take the calls- he literally couldn't. I think that is why he stayed at Camp David all weekend, and it is probably why he was sent to Camp David rather than Delaware last weekend- he had to be hidden in a place from which there would be minimal pressure to the White House. Just think about it- if he had been in Delaware, he couldn't have hidden out there until Monday, and going from there to Camp David in a crisis rings too many alarms.

If neither happens, then bad on the American people for allowing a political system to function in such a way that people such as these are the ones who rise to the top of both parties.

There is a solution for the Democrats. Biden "agrees" to resign. Harris becomes president. Romney agrees to break ties in favor of the administration, and in return, Harris names him to become the new VP.

Mrs. Biden might well fight tooth and nail against a "voluntary" resignation, though. This would force the unprecedented need to invoke the 25th Am., and the Democrats have laid no political groundwork for doing so. They've been consistently and vociferously defending Biden's competence, and they'd have to turn on a dime and start insisting that he's senile.

Up above looks like I relied on poor reporting to say the press conference was cancelled.

I had to check the 22nd amendment and it does refer to “acting president” as well as being president for 2 years. There’s a difference.

Where the difference comes into play is if Biden steps aside voluntarily or is involuntarily removed under the 25th. As acting President Harris could not appoint a VP. The office wouldn’t be vacant. She’s still the VP albeit acting as POTUS, and Biden is still POTUS waiting in the wings until he feels ready to resume presidential duties.

If he resigns I’m certain Mitch would agree to any Democrat senator from a state with a Republican governor being appointed as VP by Harris.

Are we sure these people 'rose to the top' or were they installed by a rope a dope from an entrenched deep state and standing, laches moot? We can blame a portion of the electorate for complacency in that case...

Not, Going. To. Happen.

It would take at least one Republican vote in the Senate. And I think that McConnell has more control than that. She is too hated by the Republicans to get confirmed by the Senate. It was her adherents who bedeviled Trump for 4 years with their Russian collaboration hoax that her campaign invented.

20 years ago the Clintons had enough power in the Dem party that they could probably pulled that off. But they have been out of power that long now, and a lot of that patronage power is probably dissipated by now. Now, if you said Michelle, I would say that she was radical and unprepared, but consider the possibility. And, her husband still very much has that sort of power. I think it likely that he probably has more power in the WH right now than anyone else.

The democraticals already own Romney. No need to barter for his vote.

My fear with a potential romney VP is that he would be much more aggressively hateful and spiteful towards republican base voters than just about any democratical.

Not quite as hateful toward republicans as McCain, but close.

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

“ Anyone who considers the Democrats' agenda or nominees "radical" is someone who rejects warm milk as a drink fit only for wild-eyed bomb-throwers.”

I probably should clarify my remarks. The Biden Administration has gotten many of their nominees confirmed. Some had some Republican votes, and some had none, depending on Harris’ tie breaking vote for confirmation. Some remain unconfirmed, and they tend to be the ones I was talking about, who likely won’t have the votes of all 50 Democrats. For example, voting for their ATF nominee will likely cause any of 4-5 Dems voting to confirm reelection. I think that their BLM nominee is in a similar situation. It doesn’t matter what the people in your NYC think of these nominees and their pasts, what matters is what their constituents think. For example there, I probably know fewer non gun owning households here in MT, than you gun owning in NYC. Not even Mark Kelly of AZ, married to Gabby Gifford, wants to be on record voting for the current ATF nominee.

As for radical legislation, let’s start with HR/SB-1, which would nationalize and federalize elections for the first time in over 230 years. Biden didn’t win by that many votes, in the swing states that swung in his direction early morning after the election (PA, MI, WI, AZ, GA, NV). In most of those cases, fairly flagrant and open fraud was seen and documented. More importantly, maybe, mail in balloting and/or photo ID laws were violated and ignored, etc. These bills would prevent states from requiring state issued photo IDs. They are required almost uniformly around the world, even in many 3rd World countries, because everyone knows that their purpose is the reduce election fraud. Again, the Dems know that forcing a vote for those bills in the Senate would require several Dem Senators to give up their reelection hopes.

Enough Republicans bought into a $1,4 Trillion Infrastructure bill to get it through the Senate. But the Democrats want to stuff another $3 Trillion of grab bag progressive wish lists into it through reconciliation, that has almost nothing to do with actual infrastructure. We can’t afford the original $1.4 Trillion, and that is likely to crash the economy and set off significant inflation. But the additional $3 Trillion? It’s almost pure pork for every imaginable Dem constituency. We are talking the federal government spending more here on massive graft than our regular yearly federal budget. It’s that massive. And these Red State Dem Senators are not going to win reelection when their constituents are mired in a recession deeper and longer than the one the Dems engineered in 2008. Sure, in NYC, rents will rebound. But these Senators represent flyover country, which tends to take the brunt of these recessions.

Keep this in mind - Pelosi and Schumer are twisting arms and blackmailing their caucus members as much as they can. There are just certain nominees that they can’t get confirmed, and certain legislation that they can’t get enacted, because Pelosi has a 3 vote margin, Schumer has none, and they have too many in their respective caucuses likely to lose if they vote their way. Those are the radical nominees and bills that I was talking about.

If Harris is Acting, instead of assuming the office of President, is she still the VP, entitled to break ties in the Senate? My guess is no. But no doubt there are many who would take the opposite side.

How long did ISIS last after Trump became President?

Who killed the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, an anti-US terror organization?

What happened to illegal immigration rates under Trump?

Median US income rose more in Trump's first 3 years, than it did under all 8 years of Obama.

We have a Covid vaccine (that the Left is desperate to force on everyone) about 4 years ahead of what anyone thought possible, solely because of the4 actions of President Trump and his Operation Warp Speed.

By the time Trump left office, the US was vaccinating over a million people a day, all thanks to Trump

Keystone XL was being build, the Russian Nord Stream pipeline wasn't, the US hadn't had a soldier die in Afghanistan in the last year, teh border was under control, and the US was a net exporter of oil.

That is what it looks like when you have a competent President who loves America.

It's not what it looks like when you have a Democrat President

As much as I hate to admit it, Trump does look competent compared to Biden. Aside from Covid (which Biden hasn't handled any better really), Trump's record is better on a number of issues. Sorry, but that's just the reality of the situation.

The interesting thing about the prospect of Romney as VP, is that he could try to torpedo Trump’s campaign from there, and the GOP establishment might back him. That might be appealing enough to the Dems to actually consider it… but probably not.
